It's in the news right now: will weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy cause a major ripple effect on the food service and restaurant industry? Wal-Mart's CEO seems to think so. Industry expert and consultant Brian Hutton joins us to unpack the layered implications.
Hutton believes that while the short-term impacts may not trigger an industry-wide quake, the long-term behavioral shifts remain a wild card. We also navigate the shifting sands of food service trends, such as the decline of the all-you-can-eat buffet and the rise of health-conscious dining. And it's not all salads and sunshine; we tackle the pros and cons of pharmaceutical intervention for weight loss, from the promise of reducing the need for joint replacements to the cautionary tales of health risks and overexertion injuries. With a nuanced look at knowns, known unknowns, and those ever-intriguing "unknown unknowns," this BONUS episode is a must-listen for anyone invested in the future of food and pharma.

Season 7 starts with Dick Grove, CEO and founder of INK Inc. Public Relations, which bills itself as “PR without the BS.” In 1997, the Kansas City-based Grove launched INK, notable for being one of the first to utilize a remote PR team (CNN profiled him at the time) and a unique “Pay for Performance” client model – both of which continue today. Over his 50+ year career, Dick has managed business and consumer communications from financial and investment relations, high-tech campaigns and products, crisis management, and the often-turbulent entertainment world. He’s served in the MarCom C-Suite with companies like Itel Corporation, GE Capital, and IT&T and a V.P. with industry powerhouse Burson-Marsteller.
Last year, Grove released his first book, “It’s the Media, Stupid: PR without the BS.” In it, he sheds light on the PR industry for publicists, entrepreneurs, and the general public seeking an insider’s look into the industry. Today, Dick shares his thoughts about the state of the industry, the history of his company, and some great tidbits, including
Why he won’t work with celebrities or politicians
Why he is allergic to charging hourly fees
Why simplistic things are often the most difficult
Why he wrote his book
