He teaches media, and at the moment, he's putting an emphasis on mobile filmmaking, which might be surprising to you for a media teacher at a major high school. He has a background in production at ESPN for many years. And he left ESPN and moved to St. Louis, where he began taking a lot of courses and getting qualified to teach at both high school and the college level. Steve, thank you for being here with us. You were at ESPN for many years, and I've heard that many, many times. I'm really curious about what you did there and what your specialty was. Well, thank you so much, first of all, for having me. We were on a panel together in Final Cut Pro.  Yeah, it was fun.  Amazing experience, but also like being on that panel with such distinguished folks. And then, like, clearly everyone knew you. And I was like, "This is amazing. I can't wait to have this conversation." Because everyone respected what you do, so you were there. And thank you so much for sharing this space because this is an exciting time for education. It really is a dynamic time. And I think it's great. And they said, "Yeah, come on in, we'll do it," after a two-hour interview, it was insane. No benefits, and the highest cost of living state in the country, in Connecticut at the time. And it was sink or swim for six months. And so I learned from the best how to be able to cu...

Zach Arnold's editing career was on overdrive. His work on shows such as Cobra Kai, Glee, and Burn Notice was garnering him major awards, including an Emmy. But he was working around the clock, had limited time with family, and the many hours sitting in a dark room on the computer had wreaked havoc with his health and his body. For some, maybe, but not for Zach,. He has an invaluable quality, consistency. A personal note about Dan Kneece (RIP) from your OWC RADiO Host, Cirina Catania. "The world lost a wonderful person last week. Dan Kneece was loved by all of us in the entertainment industry. He worked tirelessly and with a great attitude. Ask Dan what is most important and he would say, "I work for the script and the director." Words are hard to find right now, but I wanted to share this interview I did with him back in July of 2019. May you find the love in it and may it help you to savor every moment of your lives. Because every day counts, and the friends you leave behind will remember you for how you made them feel and in Dan's case, also what they learned from you." (Cirina Catania, August 25, 2021) Dan Kneece On Set (Courtesy Dan Kneece) Cinematographer Dan Kneece worked with some of the world’s most iconic directors, including David Lynch, Wes Craven, Quentin Tarantino, and Joel Schumacher. Dan Kneece’s secrets were revealed in this interview with OWC RADiO Host, Cirina Catania. We hope you will enjoy these words from someone we all loved. I am speaking today with Dan Kneece, who was a longtime Steadicam operator and now a cinematographer. We call them DPs in our business. And, Dan, I’m so happy to talk to you on the air because you’re just a rarity in this town. And welcome to the show. Thank you very much for having me.  We have so much to talk about. Let’s just start almost at the beginning, and I like asking people what they liked to do when they were 5, 6, 7 years old. What were you like as a little boy, and what was life for you growing up? I grew up in the small town of Black Hill, South Carolina. It had a population of about 2000 people and was surrounded by swamps and alligators, and it’s 10 miles from Barnwell, South Carolina, where James Brown was born. In 14 miles, another side of that is a little town called Allendale, where Jasper Johns grew up. I think what really happened in the area, people are saying this must have been something in the water. But I think really, what happens is so darn boring down there that if you have a creative urge, you got to figure out a way to get it out, or you’re going to go nuts. You need time to be creative. And I think in a busy life in the cities,

What better way to spend it than by interviewing the CEO and founder of OWC, Mr. Larry O'Connor. Respected worldwide for his numerous accomplishments in the world of technology, Larry remains modest, personable, and dedicated to making his company and the world a better place for all of us. In fact, in 2020, he was named one of the top CEOs on comparably a list of 50 that was called from over 10 million ratings across 60,000 organizations.  I spoke with him about his rise to success from the early days as a tech-oriented team to the start of OWC, which was bootstrapped and remains privately owned even today. We talked about how he has achieved his success, his hiring and firing challenges, establishing a workable structure for a multinational corporation, and his long-standing president, Jen Soule.  Success in the tech industry follows a similar path to most major corporations. However, in this last year, there have been serious challenges—tax rates fluctuating, supply chains disrupted, and many more. In the middle of all of this, however, Larry O'Connor and his company have found the time and resources to help others—from Nashville musicians, to films with strong environmental messages, to charitable organizations that work toward making a better world. An avid follower and lover of space technology, I suspect we'll be getting communiqués from a spaceship in the not too distant future.

I'm so happy you're with us. I want to talk to you today about Camera to Cloud, Frame.io, post houses of the future, where we're going. I think this is going to be awesome. It's always fun talking with you. So welcome. Thank you for having me. Like you said, we've known each other for years and been doing this a long time. I'm always happy to be back with you and always happy to talk to the listeners where we want the feedback because what we're going to talk about today involves everybody. We're looking forward to more communication with the community.  It does. When you announced it, there was an immediate reaction in the industry about what you had presented. There is just a huge audience for this in media producers worldwide no matter what you're in. I think you really are going to change the future. For people who don't know, what is Frame.io and what is Camera to Cloud? Frame.io is an online review and approval database. It's the most popular professional review and approval tool in the world. We have over a million people uploading millions of assets a day into the platform and sharing them, reviewing them, marking them, and delivering them. It's a really interactive space—professional video sharing and collaboration—in the Cloud. Camera to Cloud is now a new feature set of Frame.io where we can actually have people on the set, in the field, and shooting directly into Frame.io, so that you can have access to everything you're doing, even deliver it right to an editor while it's still being shot in the process. Shoot directly into Frame.io. You make it sound easy. I know this didn't happen overnight. How long have you been working on this in the background? The answer is about 10 years. A good friend of mine, Laura Pursley, said after we announced that she goes, “You've been working on this for 10 years.” She's like, “This is your life's work. You've been gunning for this for a decade.” When she said that I released a lot because I think she's right. But essentially, this technology, Frame.io didn't invent the idea of Camera to Cloud. We're not the first people that whisper it into the market. There's a lot of people that have been trying it,

