The Best Beauty Solutions Based on Your Facial features: 3 TipsIf you are hoping to look your best, choosing the right skin products and hair options can have a big impact.  First determine what your skin and hair type is, then pick out which products will work. You can take a look at a magazine if you need help.  Here are some beauty solutions based on your facial features. Here is the first tip for selecting the best beauty solution based on your facial features. When choosing foundation, the goal is to find the right amount of coverage while maintaining your natural beauty.  If you have dry skin, opt for a more hydrating foundation and one with adequate coverage.  This will help you cover up any dry spots.  If your skin is on the oily side, choose one with more of a matte finish to remove some of the excess moisture.  Either way, you can finish things off with a bronzer and some shimmer to accent your cheekbones and give your face some more structure.  You want to make sure you find the right match for your skin tone, too, so you don’t have any orange streaks! Here is the second tip for selecting the best beauty solution based on your facial features. As far as selecting an eyeshadow, go with one that compliments your eye color.  Green eyes look best with a brown, neutral tint or with gold or bronze on top.  You can add depth by applying both.  For a night out, try purple and green with a dark brown eyeliner and black mascara.  Blue eyes look best with brown, taupe, and purple while brown or hazel eyes can look great with just about any color.  You can opt for a darker shade for a night or green, gold, bronze, blue or purple. Finish the look with a black mascara and liner to bring out your natural beauty.  You might even opt for false lashes that are easy to apply and remove.  You’ll want to find the right ones, so they’ll stay put all night. Here is the third tip for selecting the best beauty solution based on your facial features. As far as choosing the right haircut, rectangle shapes look best with layered cuts, waves or curls.  An oval face shape looks great with bobs, long waves or curls, and a square shape looks great with a side part or with bangs.  The goal, again, is to compliment your face structure.  Experiment to find the right hair style.  You can take a look at photos online to figure out the most flattering looks for your shape or reach out to your hairdresser to help you decide what would be best if you are still stuck. These are just a few tips to picking your best beauty solutions.  You can also take a look online at makeup palettes and moisturizers that will work as well as outfits and accessories that would flatter your facial features.  Or ask a friend you trust to help you out.  When it all comes together, you will have the perfect look!To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. If you’ve booked an acting role, you may be wondering what all you can be compensated for in addition to your hourly pay that your signed up for when you took the booking.  You’ll want to make sure you save receipts and/or keep a running list of expenses in a spreadsheet, especially if you’re told that you will be able to claim additional expenses.  Here are a a few tips to make sure you’re getting everything you can from your gig. Here is the first tip for making sure you’re compensated as an actor. If the gig is far from home (and sometimes even if it isn’t) you may be able to receive a travel stipend or add the mileage traveled to your paycheck in order to be reimbursed.  You can also ask for travel expenses if you work out of the country.  You may have to collect receipts, so to be fully prepared, make sure you keep a record of your time on the road.  If the casting director gives you a threshold of allowable expenses up front, you’ll want to keep track and count every penny spent so you can submit it after the gig has completed. Here is the second tip for making sure you’re compensated as an actor. If you have to stay at a hotel until your gig is completed, or with a friend or relative, this is something you may also be compensated for.  Again, you’ll want to keep track of your receipts showing the length of your stay or make sure you have information about how much you can potentially get from the casting director ahead of time.  If you have to stay somewhere other than home and haven’t been given this information up front, don’t be afraid to ask!  The information isn’t always readily available. Here is the third tip for making sure you’re compensated as an actor. You may also be able to write off any expenses you have to prepare ahead of time, such as marketing expenses (i.e., your headshot photo session or a professional resume writer, etc.), acquiring a business manager or signing a contract with an agent.  You can usually write off any non-reimbursable expenses if you have a certain allowable amount offered to you. Although, this is more for your end-of-year taxes, this can also be something to bring up to a casting director.  You can give the receipts to a tax professional to see what you’re allowed to request.  You can also write off your union dues each year. So if you have to pay them, ask your accountant to see if you’re able to be compensated. These are just a few of the lesser-known ways to be reimbursed in addition to your hourly pay.  If you work any overtime, make sure to track that, too.  You will want to have documentation of anything over and beyond eight hours so you can be properly compensated.  At the end of the day, you’re a working actor and your time is valuable! To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. There are a few things you’ll need to know in advance if you want to make it as a runway model.  This is a highly exclusive form of modeling even though it’s what many models think of when they dream of making it in the industry.  Runway models possess very specific physical characteristics and must have the talent to make it.  Here are some tips for getting started. Here is the first tip for landing a spot on the runway.First and foremost, runway models need to have certain attributes in order to even be considered.  This type of modeling is the most rigid when it comes to a model’s physical appearance.  As a general rule of thumb, female models are at least 5’8” and males are 6’0” at a minimum.  Moreover, models are commonly between the ages of 15 and 21 and have naturally slender frames that allow them to fit into the garments created by the designers who contract them.  There are always exceptions but they’re very few and far between.  Models should secure agency representation before trying to book a show. Here is the second tip for landing a spot on the runway. You will also need to have the runway strut down pat.  There is a very specific way in which models carry themselves when all eyes are on them as well as techniques to pivot and turn at the end of the catwalk.  View videos online and practice at home until you nail it.  