Team Europe are victorious, and the wait goes on for Team USA as they are beaten yet again on European soil. We discuss the fallout from another disastrous performance by the US in foursomes, along with captaincy decisions from both Zach Johnson and Luke Donald. There are player ratings for all 24 players, and finally there is a view to two years time at Bethpage Black where Europe might just find themselves favourites!!
The opening ceremony has arrived, and both captains have given us our first four matchups of this Ryder Cup. Scheffler & Burns will open up against the formidable fiery pairing of Rahm & Hatton. There is no room for Spieth & Thomas in what is a hugely controversial move given their foursomes pedigree. We weigh up each match give our prediction, and even speculate what this means for the afternoon fourball session.
The big week has finally arrived, the golfing world turns its eyes onto Rome for what is set up to be an enthralling, encapsulating Ryder Cup. In the midst of all the celebration of Ludvig Aberg being selected on team Europe, there is huge amounts of anger at the omission of Adrian Meronk. We react to the completed teams of both Europe and USA and how they match up going into Rome.
What a moment, having just won his first DP World Tour event we recap the crowning of a superstar that is Ludvig Aberg. Having talked him up on the podcast, he is sure to make it as one of Luke Donald's 6 captain's picks this week. We also talk about Zach Johnson's 6 picks and the perhaps slight surprise of the Sam Burns inclusion. Join us next week, where we'll breakdown all 24 players for this year's Ryder Cup.
With a busy month since Brian Harman's Open Championship victory, we have Bryson shooting 58, Lucas Glover winning back to back tournaments, and Viktor Hovland winning the BMW Championship with a final round 61. But now it is time for Zach Johnson to make his decision on his 6 Ryder Cup captain's picks. We go through the runners and riders, and settle on who we think should get the nod for Rome.
The major season has concluded, and with it we have a new Open Champion in none other than Brian Harman. We backed him at 100/1 and he played magnificent golf from start to finish. We recap this Open, the reaction to Brian's win and really wonder what it'll take for Rory to finally get over the line.
Having been on site at Royal Liverpool for day 2 of the Open Championship we reflect on both the day out, and also the state of the championship. We talk course set up, Brian Harman taking this tournament by storm, and also how the weather will affect the weekend's play.
It's record time as within a matter of minutes Xander Schauffele matched Rickie Fowler's score of 62 to tie the lowest score in major championship history. We look back on an enthralling day at the US Open where LACC has yielded birdies in abundance. There is a reflection on the top of the leaderboard, as well as how we think this tournament may play out come Sunday down the stretch.
In what might be one of the biggest twists in sporting history, we now have a merger between the PGA Tour, the PIF & the DP World Tour. Coming out of absolutely nowhere with no players being consulted and them finding out on Twitter like the rest of us, this has truly sent shockwaves around the globe. For whatever small details we have available, we discuss the range of possibilities and implications this announcement may have for the future of world golf.
It's PGA Championship week, and we take a look at the state of this great major and why I think because of the last five editions this tournament is so greatly underrated. We talk about how the PGA can create its own unique identity going forward, including the addition of some of America's most iconic and prestigious golf courses to add to its rota. With the other three major championships having so clearly their own defined USP, the PGA has a real chance to become "the all rounders" major, where all different types of golfers genuinely have the chance to win. Coupled this with having a true variety of golf courses on its rota, and the PGA has a real opportunity to create an image of itself as the most dynamic, engaging, and competitive major championship.
24:00- Names of my favourites to win this week The second major of the year is finally upon us and we couldn't be more excited! There is lots to talk about, particularly breaking down the newly renovated Oak Hill Country Club East Course. We look at the demands this course will be present, which other courses are good indicators for success, and as a result who we think will have a fantastic chance of being crowned the winner this year. There is also a review of the betting strategy, and a sneak preview into tomorrow's episode of why the PGA has become such an underrated tournament.
The Masters has come and gone, and with that we have a new champion in Jon Rahm! But the success that LIV can take away from this year's Masters is top of my agenda. We reflect on the incredible final day charge from Phil Mickelson, how Brooks Koepka is officially back as a major contender, and will Rory ever be able to crack Augusta? There is also a review of our predictions from last week's preview show with overall a mixed bag of results, and a serious doubt as to whether I'll ever back Patrick Cantlay again.
In Part 2 of our Masters preview, I discuss all there is on the best way to go about selecting a favourite to win this years Masters tournament. What are the key indicators that contribute to predicting a Masters champion? What stats are most vital to navigating Augusta National successfully? All of these questions are answered & addressed + all is revealed regarding my own selections for this years tournament.
Part one of our Masters preview
This week we are dedicating the entire episode to talking about the state of LIV Golf. It's no secret that their top stars aren't performing and their tournaments aren't gaining notable PR and media coverage from mainstream sports publications. I put forward my arguments for why this is the case and what needs to happen in the short and long term for LIV to eventually succeed.
As the podcast returns back to its roots of talking about the major issues and topics within the game of golf for the fan that wants to break into the sport, where better to start than by discussing the hugely controversial proposal of rolling back the golf ball. This week golf's governing bodies the R&A and the USGA announced a proposed change that the golf ball will fly a shorter distance for elite tour pros in the biggest tournaments. I discuss what this means for the game of golf both at the pro and amateur level, the support for it, the opposition to it, and my overall thoughts and opinions. This will no doubt be one of the most polarising issues in golf for years to come, and the stakes couldn't be higher!
This week's episode looks back at all things Riviera, Rahm's dominance and his return to the summit of the world rankings. Tiger is back, and while other news caught the headlines, his golf over the four days left all fans smiling. Finally, with the first event of LIV Golf coming up this week, we discuss what success may look like for LIV this year, and the subsequent ensuing challenges they'll have to face in the near future.
As Tiger announces his return to tournament golf, we assess his chances and our own expectations for him this upcoming week. There is also a celebration over a Justin Rose victory, and an appreciation of Scottie Scheffler's brilliance as he makes his way back to the No 1 in the world.
We will be previewing all the dominant storylines for the world of golf heading into a dramatic 2023. How will LIV evolve, will they make any progress in their pursuit for World Ranking points? How will the PGA Tour's new elevated events structure affect the viewing experience for the fans? How can the DP World Tour forge its own identity having created the Strategic Alliance with the PGA Tour? Plus we take a look at the players to watch, and who I think will come out on top in each of the four major championships this year.
