Description

In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the oldest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake.

To be a wolf is a thing of spring loaded joy, of black gummed panting death. Of pack and ground. Torn tendon and blood and broken bones in feasting abandon beneath a split and howling sky. But to be a wolf with the mind of mortal man or woman? No-we can’t be trusted with that kind of power without being broken by it. Not even wise women of The Clutch. Not even them.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

If you've been listening to Build Mama a Coffin over on The Patreon you know who I am. And if you ain't and ye don't, well you're about to. See, if i whispered my whole name — the one I was made with, real quiet like — right in y'all's ear — well... I think you might just burst into a whole plague of locusts right there on the spot, or else you might swallow your own heart and chew out your kidneys because you cain't pronounce it and it wouldn't never get out your head no how... but I digress. The old folks called me The Hungry Mother, The Pale Daughter, The Unsated Mouth. One old preacher tried to call me Babylon, but ain't nobody listening to him no more. Not where I put him. No sir. You can call me Granny. Granny White.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

From the creators of Darkest Night and Deadly Manners comes a brand new immersive sci-fi podcast called - The Oyster. In a not so distant future, due to overwhelming carbon emissions, The Earth is on the brink of becoming uninhabitable. These conditions are made far more horrifying because the available housing shelters (that can produce sustainable air quality) will only be able to house 80% of the world’s total population. To try and save the human race, every person has a government-mandated microchip implanted in their brains to attempt to facilitate the migration of a portion of the population to an underground shelter. In order to decide who gets to be protected and who must stay above ground, the government implements a value scale they have determined based on "usefulness" to future society. If you are valued at a 50 or above, you will be chosen to enter the bunker, and, if not, you must stay above ground and face the end of days. “Neuron” (which acts as both a prestigious brain implant and also a software company) is folded into a sanctioned branch of the government called, “The Ministry of Experience.” Their job now is to develop technologies and software that can replicate the human experience above ground. But what is far more pressing is The Ministry must find a way to reduce the use of resources, or they will run out of all survivable assets before being able to relocate to “Eden” - the one place above ground that might be salvageable in a few years time. Whether Eden will be ready in time remains to be seen, but its existence is literally the last hope for the human race surviving. In a drastic effort to cut emissions and resource usage, “The Oyster” is created. The Oyster is Nirvana - A state absent from the mind while being filled with complete pleasure and bliss. What, then, happens when reality begins to fade and The Oyster is all that remains?  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I have always loved the writing of this show, but, "His dream double back flipped itself into nightmare territory," and the cadence it was said in got me. I had to go back and listen to it several times, I love moments like that.

This was the first podcast I ever listened to. And I am ADDICTED! Absolutely amazing story. This one set the bar so high I've had difficult finding others that compare. I am anxious awaiting for them to come back and continue. And if you can afford to contribute on their patreon their patrons only story Building Mama a Coffin is equally as good. I recommend this podcast to any and everyone who like horror and spooky stories. You won't be disappointed!!!
