In this episode, I brainstorm a couple of ideas that I've learned about composition in Jazz from some artists that I've been checking out recently, and also spend a bunch of time showing some of my exercises using a Twelve Tone Row

Have a lovely day
Note: Most of the smaller noteheads (that aren't slides) are open strings that I felt were not exactly part of the lines Chris was playing. They either sounded like they were ringing out from him playing other notes, or were played because of the momentum of him moving his pick back and forth.
Nevertheless, I tried to included as many of them as were necessary.
If you spot any mistakes, let me know, and I'll write a note in the comments.

A quick note on the transcription:
Some of the chords in the left hand are notated with smaller noteheads. I did it this way because the comping drops in volume pretty dramatically, making it sound like they're overdubs. It is possible that Mehldau has god-tier dynamic control with his left hand, but some of the comping definitely sound like overdubs.

Here's a transcription of Julian's great playing on a single from his newest album 'Love Hurts'.
I'd highly recommend you use this transcription as a starting point for understanding the playing on this track, as Lage's phrasing, articulation, and dynamics are really something else, and it's hard to do it justice in sheet music.
If you spot any mistakes, let me know, and I'll try to fix them with annotations.

I also talk about using melodic ideas as harmony, the fact that I sleep on the floor now, and remember what the chords for Someday My Prince Will Come are.

Ahoy! I survived my fearful adventures at sea. The most terrifying part being all the uptempo samba tunes I had to learn. Nevertheless, I have returned with some helpful tips for your first cruise gig. Some performance related, some theory related, but the more general tips I have I went over in a blog post you can find below.

Hey so, long time. I've been on a mad hiatus for some months, but I'm bringing it back. In this brief, and likely underwhelming podcast, I talk about the future of Gettin' Hip, and what I'm going to be focusing on/doing moving forward.

Testing out my Godin guitar. As you may be able to tell, I haven't had a guitar with a tremolo system in years, and had a field day (or night) with this one.

Have you ever noticed how many fullstops there are in the title of this song. Way too many, Coltrane. Way too many.
Anyway, here's a flamenco arrangement of the classic song off the album 'Giant Steps' by John Coltrane. Enjoy!

If I reach 10 patrons, I'll upload a video of myself trying to do a no handed cartwheel, even though I haven't done it for years and am kinda scared I'll faceplant.