You’ll also want to learn a few variations so you add some pizzazz that will help you get booked often. Here is the third tip for landing a spot on the runway.Strutting your stuff on a runway takes confidence.  This is uber-important for making the job look easy when you get out there in front of onlookers.  Those attending fashion shows want to notice the clothes you’re wearing and not cringe because they’re sensing your anxiety wearing them.  To build up your confidence, sign up for workshops, classes or other knowledge-sharing events that will allow you to practice until you feel comfortable.  The more you practice, the more confident you’ll become. Here is the fourth tip for landing a spot on the runway. If you have the physical presence to be on the runway, you’ll also be able to make it in other areas of high-end modeling, including designer editorials.  So, if you haven’t booked your first runway gig yet, you can try pursuing these print campaigns until you do.  Of course, your agent should be helping you land a few gigs.  Once you have an “in” with a designer, you’re more apt to be on their list for the next big show.  Plus, booking a few shoots before you transition to runway can help build the confidence needed to shine. If you feel you have what it takes to be a high fashion model, research agencies you feel would be the best fit.  Then, book a session with a photographer and submit your portfolio so you can make it onto the runway! To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. It’s no secret – the entertainment industry never sleeps.  And, if you’re in the prime of your career, you may be feeling overwhelmed with work.  While this is a great problem to have, burning yourself out is never a good thing.  To ensure you find some balance, you should make a conscious effort to disconnect between acting gigs long enough to refuel.  Here are some ways to do just that. Here is the first way to disconnect between acting gigs. One of the best ways to disconnect is to schedule a staycation, which is typically when you choose to take a mini vacation right at home.  Make sure to set aside time in advance to allow yourself to unwind.  This should be a very intentional break that you can plan before it starts and stick to after a project wraps.  While you may not always want to take time off, if you’ve recently booked several acting gigs in a row and are feeling exhausted, this is the perfect time to opt for some at-home time off.  And although you might be tempted to use this time off to schedule in a vacation full of travel and sight-seeing, sometimes it’s best to not add more to your plate so you can actually feel like you’ve actually been able to get some R&R.  The last thing you want is to have to take a vacation from your vacation because you kept yourself super busy. Here is the second way to disconnect between acting gigs. You might also consider unplugging during your break in order to disconnect.  If you can’t get away from your phone and computer entirely, at least give yourself some time each day to turn off the electronics and allow your mind to re-center.  This day and age, it can be especially difficult to do so, but you’re likely to find that even a few minutes every day can make a huge difference.  The mind can get so used to reaching for a device in order to unwind, only by refusing to do so can you adjust this thought process.  To help ease urges to check in, have a designated electronics-free space in your home that you can retreat to whenever you need to realign. Here is the third way to disconnect between acting gigs.To really disconnect, you’ll want to either give the next acting gig search a rest temporarily or book your next project a few days or weeks out from the wrap-up date of the first.  As a general rule of thumb, you shouldn’t be booking anything that begins right after your current project is set to wrap-up, anyway, in case you have to go a few days over.  Of course, you’ll also need to determine how long of a break you can afford to give yourself.  Factor these things into the equation and come up with the perfect formula for when you want to start something new. Once you have a solid understanding of how much time off is just right and when you should begin your break, during the in between, allow yourself to fully disconnect and have some much-deserved down time!To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. You’ve decided you really want to make it big in television acting and you have an idea of which direction you’d like to head, but you may not know about all of the opportunities that are available to you. Like what are some of the longevity opportunities that might surface if you don’t decide you want to star in a sitcom and stick with it for many seasons.  This is why it’s a good idea to understand the different types of television opportunities that are out there and get the full picture before you proceed.  While you may have an idea upfront of what’s available and where to start, being aware of lesser-known gigs will up your chances of having a satisfying career.  Here are three types of television roles to keep an eye out for. Here is the first type of television acting to consider. The first, and perhaps most well-known, type of television acting that you could have already considered pursuing is that of a series regular.  This, of course, is an actor who is one of the main characters in a recurring series.  Series typically start out with a pilot episode and a network will opt to pick up the show or not.  So, if you go this route, while exciting, don’t be discouraged if the few shows you book don’t make it past the pilot.  Put the spots on your resume and try and try again, as they say. Here is the second type of television acting to consider.Another type of television acting to check out is the role of the guest star.  This is where you star in just a few episodes, call it quits and can move onto the next project.  If your role ends up being a big hit, though, you may be called back to do more episodes.  So, this is something to keep an eye out for before you begin to pile more gigs onto your plate.  While you can’t sit back and anticipate that his will happen, it’s always a possibility.  It’s flattering to be called back to take more episodes on, but it can get stressful if you’re already knee deep in a new project and aren’t sure how to fulfill both roles. Here is the third type of television acting to consider. The third type of television acting is taking on cameos.  This is where you’re involved in one episode and that concludes your role.  Cameo acting allows you to move between projects fairly quickly, so if you don’t want to necessarily be stuck in one role for a long period of time and would like to dabble in many different types of productions at once to see where you’d be the best fit, this may be the best option for you.  Cameo acting is more flexible than the position of a series regular or that of a guest star. These are just three types of television acting to take a look at.  There are many different opportunities available, including commercial work, background roles and others that may suit you even better.  