This edition of OWC RADiO comes to you during the height of the COVID-19 virus quarantines. At times like this, we are able to spend more time with family, tackle projects around the house, cook, garden, play music or sing, check social media. Many of us are reading more and one of the most popular genres is classical Western fiction. Host, Cirina Catania, catches up with John Moore, an award-winning journalist, popular best-selling novelist, photographer, cowboy, rancher, and minister. Although on the surface this might be considered a departure from our "regular" programming, which is normally about tech and the creativity that drives it, this interview is about courage, perseverance, and honesty. All qualities that make us better storytellers. And since that is our end goal, we share this conversation with you. A third-generation Montana rancher and cowboy, John's work is noted for his authenticity and vivid descriptions of life in the Western United States. John grew up on a cattle ranch but left it to pursue life on the road during the "hippie" era. What he learned and what he brought back shortly before his father died, resonates with millions of readers who want to know more about life. He is a storyteller, who keeps history, tall tales and true stories of ranchers and cowboys alive. Some of his most known books include The Breaking of Ezra Riley, The Land of Empty Houses and Looking for Lynne, which won the silver medal in the 2015 Will Rogers Medallion Award for Western Fiction. John was recently inducted into the 2019 class of the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage, a nod shared with Pulitzer Prize winner Dorothy Johnson ("A Man Called Horse"), Pulitzer Prize winner A.B. Guthrie Junior and Norman McLean ("A River Runs Through It") among others. It's been a bumpy road with lots of trail dust, but the inspiration gets us off our straight and narrow. ABOUT THIS EPISODE In today's episode, OWC RADiO host Cirina Catania, talks to Slovenian journalist and film critic Damijan Vinter, who gives us his take on this year's Berlin International Film Festival (the Berlinale). Here are his must-see movies and his impressions of this year’s films in competition. Celebrating its 70th year, the Berlin International Film Festival has once again confirmed its status as one of the world's leading film festivals: 342 festival films, 330,000 sold tickets, and 22,000 industry professionals from 133 countries. Damijan Vinter shares his impressions of the best feature films, including the winner of the Golden Bear, “There Is No Evil,” a drama from the Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof centering on true stories of the people behind the scenes who carry out executions in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Rasoulof, has had many run-ins with the Iranian government since 2010, and was banned from filmmaking. He has now been sentenced to one-year in prison due to films which the Iranian authorities found to be "propaganda against the system." As of this writing, Rasoulof is refusing to turn himself in. An appeal is planned. If you missed this year's Berlinale, or just want to learn more about the films that were in competition in 2020, listen in to Damijan's recommendations and insights. First of all, because I saw the last competition movie. It was this Iranian film, Sheytan Vojud Nadarad to which is like There is no Evil. I just saw it yesterday, and it was the best and most beautiful film ever in the competition. And you know the feeling when you see the best movie at the end of all this traveling? I was so touched that I skipped another screening, which I have tickets for. That evening, I realized that it was the film they gave the Golden Bear to. Host, Cirina Catania, catches up with OWC’s owner, Larry O’Connor, to get the inside, under the hood skinny on how to configure your order for a new Mac Pro from Apple. Jump to Links and Resources Transcript Okay, we are rolling. This is Cirina Catania with OWC Radio. I have Mr. OWC on the line, Larry O'Connor, the CEO, and founder of Other World Computing. We got a lot to talk about today. Don't we, Larry? Yeah, we always do, always lots going on in the world of technology. Yeah, there is. So I wanted to talk to you because I'm getting a lot of questions about configuring the new Mac Pro. And I know that OWC has solutions that can help us get more of what we need for less money than we can get on the Apple Store. And as much as I love Apple, I do trust OWC's memories, so I thought maybe we could take a minute and go through what a customer would need to know when they're buying the Mac Pro and how OWC can help with all that. How about that? In the Apple Store, you're going to pay a big premium, but I would never, certainly not today, question Apple's quality. Aftermarket, there's a lot of variabilities, and I would argue a lot more risk in that department. And now, we're glad to be certainly certified with all of our products with extensive testing and actual ownership of machines to ensure ongoing quality when it comes to memory. For memory, I have to recommend anything that's upgradeable from Apple, buying the absolute minimum that you can purchase and then be able to upgrade with OWC in this particular case. It literally saves you thousands, even under the smaller memory upgrades. It's a huge saving and to get effectively the same quality of product and a warranty that is lifetime versus just a year on AppleCare extended. And the memory in the Mac Pro Apple, the set is user upgradeable. They even had instructions up, which I believe at this point, they cranked. They had a mistake in how they tell people where to put the additional memory, but that was early on and taken care of.  Nonetheless, it is a user-supported upgrade. We tell you where to put it, and we tell you the right place, we'll show it in a video, so easy to do and then great savings.
