In June 2008, an ABS-CBN news team had just arrived in the quiet town of Maimbung, Sulu, determined to land an exclusive story from the leaders of the infamous Abu Sayyaf Group. At the time, Abu Sayyaf was one of the most feared armed groups in the Philippines—known for kidnappings, bombings, and ties to terrorism. Getting a sit-down with its leaders would have been a huge scoop, offering rare insight into their motives and operations. At the center of it all was Cecilia Victoria “Ces” Oreña-Drilon, a seasoned broadcast journalist admired for her bravery and instinct for powerful stories. On June 8, 2008, Ces, her crew, and Mindanao State University professor Octavio Dinampo entered the tense and unpredictable terrain of Jolo—unaware that they were about to be part of one of the most terrifying moments in Philippine media history. For any collaboration, brand partnership, and campaign run inquiries, e-mail us at info@thepodnetwork.com.Enjoy a good game of BingoPlus! — the first online poker casino in the Philippines. Bishop Benjamin de Jesus—known for his kindness and fearless work in one of the country’s most dangerous regions—was gunned down in cold blood in the morning of February 4, 1997, at Jolo, Sulu. Witnesses say two men walked right up to him and opened fire at close range, hitting him in the head, face, neck, shoulder, and stomach. He died instantly.Investigators quickly pointed to members of the Abu Sayyaf group—or other armed militants operating in the area—as the likely culprits. But in a place where politics, religion, and violence were tangled together, finding the real masterminds would prove far more complicated. For any collaboration, brand partnership, and campaign run inquiries, e-mail us at info@thepodnetwork.com.Enjoy a good game of BingoPlus! — the first online poker casino in the Philippines. It was just three days before Christmas in Daraga, Albay. In a covered court filled with laughter, gifts, and the chatter of elderly citizens, the mood was one of celebration. But in an instant, the holiday spirit shattered. Gunfire. Panic. Blood on the court floor. And the shocking realization that one of the Philippines’ most active lawmakers — Congressman Rodel Batocabe — had been assassinated in broad daylight. This was no random act of violence. This was a hit. Carefully planned. Coldly executed. For any collaboration, brand partnership, and campaign run inquiries, e-mail us at info@thepodnetwork.com.Enjoy a good game of BingoPlus! — the first online poker casino in the Philippines. Have you ever been “349ed”? Have you heard of this Filipino slang before? Its origin story was due to a marketing blunder—one that would be the deadliest in history.  Pepsi launched “Number Fever” in 1992, a lottery game that a lot of Filipinos hoped to win because it was a chance to become a millionaire. The correct 3-digit number combination on their Pepsi bottle cap would be the financial miracle to their woes. However, Pepsi mistakenly printed 800,000 winning caps, leading to lawsuits, riots, and deaths. For any collaboration, brand partnership, and campaign run inquiries, e-mail us at info@thepodnetwork.com.Enjoy a good game of BingoPlus! — the first online poker casino in the Philippines. In Philippine cinema, few names shine as brightly as Nida Blanca’s. She was elegance, charm, and talent personified — a beloved actress whose career spanned decades. But on the morning of November 7, 2001, the nation woke up to news that shattered the glamour of showbiz, at least during this time. Nida Blanca was found dead, and the circumstances were brutal.Enjoy a good game of BingoPlus! — the first online poker casino in the Philippines. Licensed by Pagcor. In 2018, Paul Le Roux, a white Zimbabwean who held South African and Australian passports, was a notorious crime lord who illegally trafficked drugs, gold, and guns. He testified in a U.S. court about having murdered numerous people by professional assassins, including a Filipina real estate agent killed in 2012. Six years earlier from his testimony, Le Roux was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration in Liberia. He began to cooperate with the U.S. government as they rounded up and prosecuted his criminal organization members for reducing a possible life sentence. For any collaboration, brand partnership, and campaign run inquiries, e-mail us at info@thepodnetwork.com.CONNECT WITH US▸ https://linktr.ee/phmurderstoriesHere are links to our social media accounts, case photos, episode notes, and sources!YOUTUBE▸ www.youtube.com/phmurderstories DISCORD SERVER▸ https://bit.ly/3n38Tuh IG CHANNEL▸ https://ig.me/j/AbaOmN2HytgKay0F/ SUPPORT OUR SHOW ON PATREON▸ www.patreon.com/phmurderstories   Hosted on Acast. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of difficulties worldwide. Aside from health reasons, financial and political instability is probably another impactful obstacle that the global health crisis has affected us throughout its existence. This led to increased crime rates, especially theft, robbery, online scams, and other related offenses.Several gruesome crimes happened during these trying times, particularly the Merciless Murder of Fabel Pineda, the Gregorio Double-Murder case, the Killing of Winston Ragos, and several others. Little did we know, another gruesome crime happened on August 3, 2020, which involved an 82-year-old Japanese woman who was robbed and killed by two perpetrators in her residence in Millwood Subdivision, Cabuyao City, Laguna. In 1987, the story of Rosario Baluyot's abuse and torture at the hands of an Austrian physician sparked outrage all over the country. She lived in Olongapo, or what was known as "Sin City" back then, due to rampant prostitution in the area.It was on October 10, 1986, when Austrian physician, Heinrich Stefan Ritter, brought Rosario Baluyot and Jessie Ramirez, another child, to a hotel room in Olongapo. Ritter then inserted a foreign object inside Baluyot. The following day, Ritter gave Baluyot 300 pesos and Jessie 200 pesos.Rosario Baluyot would eventually die from a severe infection in her cervix due to an electric vibrator stuck inside her vagina for over 7 months.During the trial, because of the lack of proper documents to prove Baluyot’s age, as well as the lack of evidence to link Ritter to her death, Ritter was acquitted. On July 7, 2018, Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan was traveling in a black Toyota Hilux when gunmen inside a black sports utility vehicle fired gunshots, killing the Vice Mayor on the spot. Meanwhile, witnesses also saw another black Toyota Hilux following the black SUV, which authorities claim could possibly be the getaway vehicle of the suspects, The brutal attack occurred around 3 pm in front of the Korean Hospital on Indang Road in Trece Martires City. Lubigan's driver, Romulo Guillemer, was also killed, while his security aide, Romeo Edrinal, was critically injured and taken to the hospital.Initially, news and political analysts thought that Vice Mayor Lubigan was on the list of politicians involved in illegal drugs as his death came in the same week when the assassinations of two mayors, Antonio Halili of Tanauan City, Batangas; and Ferdinand Bote of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija. However, Cavite police chief Senior Superintendent William Segun said Vice Mayor Lubigan was not on the drug list therefore, the killing was politically motivated. CONNECT WITH US▸ https://linktr.ee/phmurderstoriesHere are links to our social media accounts, case photos, episode notes, and sources!YOUTUBE▸ www.youtube.com/phmurderstories DISCORD SERVER▸ https://bit.ly/3n38Tuh IG CHANNEL▸ https://ig.me/j/AbaOmN2HytgKay0F/ SUPPORT OUR SHOW ON PATREON▸ www.patreon.com/phmurderstories   Hosted on Acast. A helper named Nedia Vasquez and a security guard named Abdul Batua intervened, leading to the assassin shooting both of them.Fortunately, the gunshots that Conchita, Nedia, and Abdul sustained were not fatal.According to police reports and various news outlets that covered the case, the murder of Chatty appeared to be connected to illegal drug distribution in the city of Dasmariñas.For any collaboration, brand partnership, and campaign run inquiries, e-mail us at info@thepodnetwork.com.CONNECT WITH US▸ https://linktr.ee/phmurderstoriesHere are links to our social media accounts, case photos, episode notes, and sources!YOUTUBE▸ www.youtube.com/phmurderstories DISCORD SERVER▸ https://bit.ly/3n38Tuh IG CHANNEL▸ https://ig.me/j/AbaOmN2HytgKay0F/ SUPPORT OUR SHOW ON PATREON▸ www.patreon.com/phmurderstories   Hosted on Acast. In the Philippine context, parricide refers to the crime of killing one's own parent, ascendant grandparent or great-grandparent, or other close relatives such as a child, spouse, or sibling, as specified under the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines.Specifically, Article 246 of the RPC defines parricide as the unlawful killing of a father, mother, child, or any of the direct descendants or ascendants, or a spouse. In our episode for today, we will tackle one of the least discussed parricide cases that happened in the 2010s.On November 28, 2012, the authorities discovered the body of 49-year-old Marilou Jorge in the trunk of her gold Honda Civic parked near her home in North Matrix Ville Subdivision, Caloocan City.Earlier that day, residents in the area complained to village officials about an unpleasant smell coming from what they described at the time as an abandoned vehicle.Little did they know at the time that the authorities would stumble upon a case that has more questions than answers.CONNECT WITH US▸ https://linktr.ee/phmurderstoriesHere are links to our social media accounts, case photos, episode notes, and sources!YOUTUBE▸ http://www.youtube.com/phmurderstoriesDISCORD SERVER▸ https://bit.ly/3n38TuhIG CHANNEL▸ https://ig.me/j/AbaOmN2HytgKay0F/SUPPORT OUR SHOW ON PATREON▸ http://www.patreon.com/phmurderstories Hosted on Acast. Mayor Antonio Halili of Tanuan Batangas was a well-known figure back in the day for his "walk of shame" campaign, where he paraded drug suspects through the streets, a method that garnered both support and criticism nationwide, which critics would argue that it violated human rights and due process. Some have compared him to former president Rodrigo Duterte’s hardline stance against crime. But the irony here is that a former Duterte ally recently revealed during the investigations in the House of Representatives Quad Committee claiming that Duterte was behind the assassination of Mayor Halili, although the investigation is still ongoing as of now. On July 2, 2018, Mayor Halili was assassinated during a flag ceremony at the city hall. A sniper shot him, causing immediate chaos and raising questions about the motive behind the killing. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.Mayor Halili's murder was speculated to be linked to his anti-drug campaign, political rivalries, or personal vendettas. Some theories suggested he was targeted for his involvement in the illegal drug trade. As of recording this episode, the filing of candidacies for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections has concluded, which means it is election season all over again in the Philippines. With that being said, throughout the course of our country’s history various political events that have led to violence and killings have occurred. One of the most infamous incidents that changed the course of our country’s political landscape is The Plaza Miranda Bombing in 1971.The Plaza Miranda Bombing, at the time, was viewed as one of the most infamous tragedies that happened during a political event. On the evening of August 21, 1971, the Liberal Party, which was the opposition party against former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s Nacionalista Party, was holding a political rally at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila. As the rally was in full swing, two grenades were thrown onto the stage where the Liberal Party leaders were gathered. The explosions caused chaos and devastation, resulting in nine deaths and injuring 95 others. Among the casualties were a five-year-old child and Ben Roxas, a photographer for the Manila Times.CONNECT WITH US▸ https://linktr.ee/phmurderstoriesHere are links to our social media accounts, case photos, episode notes, and sources!YOUTUBE▸ www.youtube.com/phmurderstories DISCORD SERVER▸ https://bit.ly/3n38Tuh IG CHANNEL▸ https://ig.me/j/AbaOmN2HytgKay0F/ SUPPORT OUR SHOW ON PATREON▸ www.patreon.com/phmurderstories  Hosted on Acast. Before the coronavirus disease affected our daily lives, the month of April was the most exciting month for those students who will finish their studies from a long school journey, as it was a time when students graduated from their respective levels. On April 8, 2019, the brutal killing of a 14-year-old girl happened near Cogon Cruz Integrated School, Danao City in Cebu. An unidentified person reported a complaint to the authorities that there was a foul odor coming from the school's septic tank. Together with the barangay officials' help, the police discovered a young girl’s corpse. They identified the victim as Tesa Marie Ygay. Those who were at the scene were shocked after discovering the young girl’s lifeless body with multiple stab wounds.CONNECT WITH US▸ https://linktr.ee/phmurderstoriesHere are links to our social media accounts, case photos, episode notes, and sources!YOUTUBE▸ www.youtube.com/phmurderstories DISCORD SERVER▸ https://bit.ly/3n38Tuh IG CHANNEL▸ https://ig.me/j/AbaOmN2HytgKay0F/ SUPPORT OUR SHOW ON PATREON▸ www.patreon.com/phmurderstories  Hosted on Acast. The upcoming 2025 midterm elections are near, which means the future of our leaders will be based on our votes this coming May. Through the years, there have been various incidents or initiatives from well-known or infamous politicians that broke or paved the way for their careers in public service. On April 23, 2012, a supposedly peaceful dismantling of a wet market quickly escalated into violence, resulting in one death and 40 injured people after the informal settlers of the Silverio Compound, fearing that they would lose their homes, confronted the police along Sucat Road in Parañaque City. The sole casualty was Arnel Leonor, a 19-year-old resident of the said residential compound, lying on the pavement with a fatal gunshot wound in the head. The police brought him to the nearest medical facility, but he was declared dead on arrival. This violent demolition in Paranaque City sparked discussions that highlighted the complex issues surrounding urban development, housing rights, and the need for more humane and inclusive approaches to addressing informal settlements.CONNECT WITH US▸ https://linktr.ee/phmurderstoriesHere are links to our social media accounts, case photos, episode notes, and sources!YOUTUBE▸ www.youtube.com/phmurderstories DISCORD SERVER▸ https://bit.ly/3n38Tuh IG CHANNEL▸ https://ig.me/j/AbaOmN2HytgKay0F/ SUPPORT OUR SHOW ON PATREON▸ www.patreon.com/phmurderstories  Hosted on Acast.