Having the entire picture of what’s out there in the television world before you begin will help you take your career in the best direction for you.To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. These days it is especially important to market yourself online, and a big part of doing this includes branding yourself on as many social media channels as possible to maximize exposure.  There are other ways in which you can maximize your reach, too.  Here’s a few tips for boosting your social media presence. Here is the first tip for boosting your social media exposure.Staying active is incredibly important when it comes to engaging with your audience on your socials.  You’ll need to share relevant content that draws users in and makes them want to follow you.  Think about what you can do to stand out.  What could make you a go-to influencer?  Why would others want to check out your pages?  Everyone has a social media account now but there are just a select few in the entertainment industry that fans seem to want to follow.  You’ll need to come up with ways in which you can be in that realm and gain the same fan base as your favorite celebs. Here is the second tip for boosting your social media exposure.Speaking of the select few, you’ll want to take a look at what they’re doing to draw audiences in.  Is there something that they’re doing on their social media that stands out?  What patterns do you notice about the content they create?  Follow some influencers and track what they’re posting to determine what about these profiles sets them apart.  How often are you getting notifications of new content that you feel is intriguing and makes you want to visit their pages? Here is the third tip for boosting your social media exposure. You’ll want to deliver a variety of content on your social media, too.  If you only post updates, your followers will get bored.  Only sharing photos without context?  They may be confused.  Take advantage of all of the various settings and tools each site has to offer and mix things up a bit.  Make others want to look at your sites in the same way you want to check out what the influencers you follow have posted. Here is the fourth tip for boosting your social media exposure. You should also stay in the know about what’s trending and add in the latest to your social media feed.  Follow pages that offer insight into the type of content that you hope to incorporate into your socials, whether that be fashion, beauty, film, television or other “it” factors.  What you choose to incorporate will depend on the direction you hope to head.  Leveraging the latest is a great way to draw in those who also want to be in the know.  You’ll become another go-to and trusted source.Building and boosting your social media reach is extremely important for getting your name out there and beginning to generate a solid fan base.  Follow these tips to expand your brand and you’ll start to get noticed quickly.  Once you get a solid footing in the social networking world and understand what you need to do to draw some attention, the rest will be easy!To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. 4 Ways to Continually Improve Acting SkillsBeing a successful actor takes determination and fortitude to continually learn along the way.  There’s an ongoing learning curve in the entertainment industry and there is an endless amount of knowledge to be had. It’s best to never get too settled.  Here are a few ways to continue to improve your acting skills and grow your career so you will always show up with your A-game.Here is the first way to continually Improve Acting SkillsOne way to continue to improve your acting skills and grow as an actor is to take acting classes between gigs, especially if you’re looking to expand upon your knowledge base and have a more solid understanding of a particular type of acting.  You may have been stuck in a particular role for such a long time that you’re feeling as if you’re not diversifying your skillset enough or you may have just heard of a particular niche that sounds interesting and you’re hoping to learn more.  No matter your reasons for taking classes, these offer an excellent chance to take your career in a new direction or build upon your current talents. Here is the second way to continually Improve Acting SkillsAnother way to continually improve your acting skills and grow is to explore the world of improv acting.  See if there are meetups happening in your area.  Improv requires on-the-spot decision-making and forces actors out of their comfort zones.  Joining in can be difficult at first but once you start going regularly, it will get easier.  You’ll be able to not only improve your cognitive skills, which are critical for success as an actor, but you’ll likely start to move past overthinking what you’re going to say and start having some fun with how you present your piece, concentrating more on the nonverbals. Here is the third way to Continually Improve Acting SkillsYou may also choose to take on an acting workshop.  While classes can require enrollment and tuition, workshops may not be affiliated with any sort of formal educational institution and take place periodically throughout the year, typically at local theatres or event spaces.  If you’re looking for something that is shorter term than an actual class, this may be a great way for you to continue to improve your acting skills and grow in your career. Here is the fourth way to Continually Improve Acting SkillsAnother great way to learn and take your skills to the next level is to simply study your favorite actors in their roles.  Whether this means watching films, television series, commercials, or online videos, or buying tickets to your favorite plays, take a closer look at how these actors deliver their lines and the body language and facial expressions that come along with it.  How do they make their character so believable and deliver their lines so naturally?  Studying the work of well-known actors will help you perfect your own skills. These are all great ways to fine tune your talents to ensure you have what it takes to be that go-to actor time and time again.  Continue to learn and you will continue to get booked! To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. Anxiety is scary.  Not only if you want to be the world’s best actor or actress, but in general.  It can give you panic attacks and cause you to freeze and forget your lines when you need to be on point the most.  If you want to make it in the entertainment world, you’ll need to come up with    strategies to manage your anxiety.  Here are a few tips for doing just that. Here’s the first way to work, not against, your anxiety.Despite some of the self-talk you may be doing, it can be difficult to overcome anxiety, especially when you’re put right on the spot.  Of course, acting requires you to become comfortable with being put on the spot, so you’ll need to come up with ways to manage your nerves and not go into freeze mode whenever you’re in front of a casting director or camera.  