The Open Tabs Podcast returns with friend of the show Chris Lee to discuss a wide variety of topics around, as Chris calls it "Saturday and Sunday Ball". It's our favorite time of year.
On this episode we discuss the upcoming college football semifinal, the MVP race, and make our picks for Wild Card Weekend. From there we go into a vigorous discussion about the types of things we would do if we were the owners of our favorite teams.
We had a great time discussing it as we always do and we hope that you enjoy the episode as much as we did making it!
We know we've been away for a while but we are so glad to be back!

After a long break we are back and we have a good one for you. On this episode we discuss Kevin Hook's 1991 film Strictly Business. We discuss the various rising stars in the film and where they eventually ended up. Halle Berry shines in this film but there is so much more to it. Give us a listen, a like, and subscribe. We have some great films on deck to discuss. We know you missed us! #theopentabspodcast
This week we discuss the Ben Affleck directed story of how Air Jordan came to be, 2023's Air. We talk about our respective shoe journeys and discuss some of the amazing performances as well as what they got right and what wasn't quite true. It's the "newest" movie we've ever discussed but the conversation is very much rooted in 1984. We talk about the elephant in the room, was Jordan necessary for the film. Listen and see what we had to say.

Can a movie be both a classic and a bad movie? Can it be entertaining and bad simultaneously? In the case of this episode's film Purple Rain we think the answer to both of those questions is yes. There is no question about the impact of this film on the culture, music, and entertainment at large. The questions are about the plot and acting which at times was laughable, but here we are! Purple Rain remains amazing in spite of if not because of it's flaws! We can't wait for you to hear our thoughts about it. Let us know what you think. Subscribe, like, rate, and review us! #theOpenTabsPodcast #PurpleRain #Prince #Apollonia #TheTime #MorrisDay
On this episode of the Open Tabs Podcast we cover another Roman Polanski film, released in 1968 Rosemary's Baby. Joe doesn't do horror movies, but what we learned even more so was that Joe doesn't do BAD HUSBANDS. Guy Woodhouse is a bad husband. Joe makes his feelings very clear about Guy early on. Calvin loves villains, Guy is definitively a villain, suffice to say there is a difference of opinion on Guy, though we agree he is deplorable. That discussion and more are held on this episode on a genre defining, ground breaking film. Join us as we discuss "All Of Them Witches". Make sure you like, subscribe, follow, all those things! Thanks for listening and watching! #theopentabspodcast
If you watched last week's episode you are probably wondering where Rosemary's Baby is. Keep praying for her baby, we'll discuss that film next week, in the meantime we had some thoughts we had to get out about the playoffs. Calvin's on an unprecedented playoff pick run, at 10-0 so far. Can it continue? Well listen and let us know what you think. Also we had thoughts on a ton of other things. This episode is a bit of a mish mash but it's also Joe and Calvin doing what they do. We like it, we hope you do as well. We promise Rosemary's Baby next week! Like, subscribe, and comment! We appreciate you all! #theopentabspodcast
This is a good one folks! On this episode we start by recapping the previous weeks picks! We did well, Joe went 5/6, Calvin went 6/6. We made picks for next week as well. We had a little banter about the Boston MLK Statue, you know how we do. Then we jumped into this episodes topic, Richard Donner's The Goonies. As you can imagine there is a lot to say and say it we did. We know this is a beloved movie so we wanted to do it justice with a great discussion and as always we hope that you all enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it! As always we appreciate you listening and watching. Like and subscribe. Tell someone about us! #theopentabspodcast
We love music on #theopentabspodcast anyway you choose it! But we really love the genre of Yacht Rock! Retrospectively named in 2005, it's a sub genre of soft rock that gives you that feeling of sailing off of the Catalina Coast after the old Catalina Wine Mixer. Maybe you have a special someone with you, maybe you have a bottle of Malbec and a Chacuterie board. You decide, but what you must have is the right music! Well we discuss what the right music is, who the right artists are and we even did you the solid of creating a spotify playlist to go with this episode! It's our season 4 premier episode in earnest and we can't wait to bring you our line up! In the meantime listen to or watch this episode. Like and subscribe. Recommend it to a fellow music lover, but don't tell us what we "forgot" because while we may have left it off we forgot NOTHING! Season 4! Open Tabs!
It's the best time of year. Sure the Holidays are great, but we are talking about the Fantasy Football Playoffs here!! To make it to the finals you need some luck and a trade here or there, but year in and year out the teams that perform the best are the ones who draft the best. Kevin Costner stars in Ivan Reitman's last directorial effort along with Jennifer Garner and Chadwick Boseman among others to put together this film that gets better with each viewing. We are joined a bit later by Calvin's brother in law Tony Braswell who lends some expert insight into the film. Check us out and let us know what you think! #theOpenTabsPodcast
We dedicate this episode to our Morehouse Brother Turner Cooper Class of 2011 who departed this Earthly realm too soon, rest in power brother.
