Yet, like many of you, I've had a life-long interest in all things spiritual. Wondering if there might be more to life than the daily cycle of work-home-sleep-repeat, I began reading voraciously–everything from books on philosophy, Buddhism, and the Jesus teachings I grew up on, to the latest spirituality bestsellers, self-help columns, and human-interest stories in my local newspaper. I encapsulate what I’ve learned in my weekly Wake Up Call columns and feature the very best of these stories in Wake Up Call, the book. Welcome to my conversation with Susan Bauer-Wu, PhD - Author & President of the Mind & Life Institute, co-founded by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1987. We talk about her latest book: "A FUTURE WE CAN LOVE: How We Can Reverse the Climate Crisis through the Power of Our Hearts and Minds“ which was inspired by a Mind & Life conversation between the Dalai Lama and Greta Thunberg. In our conversation, Susan shares ideas about how each of us can make a difference to get our only habitat - Planet Earth - back on track and away from the pre-cyclical phenomenon of the current "climate feedback loops". Science predicts that by 2050 we'll have between 200m and 1bn climate refugees worldwide. We also touch on the human feedback loops that Buddhists call the "Three Poisons": DELUSION, CRAVING and DISLIKING. The key to changing the future of our climate is 1. knowledge, 2. capacity, 3. willingness and 4. Action. We all have the power to avoid climate catastrophe IF we act NOW! Join me and Dr. Joel Fuhrman in a conversation about how to build up our immunity system in order to protect us from infectious diseases such as COVID-19. With health authorities' warnings about the potential of new flu epidemics and the global spread of viral illnesses, it is vital that we keep our immune system strong and know the the steps to take to protect ourselves and our families. Dr. Fuhrman is a true visionary and coined the term 'NUTRITARIAN diet'  - describing a nutrient dense way of eating, that strengthens our body from within. According to him the Standard American Diet (SAD) is a cancer generating diet. One of the main reason why so many younger people (under 65 years of age) in the USA die from COVID-19, is due to comorbidity, i.e. pre-existing diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer or cardio vascular issues. The last two, being the top killer with over 27.4m people dying from it each year globally (2017, IHME, Global Burden of Diseases published by The Lancet).
