Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. If you think today's episode is a "diet" episode, think again! We are talking about food for nourishment aside from the macros and micros of food. Barb Sheldon is a food literacy instructor, social activist, podcast host and author who has a profound belief in the therapeutic power of food. This is a conversation about what nourishes us. Barb teaches us about "radical hospitality" and the act of sharing our wisdom with others as what can give us purpose at menopause. Our experience, our wisdom becomes deeply useful for others and what better way to share than around a pot of homemade soup? This conversation was eye-opening and deeply nourishing for me, and I hope you find it the same. You can find out more about Barb Sheldon and her work here and on Instagram here. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. February is Women's Heart Health month and for today's episode, I am joined by the extraordinary Dr. Jayne Morgan, Cardiologist and VP of Medical Affairs at Hello Heart. Heart health for women is a hot topic and Dr. Morgan and I speak about the importance of women being aware of their heart heath throughout life but particularily at menopause. Listen in and learn how your pregnancy experience can predict future heart concerns. Dr. Morgan also tells us exactly how to ask our doctor for necessary tests to keep our heart health in mind. Estrogen affects cardiovascular health and how perimenopause is a time of great change for our heart. We discuss how a heart attack presents for women (hint: it's different from the classic presentation that men can experience!) and what symptoms you shouldn't ignore. These are common symptoms that might make you wonder if you, too, should ask your doctor to check out your heart! You can find more from Dr Jayne Morgan and see her Stairwell Chronicles on IG here. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. What does it take to optimize health at perimenopause and menopause? Dr. Scott Sherr is here to help us sort through the details of making the second half of your life, the best half! Let's prioritize wellness above all else. The root cause of health is quite simple: it's all the things you think it should be - food, movement, sleep, relationships, etc. And it's paying attention to your metabolic and mitochondrial health. We might here these words thrown around but do we really know what to do to help ourselves? Dr Scott Sherr suggests we can set the disease aside and optimize our health measures. We talk about methylene blue for our mitochondria (think: brain fog, low energy, sleep issues, sluggish detox and more) and I am all in on this health-hack (check out Troscriptions link below for where I get my methylene blue), and I bet you will be too! Scott suggests we act as a bridge between medicine and alternative medicine, opening up the information access for all. Find out more about Dr Scott Sherr here. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. A critically important issue on the show today - women’s rights in the workplace especially in our menopause transition years. Many symptoms can derail our best efforts at work when we are perimenopausal, and often we can find ourselves not at our best. But what protections do we have? Today, I speak with Jack Tucker and Catherine Crider - women’s rights in the workplace attorneys and women’s rights advocates. Did you know 20% of the workforce in America is between 40-65? You aren't alone if you feel unable to complete your job in the same way you always have! Asking for accommodations can feel hard, but might be easier than you think. Listen in to learn where and how to advocate for yourself, and where your protections may lie. Catherine and Jack shares tips on how to ask for accommodations at work for those menopause symptoms. Don't quit, they say. You can demand fair treatment and equality in the workplace. You can find out more about Jack and Catherine’s work here - womensrightsny.com. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. Many of us have heard that magnesium is important for our health, but have we heard why? Dr. Greg Kelly returns to the show in this episode to discuss the powerhouse of magnesium. Turns out, you cannot go wrong by adding magnesium to your supplements! More than 50% of us are deficient and the kind of magnesium you want to supplement with, can be confusing. Not all magnesium is the same and the bioavailability makes a huge difference. We discuss the role of magnesium in aging hallmarks, in energy production, in brain health and menstrual health too. Magnesium protects us from the effects of chronic stress too. Dr. Kelly and I also discuss the role of Akkermansia in the microbiome of people who have smaller bodies and whether therapy with it can help solve the conundrum of weight for some of us. This is an exciting development! Greg also shares the updates to cellular senescence - cellular aging, the right cutting edge of anti-aging medicine. We talk about muscle stem cells and more. When Susie Stonefield emailed us and said "I make people cry with art supplies" we knew we had to follow up and ask questions! Susie is a Creativity and Grief Coach, and teaches us how to art journal; using art supplies to help us express the feelings we cannot necessarily put words to. Something she calls "the wordless heart". Susie gives us permission to kindness, to compassion and to treat ourselves gently. Grief is an obstruction, Susie teaches us. And it prevents us from finding balance, and experiencing the lovely parts of life often. We shared our own experiences in this conversation - grief, midlife, holding on tight to keep the wheels on the bus, like so many of you. I know you will find yourself and sweet relief in this beautiful conversation, just like I did. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. Today I am joined by Caroline Alan, Mineral Enthusiast and passionate advocate for healthy humans! Caroline brings her excitement and deep knowledge of cellular function and the fuel required to feel good to the show. We talk about minerals, mitochondria, chronic health issues, and much more. And specifically, how women get mineral depleted and how we can rectify this. If you have ever wanted to know what all the fuss was about glyphosate, Caroline breaks it down in a way that will leave you shocked and wondering how something like this can be approved for mass market. Our bodies don't make minerals, so we have to consume them via our diet. But can we actually absorb them if our gut health isn't great? On top of that, our food often arrives to our table depleted itself! How do we correct all of this? Listen in as Caroline tells all. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. A very timely topic on the show today - women and tesosterone therapy at menopause. Not just a hormone for the guys, testosterone is a crucial part of the HRT picture for women. When we are cycling, we make a huge amount of testosterone, but we don't hear about that as much as we hear about estrogen and progesterone. I am speaking with Dr. Susan Hardwick-Smith - a gynecologist with a specialty practice in menopause care in Houston, Texas. She is a certified menopause practitioner and the Founder of the Complete Midlife Wellness Center. She is also a podcaster, author and triathlete. Testosterone therapy is helpful for bone and muscle health, moods and mental health and sexual health for men and women! There is some controversy with this topic as the FDA doesn't yet have an approved for women testosterone product! It's not just a male hormone. Listen in to learn all about this helpful hormone for women in the menopause transition. You can find out more about Dr. Susan Hardwick-Smith on her website and on Instagram @completemidlifewellness. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. Please join us for this lighthearted and fun conversation with The Comic Coach, Em Stroud. Em is Leadership and Business Coach, a podcaster, an author, and a theatre and comedy show performer who is premiering her one woman show in London's West End in December of 2024 before a UK tour in 2025. Em and I spoke about the importance of play and fun. We forget how to play as adults, but Em shares a story of her son and his reminders to play daily were a wake up call for her. This is one of my favourite conversations of the year! I learned so much about myself and my methods of play through the eyes of Em (and her swell play permissions!) Tune in to learn about that for yourself. How DO you play? Em shares the 12 ways we play as humans and how you can find freedom and recognition in how you already play (even if you don't think you do!). Wise, funny and full of useful info, you will enjoy this episode as much as I did. 🩵 You can find out more about Em Stroud on her website - emstroud.com. Follow Em on Instagram here. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. Cooking, wildfire smoke, pollution, fragrance and mold. Things I didn't think would ever be discussed much on the NYMM podcast, but in doing the research for this interview with Mike Feldstein, I realized, I have been remiss by not discussing the effects of these things on our overall health. Addressing these things in our home environment can make massive change when we don't feel great. Mike Feldstein is an Air Quality expert and has decades of experience working in restoration and remediation. He brings this expertise to the table along with some very interesting stories. In a study that JASPR did recently, monitoring the group of 125 people with sleep trackers, he found that when the bedroom air was clean and filtered, the participants fell asleep quicker, had 18% deeper sleep and 25% more sleep. Mike calls clean air "sleep fuel" and he is onto something there. Listen in to this fascinating conversation to learn more to get better sleep and optimize your health! You can find out more about Mike Feldstein and JASPR @jasprco and at Jasper.co. In case you missed it, JASPR is $400 off for listeners of the show until November 11, 2024 using the code LOVELY. Dr. Fiona Lovely is a longevity, health and wellness expert with specialties in menopause medicine, functional neurology and functional medicine. She is speaking to the topics of women's health around perimenopause and menopause. Andrea Donsky is returning to the show today for a discussion on her upcoming event - The Power of Menopause being held virtually on October 25, 2024. She is also with us to chat about her recent experience at The Menopause Society annual conference, presenting her research to the esteemed members in attendance. Andrea and her company wearemorphus.com collect data via free surveys that anyone can take. Through the data collected, we are starting to get a much more clear and different picture of what actually happens at perimenopause, with our sleep in peri, and how our doctors are treating us when we present for care. The results will surprise you (but probably not shock you). 40% of women are dismissed by their doctor without help for meno symptoms. And there is much more to this conversation! Andrea walks us through the top 10 symptoms of the perimenopause transition (hint: hot flashes dont show up until number 10!) and what we can do to help with these symptoms. Additionally, Andrea tells us there are 103 symptoms associated with menopause. It's so much more than we were taught! Please listen, learn and share. Find out more about the Morphus supplements (I adore the Fibreus and Sleepus!) Andrea mentions right here. Find out more about Andrea Donsky on IG and Tiktok @andreadonsky. Unfortunately they lost me when they claimed 5g technology gave me my Hashi mottos disease. Sad that the podcast is promoting fake news, hysteria, and conspiracy theories as real science and medical help. They followed it up with the advice of, "Google it", to learn more....gee like that isn't problematic and why they didn't bother mentioning the realistic possiblity of asking your medically trained doctor to learn more is telling. Unfortunately I am going to unsubscribe from this podcast. Sad, because I think their should be more information and discussions about women's health, aging, hormones, perimenopause, and menopause. Bummer.
i don't have FB but hope this reaches you. your cast has been very helpful oh, I will also need to go back and listen to some of the episodes over and sure I'm compare. I have not listened to all of the episodes but I would be interested in understanding how menopause may be different when it is triggered by a medical procedure like a bilateral oophorectomy when both of the ovaries are removed. any insight you can provide would be extremely helpful.