One of the best ways to do this is to master some breathing techniques.  There are a ton of these available online and it’s important that you tackle those that seem best for you.  Take a look at what’s out there and see which seem the most interesting.  Then, you can determine what exercises seem the most fun. Here’s the second way to work, not against, your anxiety.Another way to overcome your anxiety is to socialize more.  Yes, it’s true.  Just getting out with friends and family can help you overcome any reluctance to express confidence in front of others.  The more social you are, the easier it becomes.  Schedule some time to meet up with those you care about and reassure yourself that you can be okay sharing how you feel.  This will help you learn to let go of some of the anxiety that comes with auditioning and playing your role to its fullest. Here’s the third way to work, not against, your anxiety.Anxiety will probably, from time to time, cause you to freeze on the spot.  This can be particularly frustrating, especially if you’re in front on a CD or in the middle of a scene.  To help ensure this doesn’t happen, try to stay in the here-and-now.  Remind yourself of the ground beneath your feet and practice other grounding techniques that will help you stay focused on the task at hand.  Bringing all your awareness to your breath is a known technique for instantly becoming calm and more relaxed in the moment. This practice is called Mindfulness. Again, you can find many other techniques online. Here’s the fourth way to work, not against, your anxiety.Don’t overthink everything.  Yes, this seems next to impossible when you are in the middle of something that will make or break your opportunity to step into a role, but this is possible.  The more you overthink it and give yourself anxiety, the harder it can be to feel centered and ready to give it your all.  Use the above techniques to focus more on what you’re doing and get out of your own head! Here’s the fifth way to work, not against, your anxiety.Just be yourself.  A lot of times, there seems to feel like there is overwhelming pressure to be someone else.  This is what acting is all about, right?  At the end of the day, you are who you are, though, and you’ll need to stay true to this to make this career work.  So, don’t forget who you are and keep this in mind, first and foremost.Anxiety can be overwhelming if you don’t have the tools to keep it at bay.  Remember to breathe, stay focused and be who you are.  Even though you’re playing a part, at the end of the day, this is what it’s all about! To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. Memorizing lines can be challenging for many actors. And yet, there are a few tricks to the trade that can help you memorize more quickly if you’ve landed a gig and are given a script.  The process may seem daunting at first, but practice makes perfect! Here is the first way to memorize your lines like a pro.First and foremost, you need to take care of yourself.  Make sure you are getting enough rest.  Research has shown losing half a night’s sleep for just one night can limit your ability to focus and lead to memory loss (not over time, but immediately).  If you get an adequate amount of sleep every night, you’ll be able to maintain your cognitive skills for longer period of time, which will help greatly as you memorize your lines. Here is the second way to memorize your lines like a pro.Once you’ve given the script, ensure you are in a quiet space and limit distractions so you can start to soak in every piece of it.  You’ll need to be in a place that is free from distractions.  Turn off your phone, or place it on silent, and sit somewhere comfortable.  Limiting stimulus and discomfort is critical to ensure you’re able to focus on the task at hand and memorize the pages in front of you. Here is the third way to memorize your lines like a pro.Do a simple read-through first to memorize, taking a look at what is on the page without overthinking nonverbals.  Then, return to it, adding in your character expressions, body language, etc., as you read.  Visualize the scene and situation as if it were a real-world event you’re experiencing. This will help you internalize it a way that natural to the way our brains remember things. In no time, you will have the lines down and can shift your focus to making the role pop from the page.  It’s important to know what your character is supposed to say before understanding mannerisms, idiosyncrasies and quirks, body language and the like.  These things are all key must-knows, but you need to understand what the character is going to say first in order to know what movements should accompany the dialogue. Here is the fourth way to memorize your lines like a pro.A tried-and-true method for memorizing dialogue is to write down the lines on a blank piece of paper as you begin to commit them to memory to see how many lines you’ve actually mastered.  This way, you’ll have a solid understanding what you have down pat and what you need to continue to work on.  Research has also shown that completing an action while you are reading is a powerful way to commit the words to memory.  Of course, this won’t work for everyone.  However, if you tend to be someone who is easily distracted, try keeping your hands or legs busy while you’re peering down at the paper in front of you.  Having the whole body engaged could help you to memorize your lines more quickly. These are just some of the tricks you can consider when you’re trying to learn your lines.  Chances are, you’ll find a way that works best for you and once you have this down, it will be easy to memorize pages and come to the set fully prepared. To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. There are many different types of modeling and when you start to look at all of the opportunities available, it can get overwhelming pretty quickly.  Are you cut out for the world of fitness?  High fashion runway?  Catalogue modeling?  How do you know what the requirements are for each of these?  Can you do all of them?  Here are a few of the top options to give you an idea of what is out there and whether you feel one would be more appropriate than another. Here is the first type of modeling to consider.High fashion modeling may be one route to go – but there are very specific requirements if you plan to make it in the fashion industry.  These models have to adhere to strict height requirements and have what it takes to strut their stuff on the runway.  Designers count on high fashion models to display their new lines in a particular way and are very selective about who they choose to represent their brands.  High fashion models are typically between 5”8’ to 5”11’ and have a dress size of 4-6.  The age range to make it big in this industry is generally from 14 to 25, depending on how quickly one can meet the height requirement. Here is the second type of modeling to consider.Print or catalogue models serve a variety of companies, and they normally represent these businesses in magazine, online, or newspaper advertisements, on billboards, and sometimes even in television commercials.  