Description

A look into the lives of professional Indycar drivers, reality television stars, and great friends James Hinchcliffe and Alexander Rossi. Though Hinch and Rossi have seen plenty of success on the track, the show is meant to highlight their off-the-track lives, including their unfiltered opinions on what’s trending in popular culture, with each episode featuring a number of recurring, unscripted segments and an interview with a celebrity guest. Off Track is at heart a sports show, but Hinch and Rossi are well-versed in popular culture and have experience relating to influential figures across a variety of disciplines. The interviews consist of athletes, artists, and entrepreneurs -- really anyone with a passion for what they do, regardless of what that is. This is the first original production from CastBox.

Thanksgiving

It's been a while since we've done one of these, but given that it's Thanksgiving (in America, at least), we thought we should take a minute to reflect on everything we're thankful for this year.+++Follow us on Twitter at @askofftrack. Hinch and Rossi are in the same place, because -well- they're kind of roommates at the moment. The guys talk about one of the most controversial topics of our time, breakfast food. Then, after a long break, we have a grinds my gears again, and shocker, it's about twitter... again. Lastly, the guys talk about Laguna Seca, and the end of the 2019 series.+++Follow us on Twitter at @askofftrack. The Un-Luck-y Episode

The guys are back! Hinch has lost his mic again (he suspects foul play). After Pocono and St. Louis, it's easy to see why the guys might not be feeling too lucky. They talk about where they both are in the season, and what they're looking forward to. Then, they wrap up the episode with their opinions on the news of Andrew Luck's retirement, and the blow back from the fans.+++Follow us on Twitter at @askofftrack. The One About the Wedding

The One About the Wedding

Nice gear, cool mics, and the best software can all -sometimes- fail. So, this episode is brought to you by our back-up recording equipment. The guys talk about where they are in the season, then James talks about this biggest news facing him at this point in the year. Not the McLaren news, his wedding.
James and Alex (er... Alexander) talk about unsolicited twitter advice, and how they deal with criticism online. Next up, Alex sat down with Olympic Figure Skater, Adam Rippon, before his two-seater ride to start the Toronto Grand Prix. To wrap the episode up, Alex and James talk about where they are in the season after Iowa, what they expect from Mid-Ohio and the rest of the races, and James' upcoming wedding.+++Follow us on Twitter at @askofftrack. The guys are all together again! They talk about where they are in the season, then welcome the very special guest, Robert Wickens. They talk about Robbie's return to a racetrack, before Alex and Thim definitively win the argument about the absurdity of Canadian money (in a non-controversial way). Then James and Robbie talk about the importance of the Toronto race to them.+++Follow us on Twitter at @askofftrack. Rossi's enjoying a well earned break, but Hinch and Thim recap Road America, and talk about where the season stands, now. Then, author (and brother of Hinch), Christopher Hinchcliffe joins the show to talk about the application of rules in F1, and dives in a discussion about what the role of the stewards should be, and how rules should be applied. We dive into the weeds a bit on this one, so we hope the real racing fans will enjoy it!+++Follow us on Twitter at @askofftrack. Jim Leo and Some Race Recaps

Hinch is taking a much needed, mid-season, vacation, so Alex and Thim check in from Indianapolis. A lot has happened since we last talked, so we recap the Indy 500, both Detroit races, and Texas. A lot of people are curious about what it takes for a driver to stay in shape to race in IndyCar, so we sat down with PitFit's own, Jim Leo to go into the methods behind the madness. Our 2nd annual Carb Day Live Show! We sat down at the Honda Fan Zone, in the in-field at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! First, Chris Perkins is in the medical field, and won the chance to join us on the podcast at Hinch's Stop and Go Foundation Charity Auction, which was great for us, because he's an awesome guest! Next up, we have the star of bump day, Kyle Kaiser, giving his take on that storybook run. During the Kaiser interview, NBC jumped on stage, and broke in during their live "NASCAR America" live broadcast. Robert Wickens

