319: Don’t Make These Big Mistakes- Do This Instead This Holiday Season!

Tired of trying to be the holiday superhero while clinging to your last shred of sanity? If you’re the one orchestrating the holiday magic (and probably losing a little hair over it), this one's for you. We’re diving into that festive frenzy where moms end up juggling gift lists, holiday cards, and 27 different kinds of cookies while wondering if there’s enough wine in the world to survive it. Today, we’re serving up some much-needed real talk about setting boundaries and ditching those holiday perfection traps. Forget the Instagram-worthy gingerbread house and focus on what actually brings joy. Spoiler: It’s not the perfectly frosted sugar cookies but maybe letting someone else handle dinner (yes, store-bought counts). And hey, if the thought of one more Christmas card makes you twitch, skip it. This season, we’re all about delegating, saying no, and choosing self-care over burnout. Because let's be honest—your happiness is worth way more than a picture-perfect holiday mantel.  Resources We Shared: Have a million holiday tasks taking up brain space? 303: Grab the Stupid Cup, Dad! Why Assumptions Keep Moms from Catching a Break

In this episode, we dive into the viral “mom marathon cup” moment—yep, the one where the mom, mid-race, is asked to stop and pick up a cup for her kids, while Dad just watches. Brie’s fuming at the dad (like, seriously?), while JoAnn sees it as a teachable moment for everyone involved. We break down the assumptions we make about moms being the default “fixers” and why that needs to change. But it’s not all about the cup! We also share how to teach kids social skills and guide them to make better choices—without you playing the superhero 24/7. Moms, it’s time to ditch the martyr cape and prioritize your well-being while shaping a more balanced family dynamic. Resources We Shared: Join our newsletter! 302: Your Motherhood Burnout Survival Guide: the 5 Key Components of Relationships with Dr. Morgan Cutlip

Strap in for a delightful rollercoaster of emotions in today’s episode as we dive deep into the bustling world of motherhood, relationships, and the secret spices (literally) that make or break our daily interactions.  We’re joined today by Morgan Cutlip, Ph.D., who holds a PhD in Psychology, and is the author of the new book: Love Your Kids Without Losing Yourself: 5 Steps to Banish Guilt and Beat Burnout When You Already Have Too Much to Do. Morgan shares the not-so-sparkly side of motherhood and how it's more teamwork than a solo mission. Husbands, take note: "Get in there" isn't just a suggestion—it's a necessity, especially when toddlers turn life into a full-contact sport!  Switching gears, Morgan breaks down her dad’s legacy and her own work—the Relationship Attachment Model. Imagine your relationship as a stereo equalizer with sliders for 'know', 'trust', 'rely', 'commit', and 'touch'. Morgan encourages all moms (and dads) to know themselves and their needs. She offers up nuggets of wisdom on managing personal needs without turning into a walking mom-zombie of resentment. It's about finding that sweet spot where self-care meets care for others, without losing yourself to the daily grind. This episode isn’t just a podcast; it’s a survival guide, a therapy session, and a coffee chat with a good friend all rolled into one. Tune in, laugh, learn, and maybe even cry a little as we tackle the wild world of motherhood and relationships with humor, empathy, and expert insight. Thank you, JoAnn and Brie, for this insightful podcast episode. Everyone can relate to this episode because we want someone we can go to talk about what is going on. Next time, my son wants to vent, I promise to be a good sounding board and "stay in the hole with him."

Even as adults, we just want one person we can go to let us vent. Next time, my son comes to me with his problems, I will just be a good sounding board and offer a hug at the end of his vent. Thank you, JoAnn and Brie, for this insightful podcast.

I love JoAnn's personality and how friendly she is while making her content understandable, relatable, and doable. I enjoyed this interview with Bethany, with whom I was not familiar previously. Their conversational instruction is a breath of fresh air, as I have often viewed setting boundaries as difficult. I don't want to disappoint people, but I realize I am able to give more when my well-considered boundaries are in place first. Also, they don't have to be rigid and once-for-all, simply effective in this season. Thank you for this episode!