This realm of modeling is most common and is the niche in which many models get their start.  There are a ton of opportunities, and numerous models have spent their entire careers in print.  Being a print model tends to not only generate great income but provides a certain level of job security that helps in a gig market. Here is the third type of modeling to consider.Fitness Modeling is another popular route to take (or one if it’s close cousins which include bikini or lingerie modeling.  All of these niches require models to be hyper-aware of their physiques and be willing to show them off, either interactively (in video form) or in print ads.  In the age of Photoshop and all of its alternatives, this isn’t age intimidating as it may at first seem.  While the premise of maintaining physical fitness is still a staple, there is some more wiggle room that makes the industry easier to enter and one that allows models to make a solid living.  Moreover, if you want to switch it up along the way, there are always other forms of print modeling available, which is an easy transition (since you’ve already flaunted your stuff in print.)There are numerous types of modeling to consider.  These are just three of the most popular paths.  Before you get your start, it’s always a good idea to research what’s out there and have a certain direction in mind.  This way, you can home in on what’s available in your chosen area and get started more quickly.  Take notes and know that you can always switch up your modeling career as you go!To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. Finding your acting niche, more than anything, has to do with building self-awareness and self-discovery. The more you know who you are as a person, the easier it will be to find your place in the industry. After all, you’ll want to pursue a niche that is going to make you happy and one that you feel you can stick with for a long time to come.  If you’re just getting started and are unsure about which direction to head, or you’ve been headed in a direction that isn’t fulfilling, and you’re hoping for a change, here are a few tips for finding the niche for you. Here is the first step for finding your acting niche.Everyone has certain morals and values. These are instilled in us at an early age through modeling and help to build a sense of right versus wrong. Of course, your values system can change over time, but generally, core beliefs (good, bad, or indifferent) tend to stick. What does this have to do with acting? It’s all about trusting your gut – then, taking that one step further to determine why something feels off. If you have been working on building your commercial ad portfolio but aren’t connecting with the brands you’re representing or the clients you’re working with, perhaps it’s time to switch things up.  You may find, in your search for an alternate course, that commercial acting, in general, just is not your style and you would feel more fulfilled in another niche. Here is the second step for finding your acting niche.Along these same lines, you will want to consider whether you’re finding joy in the gigs you’re pursuing. It is okay to try out many different things all at once rather than remain hyper-focused in one area of acting. If you try out many different types of acting, you’ll be more apt to find something that brings you joy more quickly.  It’s also okay to decide that you don’t want to head in a certain direction, but of course, you don’t want to burn any bridges. If you’re right smack dab in the middle of a project, do your best to finish, focusing on displaying your best acting abilities right through to the end. Then, you can choose to cross that particular type of gig off your ‘niche list’ moving forward. Here is the third step for finding your acting niche.Remember, your niche is uniquely you. Thus, it’s important not to get so caught up on following in the footsteps of your favorite star or rigidly assuming that you need to head in a particular direction because that’s what you read about somewhere along the way. Finding your niche means not comparing yourself to anyone else or feeling like you have to go on a predetermined journey. Really connect with the inner you to best determine what your career should look like.Discovering who you are as an actor takes time, dedication, and determination. Know that, as you change through the years, your career direction may change with you. Whether it does or doesn’t, finding your niche is always extremely rewarding! To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. When you’re meeting with an agent, first and foremost, it’s important to come prepared and confidently ready to present everything this agent will be expecting from you.  Of course you can never completely predict how a meeting will go, but you must prepare as much as possible for what you may be asked.  Here are five things you’ll want to have ready before you head out the door to meet with an agent. Here is the first thing every agent wants to hear.Agents will always want to have a good understanding of your professional history.  You’ll want to bring an up-to-date resume that reflects everything you’ve done in the entertainment industry.  This includes all projects, large and small, as well as any acting workshops, classes, and your degree program information, if applicable.  You’ll want to make sure you can offer the agent some insights should you be asked to provide more information about something that is listed on your resume, so be prepared to go more in depth on any given subject if requested. Here is the second thing every agent wants to hear. You may be asked what your strengths and growth opportunities are as an actor, and you’ll want to be able to answer these types of questions thoroughly on the spot.  Think about how you might respond ahead of time and come up with something that seems professional and practical.  You don’t want to relay information about what you can do to improve if it is not completely feasible.  It should be something that you will have the opportunity to engage in at some point during your career, particularly if you move forward with the agent. Here is the third thing every agent wants to hear.Come prepared with your goals.  These can be both short- and long-term goals and should reflect your ambitions as an actor and what directions you’re hoping to head towards.  Be specific and matter-of-act about any goals you state.  This will help you come across as confident and self-aware, which is key.  These should be aligned with how you would like to grow as an actor as well.  The more cohesive your plans are, the better.  This will show the agent that you’re serious about making it in entertainment and they will recognize your willingness to continue to learn and grow. Here is the fourth thing every agent wants to hear.Another thing that will give you a leg up is to have a list of personal and professional references handy, or already-prepared reference letters with contact information for those who wrote them.  