#TheOpenTabsPodcast has returned from a brief hiatus and a great deal has happened in the world. What better way to return than to discuss the world of television. With so many options to choose from we wanted to discuss our current top fives as well as shows that didn't make the cut (from barely missing to barely considered and all in between). You know how we do, we cover it all, including the great theme songs. We talk about shows on the cusp and we make some recommendations. We are sure we left some of your favorites off so make sure you tell us what we missed. Speaking of missed, we missed you all, but one thing we will never do is leave y'all hanging for too long! Tell us how much you missed us and tell a friend to give us a listen. Like and review us, subscribe so you don't miss an episode! We are #TheOpenTabsPodcast and we are glad to be back!
On this episode of #theopentabspodcast we return to the work of our Morehouse Brother class of 1979, one Shelton Jackson "Spike" Lee. Before he was winning Oscars he made a small Black and White film for about $175,000. He turned a little bit of a profit and now we have a world of films, thank goodness. This film has some flaws but overall we found it "necessary". We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it. If you do, let us know, tell a friend.
Disclaimer: You may hear a fire alarm in the background at certain points. You may not. Thank goodness for high quality mics. Apologies if it annoys you, we pushed through.
On this episode we discuss the 1978 John Landis directed classic starring an ensemble cast including John Belushi, Tim Matheson, and Donald Sutherland National Lampoon's Animal House. This film, which is currently streaming on Peacock, was indeed genre defining and holds up amazingly well. The misadventures of Delta house at Faber College led to alot of the films we know and love today both directly and indirectly and we discuss it all. We hope you enjoy this episode. If so let us know by liking, subscribing, and commenting. We at #theopentabspodcast certainly appreciate it!
Django! Have you always been alone? This week we cover the eight film by Quentin Tarantino, 2012's Django Unchained starring Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and of course the winner of the best supporting actor that year Christoph Waltz. Highly controversial and even more highly entertaining, Django holds up pretty well. We have a pretty rousing conversation about the merits of the film. Some pretty controversial thoughts get expressed as well. Check us out and let us know what you think. You can find us on youtube, apple podcasts, spotify, anchor.fm and a slew of other places. We are #theopentabspodcast
You sure y'all wanna hang with old Eddie King (or Kane....it's fine)? It was about time for us to discuss this black family classic. Robert Townsend at his best with Keenan Ivory Wayans as a co-writer. This film is everything and anything to so many people. If you are looking for pure entertainment, they got you. If you are looking to laugh, they got you. If you want memorable original songs, they got you. It's a true enduring classic, and we cover it from pole to pole. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it. Like, comment, and subscribe! #TheOpenTabsPodcast
"People say I am the best boss." In season 1 this was debatable but one of the things we loved about Netflix in the early days was opening it up and seeing that clip before a binge however long or brief. Then along came NBC/Universal's streaming service, Peacock, and they stole the Office from us. Sure you could watch on Comedy Central or FreeForm, but another service to stream was a bit much....until the advent of the Superfan episodes. Folks these episodes are a game changer and we at #TheOpenTabsPodcast are here to tell you why they are a MUST watch. Join us and let us know your thoughts!
Ladies and gentlemen #TheOpenTabsPodcast is at it's best when we have guests and on this episode we had the pleasure of having our dynamic and vivacious Spelman sister Heather Joy Thompson join us to discuss 1997's L.A. Confidential. Directed by Curtis Hanson and starring Kim Bassinger, Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, and Guy Pearce this film has lasted the test of time and holds up incredibly well. We hit all the high points (and the one or two low points) about this film. All of the elements are here and Heather brings the heat. She will definitely be back with us in the near future. Check us out on your favorite streaming podcast service or youtube. Subscribe so you know when we have a new episode and make sure you give us a like. We are #TheOpenTabsPodcast and we appreciate you!
This episode of #theopentabspodcast has been a long time coming. We cover a fan favorite Western that has lasted test of time. The epic story of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, directed (maybe) by George P Cosmatos and written by Kevin Jarre, the one and only Tombstone. We hit all the high points as well as a couple of low ones in our discussion of a true genre defining film. We hope you enjoy this one as much as we enjoyed making it. Check us out on your favorite podcast streaming service and make sure you subscribe so you know when we update! We love our listeners/viewers and we thank you. We are #theopentabspodcast
On this episode of #TheOpenTabsPodcast we are joined by our Morehouse Brother Wayne Davis '00 who brings the absolute heat as we discuss arguably the best film in the Star Wars film series, the Irvin Kershner directed 1980 blockbuster film, Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back. Among other things, we discuss if this is the greatest sequel of all time. We also give some well deserved love and praise for one Billie Dee Williams in his role as Lando Calrissian. This is a great episode ladies and gents. As always we appreciate your love and support! Follow us and subscribe wherever you get your digital content! #TheOpenTabsPodcast
We have returned ladies and gentlemen and not a moment too soon. Yeah we missed some major life events as life was happening around us but we've been consuming some new material and two projects on HBO in particular had us captivated. So we came back to discuss the HBO Limited Series We Own This City written by David Simon and George Pelecanos as well as Winning Time based on Jeff Pearlman's best selling book Showtime about the Laker's Dynasty of the 80s. Both shows are amazing and worth your time and we hope you enjoy our discussion on them. As always we appreciate your view/listen. Like, subscribe, rate, and review! #TheOpenTabsPodcast
