Description

We design a one-shot TTRPG scenario each episode based off of a random prompt. Join Forever DM Daniel and his player, another Daniel, for memey adventures, DM tips, and perhaps get some inspiration for your own next session. Or, put us on in the background to simulate living with two roommates who have very bad takes on popular media.

New episodes every other Tuesday, 5 AM EST.

S3 Ep. 2: Tales of Arise

S3 Ep. 2: Tales of Arise

2023-03-2801:19:03

Spoiler Alert: We do explain the plot of the game (mostly correctly). And I do apologize this time. But I’m not happy about it. We look back on Tales of Arise, a game one of us finished, and see if we can’t put our own spin on a plot from the game. Daniel becomes Daniel for the first time, while Daniel experiences torsion.
Spoiler Alert: We do explain the plot of the game. New players beware. Also spoilers for Tales of Arise, but I will not apologize for that one. After taking a trip down JRPG memory lane, we immediately hone in on a childhood classic, Tales of Symphonia. We also talk a lot of trash about a game we played and kind of enjoyed, Blades in the Dark, as well as the usual off-topic nonsense. Daniel displays his deep knowledge of Symphonia, while Daniel tempers his rage in preparation for the next episode.
S3 Ep. 0: Fabula Ultima

S3 Ep. 0: Fabula Ultima

2023-03-0101:14:51

As the world plunges into turmoil, two Ds must once again become one and embark on a quest to make poor references to bits they barely remember. Today we take a first look at Fabula Ultima, a neat JRPG-inspired TRPG system that’s sure to be narrative fun for the whole family. Daniel skips several evolve forms, while Daniel physically recoils at a song reference. Writing the description for this episode has made me realize that it would be pretty irresponsible to just falsely claim that your show has a celebrity feature in the title. We close it all out making a final fantasy boss fight, and that’s okay because none of those words are proper nouns. It’s the final episode for this show’s current format; what happens next is still up in the air, but we hope you enjoyed the journey (or at least some portion of it). Daniel secures some sponsorships, while Daniel eats burgers.
Join us this week for a rant about Palword and the narratives it has sparked online, which is wholly unrelated to the thing we’re actually doing, which is designing the interlude part of our campaign’s final chapter. Daniel lists three activities, while Daniel gets lost.
In our arguably most anxiety-inducing episode yet, we are terrified to commit to anything but do end up with a pretty neat little pre-finale dramatic combat encounter. And yes, we also get introspective. Daniel explains a musical, while Daniel buys a hot dog in character.
This episode we finally get around to flushing out the Magic Kingdom after a whole season. We find out what happens during the good ending of the shrimp mobile fight. Daniel stops doing outro and Daniel shoehorns in a quest for a sandwich.
Daniel's back after a treacherous journey to a foreign land known as Orlando, Florida. We catch up with Daniel as he regale us with his tail to Ceotaku. We also finally build the boss fight for Josh Greenroad. Daniel tries to harmonize, while Daniel tries to keep peta off our backs.
Bang, Bang and Babang... sorry ya'll Daniel is sick and can't right the description so you get my poor grammar skills. Today we work with the beloved newbie DM Josh G. from Crash Course DM who constantly plugs his own podcast through the whole episode can you believe this guy. We tackle the popular boardgame Bang! and create a western style DnD 5e shoot and slash one shot. Plus a cameo appearance from The Eels Improv group and dogs. Remember that old Nickelodeon game show? Me neither! Join me in my confusion as we make a game show/livestream event oneshot along with friend of the show/BBEG of our campaign, Josh Greenway/road. Daniel harms animals, Daniel gets his spell canceled, and Josh stands his ground.
This week, we insert Disc 2 to continue our Sonic-inspired Fabula Ultima campaign. After we make good on a promise to include some listener (see also: our friends) character submissions, our plans to design a sewer dungeon are immediately derailed in the worst way. Daniel shows off his freestyle skills, while Daniel faces his traumatic past.
An episode where we’re just two guys hangin’ out, and then also the typical episode format. We round out this season (I think? I don’t know how this works still) with a quick and dirty scenario about going to definitely-not-Zora’s-Domain and confronting the monster that is human industry. Daniel gets controversial, while Daniel talks everyone’s favorite MMO.
We design a scenario within our definitely-not-Disneyworld while drawing from the story of Witch Hat Atelier. This episode also doubles as a test for a different audio setup, which may or may not have been a bad idea. Daniel gets his own goat, while Daniel pitches lion-based backstories. https://www.needgames.it/fabula-ultima-en/#risorse
We take a break from taking a break from our usual scheduled programming to put our design skills to the test. The results aren’t great, according to some guides we found on Google (but we do get introspective). Daniel counts to 3 as a bit, while Daniel has war flashbacks. Lists we used in the episode: https://richiebilling.com/welcome/the-writers-toolshed/fantasy-writing/a-complete-guide-to-fantasy-worldbuilding#WBD10 https://www.masterclass.com/articles/how-to-write-an-engaging-fictional-world
We take a crack at homebrewing a magic system involving physically drawing sigils for Fabula Ultima, at the behest of a cool listener. We also talk about magic systems in general, amongst other ramblings. You can check out literal Disney artist Kenneth’s stuff at his homepage https://www.kenesu.com/, which has really dope concept art and features heavily underrepresented Asian cultures.  Soft and Hard Magic Systems: https://prowritingaid.com/magic-system
Daniel reveals his latest foray into bad games with Redfall, which inspires the design of our next major Fabula Ultima story piece. We’re also trying a new title format in what may be our most coherent design segment yet. Daniel questions island geography, while Daniel commits treason.
Bonus Ep: AI-Generated D&D

Bonus Ep: AI-Generated D&D

2023-06-0601:03:08

Daniel recounts his experiences running a module generated by ChatGPT. We discuss pros and cons, as well as the presence of AI in other creative domains. Daniel discusses imprinting, while Daniel uses the opportunity of taking the reins to immediately discuss adult dolls. This description was generated by ChatGPT (not really though).
S3. Ep 6: Blade Runner

S3. Ep 6: Blade Runner

2023-05-2301:00:08

It’s time for us to jump onto the AI hype bandwagon by seeing what people thought about it 40 years ago. After watching an estimated 60% of Blade Runner and its sequel, we proceed to use it as inspiration to create something wholly unrelated. Daniel gets his recap on, while Daniel researches young men.
S3 Ep. 5: Mineral Town

S3 Ep. 5: Mineral Town

2023-05-0901:00:10

We design the first quest that kicks off the full adventure through our Sonic fan fiction tube-world. It is truly harrowing how many times the term “Sonic fan fiction” has come up in this podcast’s runtime. Daniel declares cuts, while Daniel defends his very problematic cave idea. Look forward to the rest of the season where we’ll be filling out the rest of the world to culminate into a fully playable TTRPG setting.  https://www.needgames.it/fabula-ultima-en/#risorse
Today, we roll around through Fabula Ultima’s character creation rules at the speed of sound, which, as it turns out, is about 20 minutes per character. Is this system truly the Shangri-La of Sonic OC generation that we’ve all been dreaming of? Listen on to find out. Daniel nails every music reference, while Daniel gets sold on puke.