This will help to concrete any claims that you’ve made about your work ethic and other aspects of your commitment to doing well in the industry. Here is the fifth thing every agent wants to hear. You’ll want to have a few questions in your back pocket to ask the agent, too. Agent interviews should consist of a two-way dialogue.  Ask anything that you want to know about the agency without making it look like you didn’t do any research ahead of time.  You might ask what the process is for booking work and how quickly you’ll be able to do so.  The agent should also appear confident in responding and willing to discuss any reservations you might have.Above all, the most important thing to take away from this is to always step into these meetings prepared. Confidently sharing with the agent what you’ve accomplished and where your goals are headed.  Take notes, so you remember to bring these things up in discussion and show up with a portfolio supporting everything you discuss.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions and make sure you feel good about the connection before you move forward. To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop.
3 Signs You’ve Made It BigYou may be wondering what it looks like to ‘make it big.’  While everyone has different goals and definitions in mind when they think about where they want to head and what it means to ‘make it’, there are a few clear signs to confirm that you are in fact going places.  These may include a natural progression career-wise to more challenging roles and well-known projects.  Here are three signs you can be proud of to know you’ve ‘made it big’ in entertainment. Here is the first sign you’ve made it big.One of the surefire signs that you’ve made it in the entertainment world is the moment you see your name in the credits.  This is a goal of many budding actors, and you typically won’t see your name on the list until you’ve played a role that is quite noteworthy.  Even if this was something you’d been booked for in a smaller project, seeing your name in those credits is a great achievement.  So, if you’re credited, take it in and acknowledge your hard work is paying off. Keep on this path and you’ll be well on your way to the goal of superstardom status. Here is the second sign you’ve made it big.Another sign that you’re well on your way to having your name known in Hollywood is that you’ve landed bigger roles with big titles.  Being able to get a few featured roles under your belt means you’re moving up the ladder.  Most actors move from background role to background role until they’re able to make a jump to more well-recognized gigs.  Once you’ve attained featured status, it’s easier to continue along this path.  It takes time, hard work and patience to build enough credits to make it this far so be proud if you’re here. This is typically the point at which you’ll want to find an agent to represent you moving forward. Keep up the good work! Here is the third sign you’ve made it big.Another sign that you’re ‘making it’ is that you’ll able to join an actor’s union.  This goes along with landing featured roles and requesting representation.  Typically, this is only possible once your career has reached a specific point and having the ability to unionize is a big deal!  You’ll be able to take on larger roles and enjoy all the protections your union has to offer, such as the ability to work within reasonable hours, take breaks when needed, and be afforded a lot of other perks.  Having the prerequisites to be part of an actor’s union means that you’ve been in the industry long enough and worked hard enough to enjoy taking advantage of some of its most sought-after benefits. In summary, reaching the point of being featured in films, becoming unionized and the ability to continue to book gig after gig without having to put in the same hours as you did in the beginning, means you’ve reached a point in confidently knowing that this is something you can truly make a career out of! Until you’re at this level, it okay if you decide to hold onto a 9-5 and take on side projects in between.  Once you start to become recruited for projects based on past work experience and your roles have become recognizable, you’ll then be able to be more selective about the types of projects you take on.  Until that happens, remember to be patient, keep working hard and bide your time a little until your moment arrives when you can confidently know that you’ve made it big!To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. Signing an entertainment contract is a big deal, and you’ll want to ensure you understand all of the details before putting your name on the bottom line.  You may be super excited, but there are a few phrases you’ll want to make sure you’re aware of before you move forward. Here is the first contract phrase you have to know.Of course, making sure you’re going to be paid adequately is a big deal, and you’ll want the amount stated on the contract to match industry standards.  It may be a little under or over, but you can do some research ahead of time to determine what the average pay is for any particular gig.  Your pay may include the phrase per diem, which basically is your daily allowance to cover any living expenses when traveling.  This amount should always be adequate to cover those costs. Here is the second contract phase you have to know.If there’s a back-end provision regarding pay in the contract or there is a statement about being paid within a reasonable timeframe (or anything to that regard), you’ll want to ask a lot of questions.  This typically just means that you will be paid at the end of the project (i.e., at the wrap or a few weeks afterwards).  Not all actors are willing to work this way because they need the money up front, and you’ll have to decide whether or not you are comfortable with that.  You may also see percentage splits of the production revenue.  Make sure this is not your total compensation if you are working to make a living.  You’ll need to be paid for your hard work and effort no matter what – even if the production is a flop.  After all, you have little control over how much revenue it will produce. Here is the third contract phrase you have to know.Your contract may cite exclusivity, which is a clause that usually means you won’t be providing the same services to another party (i.e., production company, agent, etc.), within a certain area and during a specific period of time.  This is written into contracts so that you are limited in engaging with competitors. This is also a way to guarantee you don’t have the ability to take anything from the current party you’re entering into the contract with and use it to your (or someone else’s) benefit.  To put it simply, it’s an anti-competition clause. Here is the fourth contract phrase you have to know. You’ll want to pay attention to the terms of agreement – especially if exclusivity is written into the contract.  