We always tend to view procrastination as something evil and a barrier to success. This is not wrong, but there is something we can take away from situations in which we find ourselves waiting until the last minute. This is a sign that this thing may not be your gift. Maybe it's tracking your numbers, researching better billing options, following up on accounts receivable, or any other number of tasks that pop up for a practice owner. To really set yourself apart, make effective changes, and be a strong, solid leader for your staff, you need to FOCUS. Ultimate O.D. Nugget - Can You Tell a Story? In this week's nugget it's all about the catalyst that simplification can be in your practice. Want to grow your business, expand your reach, all while providing better care for your patients? SIMPLIFY. Take everything you talk about with your patients and simplify it. Come up with short and simple analogies to explain procedures, ocular anatomy, lenses, treatments, you name it. Often the difference between patient compliance and non-compliance is just the fact that they understand what you are telling them. Not sure if your analogies are effective? Find someone you trust outside of the eye care field and run it by them. Ask them to explain the example back to you and see if they understand it. Oftentimes we get so caught up in the medical terminology that we forget "normal" people have no idea what we are really talking about!
