"Longlegs"

"Longlegs"

2024-07-1301:43:43

For this week's main podcast review, Ema Sasic, Brendan Hodges & Will Mavity, and I are reviewing the latest film from director Osgood Perkins, "Longlegs," starring Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Nicolas Cage, Michelle Choi-Lee & Dakota Daulby. In what has been billed as one of the scariest films ever made and with many comparisons to "Se7en" and "The Silence Of The Lambs," NEON's new movie is part serial killer, part police procedural and part horror film, all coming together to create what is sure to be their most successful film to date. Is it as scary as many have said? What did we think of the performances, the filmmaking, and the marketing strategy? Tune in as we discuss these elements and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. "Longlegs" has been backed by one of the most innovative marketing campaigns of the year. With its dark storyline and spine-chilling visuals, it's no wonder that audience anticipation is at an all-time high for the latest horror film from director Osgood Perkins. Both he and the film's star, Maika Monroe, graciously shared their insights about their work on the film with me, while Cody Dericks delved into the film's editing process with the talented team of Greg Ng and Graham Fortin. Don't miss the chance to experience this new horror masterwork, which is hitting theatres this weekend courtesy of NEON. Thank you, and enjoy! The third and final film in West's "X Trilogy" follows the releases of "X" and "Pearl," and it continues the story of aspiring star Maxine Minx through 1980s Hollywood, incorporating various genre references and inspirations throughout. What did we think of this concluding film? Tune in as we discuss the performances, style, story, and bloody kills in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! "Kill" had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was the First Runner Up winner for the Midnight Madness section. Director/Writer Nikhil Nagesh Bhat's bloody, action, revenge film has been described as "The Raid" meets "Snowpiercer," and the companions could not be any more true. Bhat and his leading star, Lakshya, were kind enough to spend some time talking with me about their experience making the film, how it has found an audience in the United States, what went into the fight choreography, and more. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now playing in theaters from Roadside Attractions. "MaXXXine" is the third film in Ti West's "X" trilogy, following "X" and "Pearl." With a fully stacked ensemble of terrific actors, everyone is at the top of their game, supporting West and his leading lady Mia Goth's vision. One of those names is the incomparable Kevin Bacon. One of the great actors of our time, Bacon has amassed a career of countless classics and has never been afraid to take risks in his choices. He was generous with his time to talk with us about his swarmy private investigator character, John Labat, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which will open in theaters on July 5th from A24. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... For this week's second podcast review, Josh Parham & Giovanni Lago, and I are reviewing the latest film from Academy Award-winner Kevin Costner, "Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1," starring Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, Jamie Campbell Bower & Thomas Haden Church. After having its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the first part of Costner's epic western (which will stretch across four separate films) has been met with mixed reviews, some calling it a classic throwback to the great westerns we rarely see get made anymore and others saying it doesn't work as a standalone film. Does it belong on television or in the theater? What did we think of it? Tune in as we discuss this, plus the film's theme, its magnificent score, the performances from the massive ensemble, whether or not it has awards potential, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. "Green Border" had its world premiere at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival, where it received critical acclaim for Director/Co-Writer Agnieszka Holland's harrowing depiction of the refugee crisis sweeping its way through the Belarus–European Union border. I disagree with the definition of snub. A snub is going against expectations. What this pod describes is it as more of a vendetta or conspiracy

I absolutely love this podcast, but I wish they would talk more about what SHOULD win the Oscars and not what will win. Also, they thought the 3 Billboards screenplay was a mess, but they loved Wonder Woman? WTF?
