Welcome back to Oregon Buds! I can't believe we are already on episode 31, damn does time fly. We appreciate all the listeners and the three of us are really excited about this episode. We love to continue to learn about cannabis and all of it's wonderful medicinal and recreational properties. Get ready to push the limits of your current cannabis knowledge! Emma Chasen has a mission to educate people on the science of Cannabis so that they may take charge of their own healing. After graduating from Brown University in 2014 with a degree in Medicinal Plant Research, Emma went on to coordinate Clinical Oncology Research Group. When her supervisor refused a Cannabis trial in favor of another expensive pharmaceutical drug. Emma quit and headed across the country to Portland, OR. She found her way to Farma, the popular Portland dispensary that takes a more scientific approach to Cannabis; rejecting the Indica/Sativa binary and instead focusing on chemotypes to determine effect. She began her career at Farma as a budtender and was quickly promoted to General Manager after only a few months. She oversaw the operations of the shop and continued to uphold the pillars of esteemed customer service and cannabis education during the rocky regulatory transition from OHA to OLCC governance. Emma is now a cannabis industry consultant and helps brands develop educational marketing collateral and educational program to further elevate their brand presence in a competitive industry. She also helps cannabis businesses with business organization and creation of internal on boarding programs to set them up for success in the competitive adult use market. Emma continues to seek ways to spread cannabis education through consulting, writing, speaking and teaching. Welcome back to another fantastic episode of Oregon Buds! We have another incredible episode for you today. We were honored to have Mary Jane Poppins from the Sativa Science Club with us. We learned everything from the beginnings of Mary's journey all the up to today. The buds got to experience some new herbs to smoke and the benefits of each herb. An avid learner and social entrepreneur, Mary is forever seeking new ways to unite community around the cause of holistic health. After spending the majority of her twenties as a traveling intern and student of clinical herbalism. Mary earned an A.S in Community Health Education and a B.S in Sustainable Business Management before moving on pursue graduate studies in Non-Profit Development and Leadership. Mary utilizes this unique skill set to establish charitable organizations, community initiatives, and education platforms for herbal medicine shops nationwide. She established the Bridge City Botanical Collective in 2010, a free-school community of over 200 herbalists and holistic health teachers offering classes across the state of Oregon and beyond. This collaborative study model would later inspire the creation of Sativa Science Club. Through cannabis, Mary sees the unique opportunity to reach a profoundly sincere and deeply curious community with a message of collaboration, education, and the true power plants. It is her sincere belief that, together, cannabis businesses and their advocates have the power to influence the vote and change the way that people think about herbal medicine forever. In her spare time, Mary teaches grant writing, and creative entrepreneurship workshops at local universities, and sits on the executive board of the Oregon Craft Cannabis Alliance. Sativa Science Club is a grassroots cannabis education initiative on a mission to dispel harmful myths, replace them with evidence-based facts, and bridge the gap between cannabis businesses and their surrounding communities. Happy Sunday, Buds! And welcome to our 22nd episode. This week we brought on Jesse Peters, co-founder and CEO of Eco Firma Farms. If you’re not familiar with Eco Firma, that should change soon because they are back from a year-long hiatus during which they built out their cultivation facility to drastically surpass any environmental standards set before them. Founded in 2012, Eco Firma Farms has always been on a mission to improve and legitimize the cannabis industry. Whether it’s creating sustainable and carbon-neutral growing practices, or lobbying for legalization, chances are Jesse has something to do with it. He helped to found the Oregon Growers’ PAC and the Oregon Cannabis Association, both of which are bringing the industry together to influence rulemaking in a way that allows our community to continue to grow and thrive. We are so grateful to Jesse and Eco Firma Farms for fighting the good fight and for taking the time to share with us about it! This was such an educational episode which we always love to do, we hope you take some time to listen to Jesse’s thoughts because there was no way to cover it all here! Follow our story on our social media. @oregon_buds on Instagram and @oregonbuds on Twitter. We are now publishing articles on The Weed Blog and you can check it out now!
Welcome back to another great episode of Oregon Buds! We have an action packed episode with Leah a co-owner of The Weed Blog. We catch up on what happened over the weekend with the buds. Running around PDX and dealing with gun toting scam artists. It was a wicked weekend for the buds. We also discuss the insane comments coming from Chad Larner, director of Macon County's K-9 Training Academy. Leah is a canna-journalist and advocate who lives in Portland, Oregon. She was very involved in cannabis legalization there, helping found New Approach Oregon and starting a group called Moms for YES on Measure 91 during the legalization campaign in 2014. She is one of the owners of TheWeedBlog.com, where she serves as the Editorial Lead and manages Outreach for the company. Leah also does freelance outreach and marketing consulting for cannabis companies and organizations. In 2015, she helped launch Portland's Women Grow chapter and then lead it for over a year. At the core, though, Leah is a cannabis legalization activist and hopes to see the prohibition of cannabis end on a federal level, and to see the cannabis conversation normalized across America.
