Our focus is to address professional practice gaps and issues important to primary care physicians. This is a podcast version of our webcast series produced through our MedNet21 CME series. Each year we provide 40 weekly CME webcasts for our 10 month season, and programs are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from anywhere in the world. You can watch MedNet21 webcasts on-line to get CME credit or MOC points today. Each post-test costs $25 for those that would like to earn CME credit or MOC points. This program will cover a biopsychosocial approach to chronic back pain. The first presenter will discuss multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary treatment approaches to chronic low back pain. She will then discuss some of the common medications used for treatment. The next presenter will discuss the role of psychology/psychotherapy in treatment for chronic low back pain, with a particular emphasis on how psychology providers work with others in an interdisciplinary treatment team. Finally, the last presenter will discuss various strategies for treating patients with chronic low back pain to improve their overall function, coping, mobility, and quality of life.

This program will discuss Breast Cancer Therapies. In the first half of the presentation, the presenter will review the incidence, risk factors, & treatments associated with breast cancer. Then the presenter will focus on systemic therapies such as endocrine therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapies and immunotherapies for breast cancer. In the second half, the presenter will discuss the presentations of breast cancer before focusing in on the role of radiation therapy for breast cancer.

This program will discuss Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. This presentation will first discuss the approach and diagnosis to lymphocytosis. It will use case presentations to highlight the presentation and evaluation of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The presenter will also review complications and health maintenance implications for CLL. The second half of the talk will discuss staging and risk stratification. The presenter will review the rationale for observation and indications for treatment as well as the various different treatment options and their associated side effects.

This program will discuss Common Poisonings and Toxidromes. In this session, learners will review the epidemiology of poisonings across the lifespan, with an emphasis on recent trends. We will introduce a practical framework for evaluating the poisoned patient and review common toxidromes relevant to clinical practice. Participants will develop their skills in recognizing key signs of toxicity to initiate timely, evidence-based management.

This program will discuss Approach to Chronic Diarrhea. This presentation will provide a structured approach to evaluating chronic diarrhea, emphasizing the importance of a through clinic history to help identify and differentiate between potential causes. Learners will review key elements of the diagnostic workup that can help rule out organic disease in over 95% of patients. The session will also cover common treatment options tailored to functional diarrhea.

This program will discuss Pulmonary Function Testing & Office Based Spirometry. In the first half of the program, learners will gain an understanding of the key updates in the 2022 ATS/ERS pulmonary function test (PFT) guidelines. We will discuss how these revisions differ from the 2005 standards in areas such as test interpretation, reference values, and diagnostic criteria. In the second half viewers should expect to learn key updates in PFT interpretation, including the impact of the new reference standards and revised criteria for classifying severity of impairments and bronchodilator responsiveness. Learners will also appreciate common physiologic impairments on PFTs and develop an approach to interpreting PFTs.

This webcast will discuss Cancer Genetics. This webcast will go over some of the most common genetic cancer associations including breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and colorectal cancer. The presenters will also review the indications for genetic testing, the different aspects of genetic counseling, and expectations with testing results. Viewers will also learn about several different hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes, as well as important considerations for clinical germline evaluation.

This webcast will discuss Elder Abuse and Neglect. Learners should be able to identify the different types of elder abuse and develop a plan to address concerns. The program will discuss the vulnerability of the elderly population as it pertains to elder abuse and the existence of elder abuse in its many forms. It will also cover how medical professionals assess for and report elder abuse. Participants will also learn about types of elder abuse/neglect; the difference between neglect vs self-neglect; the process for submitting a Adult Protective Services (APS) referral; and various community resources available to elderly patients.

This lecture will discuss Dual Diagnosis treatment. First the presenter will discuss the definition and epidemiology of dual diagnosis as well as addiction and substance use disorder. Then the presenter will go through various presentations of substance use and withdrawal and how that can mimic mental health conditions. Finally, the presenter will discuss how to identify dual diagnosis and discuss management.

This webcast will discuss Treatment of Prostate Cancer. The learners should expect to understand how localized prostate cancer is managed as per current guidelines. The talk will cover practice from clinical workup to multimodal treatment options. This includes data on treatment trends and long-term efficacy. The bulk of the talk will focus on how physicians can approach the conversation of increasing physical activity during an appointment and use motivational interviewing techniques to engage patients in exercise.

This program will discuss Transitioning from Pediatric to Adult Care. The transition from pediatric to adult health care is a complex process, particularly for adolescents and young adults with chronic health conditions and intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this presentation, learners will expand their understanding of the transition process, with particular attention on the roles of doctors caring for young adults in the transition process and get an introduction to skills and resources that can support young adults as they enter adult health care.
