This week, we're looking at an important topic in the world of royalties: private copying. This topic is very important for music creators to be aware of, as Canada only has private copying levies on outdated technology and has not kept up with new developments in technology. Lisa Freeman from the Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC) offered her insights and explained what private copying is, what the CPCC does, and why Canada's Copyright Act needs to be updated to keep up with technological innovation. I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did!  Follow CPCC and subscribe to their mailing list to stay informed and #StandOnGuardForMusic: https://mailchi.mp/8a45c01f8a06/cpccmailinglist https://www.facebook.com/cpcc.scpcp/ https://www.instagram.com/cpcc.scpcp/ If you have any questions for Lisa from CPCC, feel free to email her directly: lfreeman@cpcc.ca Cover art by CPCC If you enjoyed the episode, please subscribe to OffKey and leave us a rating and review on iTunes! https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/offkey/id1450403128?mt=2 Get in touch, we'd love to hear from you! This week, we’re tackling a pressing topic at a time like this: how artists are adjusting in the context of COVID-19. For musicians, artists, tour teams, and other team members, the economic disruption caused by COVID-19 has led to cancellations and postponements of virtually all gigs, tours, and festivals for at least the next couple months.  This has resulted in a major upheaval in both music creators’ ability to earn a living and the music industry at large. Without in-person live shows, artists are now facing a new trajectory for how to engage with their audiences, and many are turning to one particular online tool: livestreaming. I had the pleasure of speaking with Juno-award winning artist Dan Mangan and emerging artist Kubla about how their adapting and utilizing livestreaming as artists. I hope you enjoy our conversations as much as I did! This week, we're featuring an interview with Mateo Palmisano, a writer, recording and mixing engineer, producer, composer and music production educator who has over a decade of experience working on both the recording side and composition side of music across North America and beyond. Mateo’s commitment to creating accessible educational content aligns so well with the goal of OffKey, so I decided it would be fitting to feature his interview in its own episode. We talked about record deals, composing for other artists, accessible technological tools, and how to build oneself up as a small business in a highly competitive music industry.  For listeners in Toronto, Mateo will be leading a 6-part workshop series at the Richview Toronto Public Library starting on November 12th, 2019. You'll learn how to use a Digital Audio Workstation as well as how to produce, record, mix and master your own music, and distribute and market your record. This week on OffKey I’m chatting with Lisa Logutenkow, Vice President of Bedlam Music Management and Dine Alone Records, and the Vice President of The Orchard Canada, a music distribution company. From studying sciences at The University of Toronto to managing artists such as Alexisonfire, Bedouin Soundclash, and City and Colour, Lisa has had such an incredible career in the music industry and so many wonderful stories to share! I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did.  Check out our show notes for more!  https://medium.com/@l.arnold/offkey-season-2-episode-10-lisa-logutenkow-dine-alone-records-bedlam-music-management-the-orchard-canada-89d2d9389517  Find Lisa at...
