In todays episode we explore the reasons behind the printing of the Queen Victoria £5 orange. Starting with the price of telegrams in the Victorian era and then the changes in the system that lead to the £5 postage stamp, we go on to look at the temptations involved when dealing with a stamp  selling at the equivalent of a months wages. 
In this episode we find out what is involved in the design of new stamps for the British Postal Service. We look at the issues of 2021 and discuss in detail one particular set which has caught my attention. We also find out how you can spend more than £200 on items from the new issues. 
In this episode we discover how De La Rue lost a printing contract that they had held for nearly 50 years, the problems facing Harrison & sons when they took over the printing and how the governments own printers at Somerset House got involved in printing stamps.