This is vital so you are fully aware of all the guidelines and aren’t caught doing something that will get you booted off the set or make you lose your representation.  Sometimes the period of time for which a contract is binding is overlooked and actors end up unwittingly breaking the terms.  This could give you a bad rep in a ‘who’s-who’ industry, which is definitely something you’ll want to avoid at all costs. If you have any questions about anything written into your contract, it is important to make sure you speak up.  And remember, you can hire legal representation to point out any red flags.  It is not uncommon that many actors decide to hire a lawyer to review their contract before making a final decision. To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. So, you’ve booked a bikini shoot!  You may be super excited and super nervous all at once.  Guess what?  That’s totally normal!  It can feel like you’re under a ton of pressure to look good in next to nothing.  This is stressful and can be nerve wracking any way you cut it.  If you’re worried about looking your absolute best in a bikini, here are a few simple tips for making the most of this experience. Here is the first tip for looking your best in a bikini shoot.Drink plenty of water to make sure your system is cleared out well before the big day.  The last thing you need is to feel bloated while you’re on set.  You’ll want to make sure you flush out any toxins ahead of time and stay hydrated, keep your skin glowing and to feel your best.  If you typically don’t get enough water as it is, aim to up your intake as much as possible. Here is the second tip for looking your best in a bikini shoot.Speaking of skin, you’ll want to take care of it – extra – before your bikini shoot.  As soon as you’re notified of the booking, start to make your routine a must-do every morning and every night (no matter what).  Cleanse properly, tone, use serums, moisturize, and always apply sunscreen to avoid UV rays.  You’ll want try and keep blemishes at bay as well to ensure your natural tone radiates in front of the camera. You can add a bit of coconut to your moisturize if your skin seems too dry, and if you’re looking for a deep cleanse, try using a charcoal cleanser. Here is the third tip for looking your best in a bikini shoot. You’ll want to be well rested, so it’s important to get plenty of sleep before the bikini shoot.  About a week before, start adjusting your sleep schedule to ensure you’re getting a solid 7-8 hours.  If you’re chronically sleep-deprived, go to bed much earlier than you normally would and try to fall asleep by the time you’d usually hit the hay.  Do this until the new routine sticks.  Then when it comes time, you’ll look well-rested and ready to go.Here is the fourth tip for looking your best in a bikini shoot. When it comes to posing, remember you should never sit upright in a bikini.  While it’s a natural position, it can appear very unflattering.  You’ll have to ditch the comfort a bit and, instead, lean back and prop yourself up on your elbows to tighten your stomach.  You can also stick out your upper torso, suck in your stomach, and arch your back in a way that your legs are slightly behind you. When in doubt, raise your arms above your head, which will instantly slimming.  You can also sit cross-legged and lean back on your hands. If you practice these tips before, during and after your shoot, you’ll end up with some great pics and will be better prepared for the next time you’re booked. After all, with the awesome bikini shots you can expect to capture, there will definitely be a next time!To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. 5 Ways to Create Eye-Catching HeadshotsHeadshots are a critical piece of an actor’s marketing package.  The more appealing your headshot is, the greater the chance a casting director will take a second look at your submission.  There are certain ways actors can ensure that their photos will stand out from the rest.  Here are five ways to create memorable headshots that will be sure to get you noticed. Here is the first tip to creating eye-catching headshots. The first important thing you’ll want to do is work with a photographer who specifically specializes in entertainment headshots.  You can find many local photographers online or better yet, you could ask for a reference from someone you know in the industry.  These photographers are trained to position you in just the right way in front of the camera in order to capture the highest quality image.  Working with someone who doesn’t have experience in headshot creation for actors could mean ending up with images that are out of focus or just simply not up to par. Here is the second tip to creating eye-catching headshots. When choosing an outfit for your shoot, you’ll want to stick with a solid color that works well with your features and skin-tone.  You don’t want to go with a hue that overpowers but also don’t want one that washes you out. Stay clear from any color that doesn’t complement your complexion, such as a stark white if you have fair skin. You’ll also want to stay away from any colors that could clash with the background of your shoot. Stay away from busy patterns as they tend to be very distracting.  Remember, headshots are just below the shoulders and up, so your shirt choice matters.  If you’re unsure of which colors to choose, you can always opt for grey or black, or ask your photographer on their opinion for the best option. Here is the third tip to creating eye-catching headshots. When it comes to make-up for your headshots, avoid colors that are bold, far-to-vibrant or ones that don’t work well with your features.  Sticking with a natural palette and highlighting areas of your face that you want to enhance will be your best bet. Using complementary eye shadows to emphasize your eye color is always a good option. Play around with different looks in advance to see what works best for you. This will allow you to feel both confident and prepared for when the shoot day happens. Here is the fourth tip to creating eye-catching headshots. When it comes to your hair, it’s always best to go with a natural style for headshots. Keep your hair down but out of your face so casting directors can see exactly what you look like.  If you have curly hair, opt to keep it curly rather than using a straightener.  Also, if you color your hair, make sure you have it just the way you want it both in your pictures and for a while after the shoot.  You don’t want to switch up your style before you’ve completed an audition and confirmed a booking as casting directors generally choose you for your specific style based on these photos.  Once you’ve landed a part, then would be a reasonable time to ask the CD if and when you can change it up.Here is the fifth tip to creating eye-catching headshots. When it comes to your smile – just be you!  It can sometimes be uncomfortable shifting into the various positions the photographer asks of you to in order to capture the best lighting and angles. Just remember to be natural and try not to overthink too much as it tends to show in your smile.  Find ways to make yourself feel the most comfortable. Relax, take a deep breath before the camera clicks, and you’ll be able to deliver your best looks effortlessly. These are just a few of the things you can im
4 Things You Can Expect Once You’re BookedSo, you’ve gotten a callback and were chosen for a role in a new project!  This is an exciting time!  For the moment, you can catch your breath and enjoy the win.  Then, it’s time to prepare for the next steps.  Here is what you can expect once you’ve been booked. Here’s the first thing you can expect once you’re booked.Clear your schedule once you’ve landed a part because things are about to get busy!  You’ll be expected to be available for all shoot days and for as many hours as it takes to complete the part.  Usually you’ll have a general schedule to follow, but this may be subject to change.  In some cases you’ll be asked to show up wherever needed at the last minutes notice. In other cases details may be vague or not fully disclosed ahead of time, so just remember to stay prepared and be available whenever you’re needed. Here’s the second thing you can expect once you’re booked. The next thing you can expect once you’re booked is to have a few days, or months, without much of a personal life.  After all, hard work comes with sacrifice. As you’re preparing to do your best for everything that’s expected of you, it can become a challenge and often a distraction to hang out with anyone who is not on the production team.  This goes hand-in-hand with having to clear your schedule.  Make those initial phone calls to friends and family and fill them in on what you’ll be doing. It’s important to stay connected but you also are going to want to focus your full attention towards doing your best in the role you’ve landed. Here’s the third thing you can expect once you’re booked. When you’re on set for a project, your average day will typically be very long.  You may be required to show up first thing in the morning, perhaps even before sunrise, and expected to stay well past dark. This of course all depends on how quickly everything you are required to do is completed. This is more common for projects that are on a shorter-term. Often, if it’s going to be months before a shoot wraps, they have the ability to pace this more reasonably.  On the other hand, if a project must be completed within a shorter number of days, expect these days to be long ones.  Once you get the necessary credits under your belt and are able to become part of a union, the crew is then required to go easier on these demands.  Until then, anything is fair game so prepare yourself for long work days. Here’s the fourth thing you can expect once you’re booked. It’s important for you to follow any and all instructions given to you once you’re booked – whether you receive these in advance or an hour before you’re expected to show up on set.  It’s best to stay on top of your emails and always make sure your phone ringer is on in case you get important updates.  Always show up on time and ready to work. If you were given a specific wardrobe to wear, wear it.  If you were given instructions about your hair and make-up, follow these. If you always do what is asked of you the project will be completed smoothly and successfully. These are just a few of the things you can expect once you get booked.  The bottom line is, you’ll need to be ready and willing to go the extra mile to show you’re serious about your desires to succeed in the entertainment industry. You’ve made it this far so keep showing up for yourself and the other people on set and you’ll lend a hand in making whatever project you’ve booked be as successful as possible. To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop. 3 Tips for Landing a Role in a CommercialIf you really want to make it big in television commercials, there are a few things you’ll need to know.  Commercial acting comes with its own set of expectations, just like any other route you decide to take.  In general, it will take a solid understanding of advertising, marketing, and a degree of salesmanship. As well as having confidence and projecting yourself in a way in such that you can be convincing in a very brief period of time. Here are a few tips to help you get started in your pursuit of commercial acting. Here is the first tip for landing a role in a commercial.Commercial acting is all about having a larger-than-life personality.  When you land an audition, it’s important to appear posed, confident, and to be able to ‘sell’ yourself in a way in which you seem believable in a minute or less (the length of an average commercial).  Think of the audition like an elevator pitch of sorts and know, very concisely, how to convey who you are.  When you’re preparing for an audition, practice by looking at yourself in the mirror and reading lines to study how you appear, whether you have the right tone and pitch, and to make sure you are using the proper nonverbal cues that will draw a viewer in.Here is the second tip for landing a role in a commercialEven though it may seem unrelated – joining an improv group is a good way to up your chances at nailing the necessary conciseness of your delivery.  Improv is all about being able to respond on the spot.  It also requires ‘selling’ yourself in a way that some other forms of acting never offer and will help you build your on-the-spot public speaking skills.  Look into groups or workshops in your area and get some experience before you head into an audition room.  Another similar avenue would be to search for Toastmaster opportunities in your area to help you fine tune your speaking skills and building up your confidence in the process. Here is the third tip for landing a role in a commercial.Another tip for making it big in the commercial world is to brush up on your general marketing skills.  Commercials, after all, are advertisements. Gaining a deeper understanding of brand management will allow you to sell better for the company you’re working with while the camera’s rolling.  You may also want to consider taking on the role of a brand ambassador in order to better understand how to best come across as a convincing salesperson.  Commercial acting and brand ambassadorship have a lot of crossover due to the fact that the entertainer is tasked with drawing attention around a product or service.  Doing both simultaneously, so long as there are no conflicts of interest,  can offer some very necessary skill-building opportunities. These are just a few of the simple ways you can better refine your commercial acting skills.  Unlike television or film, remember that commercials are advertisements.  Understanding what it takes to be a good advertiser will ensure that you’ll be a good commercial actor.  When you start to build these skills in every way possible behind-the-scenes, you’ll be sure to nail any role on-screen you land!To learn more tips and tricks for actors and models, feel free to sign up for our next FREE Online Workshop.
