In this episode, we shine a spotlight on insulin—an often overlooked but crucial hormone that plays a central role in metabolism and overall health. While blood sugar gets a lot of attention, insulin is the key regulator behind it, influencing energy storage, fat metabolism, and cellular function. We explore how insulin resistance develops, the early signs to watch for, and why it’s so important to address this root issue to prevent chronic disease.
We also discuss how ketogenic and low-carb diets can help regulate insulin levels, improve metabolic flexibility, and support weight management. This episode provides clear, functional insights into insulin’s role and practical strategies for balancing it through nutrition and lifestyle, making it a must-listen for anyone interested in metabolic health and disease prevention.

Often referred to as a “Goldilocks” mineral, iodine must be kept in balance—too little can lead to fatigue, thyroid dysfunction, and hormonal imbalance, while too much can exacerbate autoimmunity and disrupt delicate nutrient interplay. In this episode, we take a comprehensive look at iodine’s role in thyroid health, fertility, immune function, breast tissue, and detoxification. We unpack symptoms of both deficiency and excess, explore the connection between iodine and environmental exposures like fluoride, chlorine, and brominated flour, and discuss important considerations for those with Hashimoto’s or other autoimmune conditions.
You'll also learn how to assess iodine status through testing, the validity of iodine painting, and the risks and benefits of different supplementation approaches. We highlight topical uses—from wound care and nasal rinses to support for fibrocystic breasts—as well as dietary sources like sea vegetables and seafood. The conversation includes a breakdown of iodized salt, the iodine-selenium relationship, and how to use iodine safely and effectively in your wellness routine.

How much thought have you given to the importance of a good chew? While this may sound like a random topic, the simple act of chewing—and making sure the diet includes tough and crunchy foods—has a profound impact on our health. From digestion and metabolism to oral health, facial development, and even the way we breathe, chewing plays a foundational role. In this episode, we explore how modern diets of ultra-processed, soft foods have contributed to metabolic dysfunction, altered jaw structure, and impaired breathing patterns that can disrupt sleep and brain function.
We also dive into the surprising neurological benefits of chewing, including its role in satiety, memory, and mental health. Chewing activates the vagus nerve and stimulates the release of cholecystokinin, a hormone that supports memory, learning, and appetite regulation. It also reduces stress responses, boosting activity in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. Research even suggests that soft diets can decrease synaptic density and hippocampal cell count—key factors in cognitive performance. This episode will have you reaching for raw carrots, slow-roasted stew meat, and other chewy, nutrient-dense foods while rethinking how each meal you serve your family can support both body and brain through the power of a good chew.

While mammograms are often pushed at age 40 as the gold standard for breast health screening, many women are questioning the risk-reward ratio and seeking safer, more holistic alternatives. Could thermography be a more proactive, less harmful approach to identifying early dysfunction in the body? This episode explores the topic of thermography as a non-invasive, radiation-free tool for wellness assessment.
In this episode, we are joined by special guest Amanda Allen, owner of Austin Thermography, to break down the science, safety, and practical application of thermal imaging. We discuss how thermography differs from conventional screenings, what types of patterns it can detect—ranging from inflammation to hormonal imbalances—and how it may serve as an early warning system long before a disease manifests structurally. Whether you’re looking to support breast health, monitor chronic conditions, or simply stay in tune with your body’s signals, this episode will help you consider if thermography has a place in your wellness toolbox.
More about Amanda Allen of Austin Thermography:

Pure Collagen is sourced from pasture-raised cows and we lab test every batch to ensure there are no heavy metals including mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic. But our purity isn’t the only thing that sets our product apart from competitors, it is all about the extraction!
Pure Collagen is not just a protein powder or even just collagen peptides! Our product is made through a proprietary extraction method that produces bioactive peptides shown in research to stimulate new bone, joint cartilage tissue, and skin, hair, and nails via regenerative anti-aging effects. Our formula contains research supported patented peptides FORTIGEL, FORTIBONE, and VERISOL, 3 compounds that promote synthesis of collagen and stimulate focused cells to prevent breakdown while supporting new growth.
Fortigel supports chondrocytes for cartilage health to promote joint function and reduce joint pain.
Verisol stimulates fibroblasts to support the production of collagen for improved structure and appearance of the skin, reduction of cellulite, healthy hair growth, and anti-aging effects.
Fortibone stimulates osteoblasts to improve bone density and the body’s mineralization processes while supporting bone strength.

In this episode, we’re talking all things grassfed whey—a supplement we recommend to nearly every client for good reason. From weight loss and lean body mass to metabolic and immune health, the benefits of whey are powerful and broad spectrum. We break down what whey protein is, how it's made, and why we choose to use a whey concentrate over an isolate. We dive into the synergistic compounds found only in whey concentrates that are low heat processed like lactoferrin, CLA, and immunoglobulins—and how they go beyond muscle to support immune resilience, gut lining integrity, and even antioxidant production via glutathione synthesis.
We’re thrilled to unveil Whey Protect—our upgraded version of Naturally Nourished Grassfed Whey, now with added serum bovine immunoglobulins to further support immunity and reduce inflammation. We touch on how our formula stacks up in purity compared to mainstream brands and discuss the Clean Label Project’s recent findings on heavy metals in popular protein powders. Plus, we share our favorite ways to incorporate Whey Protect into your daily routine for optimal health!

In today’s episode of the Naturally Nourished Podcast, we’re getting up close and personal with an 8-legged creature that’s probably living on your face right now (yep, really). We’re diving into all things Demodex—a microscopic parasitic mite that lives in hair follicles and sebaceous glands, especially around the eyes. While most of us cohabitate peacefully with these tiny freeloaders, an overgrowth can trigger all kinds of skin and eye concerns, from blepharitis and ocular eczema to acne-like breakouts and rosacea flare-ups.
We’ll unpack the science behind Demodex overgrowth, how it can drive inflammation and contribute to skin conditions that often go misdiagnosed or mistreated, and what to look out for if you’re dealing with stubborn rashes or redness around the eyes, nose, or cheeks. Of course, we’ll also walk you through food-as-medicine strategies and functional tools—from supporting the microbiome to choosing the right topicals—to help get things back in balance. Tune in for the nitty gritty (literally) and leave empowered with new ways to support clear skin and resilient immune function from the inside out.
