On this episode, Pranav and Rish sit down with Maya Hazarika to discuss the broad topic of their Indian roots. This conversation includes growing up first generation Indian American, Indian representation in American media, what the future may hold for Indian Americans, and connections to our Indian culture, with the back half of the episode centered around caste oppression in India in comparison to racial oppression in the states. The episode is equal parts serious and lighthearted, and Maya drops quite a few knowledge bombs on us so make sure to listen close!
In this episode, we dive into the toxicity of masculinity. A term that is often talked about but not fully understood fully by most people, toxic masculinity has become a staple in societal standards. We take a look at commonplace phrases that are highkey toxic and progressive cultural references like Young Thug's dress and Harry Styles' nails. (Trigger Warning: There are segments of this episode that touch on abuse, coercion, and violence; feel free to pause and come back if you need to)
One of the "deepest" episodes Odd Fish has ever done? You bet. Along with our new guest, Cole Bennette, we dig deep into the concept of interesectionality and how it has played out over the last few decades in terms of race, sexuality, gender, and more. Investigating how intersectionality has manifested itself in the current social/political/environmental climate, we understand our own place within the social heirarchy. Please don't cancel us for statements made in this episode :)
In this episode, we dive into the origins and ideology behind the "Creative Industry". As architecture students and creative individuals, we resonate with the idea of the Creative Industry, so this episode is aimed at anyone who feels they have a creative side to them; whether it be music, movies, cooking, arts or anything else. We've got straight facts on how the Creative Industries affect our economy and how we can overturn the "starving artist" stereotype. Overall, a lighthearted, uplifting episode! (BTW, Don't forget to vote folks!)