Robert Wickens

2019-03-1400:32:126

Rossi is prepping for Sebring, but Hinch is on vacation with Marco Andretti and Robbie Wickens so Thim calls in for a chat with Robbie {Marco's napping}, and Thim is asking the important questions. (00:01 - 04:03). Not doing a breakdown of this conversation, Hinch and Robbie talk about the realities of Robbie's life post-injury, his recovery, his plans for the future, and what they can both relate to having gone through serious accidents, plus we do a shameless plug for Conor Daly and Jim Ayello's new podcast {link below ;-) } so listen without the cliffnotes (04:04 - 30:45). Thim plugs another podcast he went on about being a single father {Mother F***ers: A Parenting Podcast!} (30:46-31:24) Credits (31:25 - 32:12).+++Follow us on Twitter at @askofftrack. The guys enjoy their breakfast, and a distinct lack of Thim, who is missing this week {spoiler alert, he's asleep/hungover} (00:01 - 02:40). The guys talk about Thim's unexpected skills at Monopoly, and other weird jobs you can get out there (02:41 - 10:00). Alex talks about how much he's been testing in Sebring lately, which leads to the guys discussing the highlights of their careers so far, and what they expect in the upcoming season (10:01 - 22:28). The guys talk about what's going on outside of racing, and James has some important wedding news for Alex (22:29 - 29:07). Outro and credits (29:08 - 29:58).+++Follow us on Twitter at @askofftrack. Hinch, Rossi, and Thim are back, though all remotely from separate cities, so excuse some issues with the audio (00:01 - 01:10). Alex recaps his time at Dayton, Hinch talks about his time at the NHL All-Star game, and the guys discuss what an IndyCar All-Star event would comprise of (01:11 - 07:05). Hinch talks about the one thing Thim does that he actually likes (07:06 - 11:30). We're back with Conor Daly, and he's here to talk about his Indy 500 ride (11:31 - 19:25). Also, in Conor news, he's fixed his old Subaru [WHAT SHOULD CONOR NAME HIS CAR?! LET US KNOW ON TWITTER!] (19:26 - 26:38). San Jose

2019-01-3100:44:232

Hinch wants Thim to fly to San Jose to join him at the Honda NHL All-Star Game, but Thim can't fly out with only a day's notice (00:01 - 01:11). Just kidding, Thim literally hopped on a plane the next day, and flew to San Jose (01:12 - 01:43). Rossi's racing in Daytona, so it's just James and Thim this week, as guests of Honda at the NHL All-Star Game, and they're interviewing people in a 2019 Honda Passport, inside the Fan Village (01:44 - 05:11). The first guest to jump in the car with James is Dan Rusanowsky, the voice of the San Jose Sharks, and occasional INDYCAR Radio commentator (05:12 - 19:44). Next is Thomas Chabot, an All-Star player from the Ottawa Senators (19:45 - 29:25). Last, but certainly not least, Hinch's new teammate, Marcus Ericsson, chats hockey, IndyCar, and even plays a fun game with James and Thim (29:26 - 43:32). Hey Hinch....heard the news today about the SPAM team driver line-up. Not surprised, as I don't believe you wanted to be there. Honda is your bread and butter, and you have certainly made them a great representative and spokesman. I hope what I believe is true and that you will be announced as the third can in RLL Racing. I refuse to believe that you won't be in the upcoming season in a top-notch ride. Seriously, all of the best racing luck to you in the world my friend.

As for Bathurst. You likely know but iRacing.com has both the track and Supercars modelled and both are a blast. Highly recommended .

As for Pocono, it was Sato's fault, end of story. I would love to see the cars back there and the solution is to institute a first lap yellow at turn 2. Back in the day, I witnessed Patrick Carpentier win the CART race at Laguna and it was spectacular, although passing was at a minimum. I hope you both have great good fortune there in 19.

Great episode but as one of the 10,000 I am very concerned that Timothy let Al and Jimmy get away without talking about their real highschool nicknames. That could have been fun. To all exhibit great skill at Mid O and to Reba and Jimmy and all their friends have a great wedding day and may you continue to find joy in your union.

Happy to have a Canadian episode, eh. Also happy that both boys finished well at what was a very tough race in Toronto. As a native I would like to see the circuit paved and smoothed out but it might take away from the unique nature of the race. I have a question for a future episode. Can you describe how driver styles differ? Presumable everyone knows the racing line and so on so how do top drivers' styles differ? It has to be do to different braking techniques? Would love to know.

The Philosophy episode was one of the best yet, demonstrating the depth of thought to which the Hinches are capable. I found it fascinating. It does raise a question in my mind. In the past some drivers have become winners without bringing a lot of intelectual ability to the task. The question then is: Can a driver overthink the sport or are they best to just react instinctively so long as smart people on the team support them? Another train of thought that was brought to mind is: What is the ultimate purpose of indycar racing or any motorsport for that matter. As an amateur track driver I believe that all drivers and most team members would do this even if there were no fans present. They possibly couldn't afford to do it but they would want to. Doesn't that mean thet the purpose of motorsport is to entertain, not only the drivers and team people, but also the fans and sponsors? Discuss.

A really amazingly good episode. I can't believe just how "matter of fact" these guys are about their very serious accidents, taking about them like they happened to someone else at times. Maybe it's a big part of the job to compartmentalize these things and focus only on the future but it is still a remarkable and rare skill. I was mesmerized by everything.
