We had some friends over for Homemade Pizza and one of them asked if we had a microwave. No way, brotha, we ditched that device long ago. Jake kept insisting that we do an episode talking about life without a microwave. So, with no better ideas to record, here we are telling you about how great life is without a microwave.  The conversation wraps around other changes we're making to be more self-sufficient, economical, and environmentally friendly. It's a great chat with lots of reminders to be gracious with yourself as you make changes to your life. Perfect for keeping you on track with your new year's goals! We are often asked, "how did you two meet?" The short answer is through the internet, but we weren't on dating sites or looking to start a relationship together, and that's where the long answer starts. In our most intimate episode to date, we share our story about how we met; the afflictions we faced in our lives before meeting each and how we have helped each other move through our fears toward a life of creativity, love, and adventure.  After listening to this episode, take time to reflect on your own life and ask if you are being true to yourself. We pose and answer some questions that will help you think deeper about your pursuit of happiness and your connection to instinct. Listen to your fears, ask your community for guidance, and be open to the magic of life.  Ways to Support the Podcast: -Become a Patron: Support us on Patreon -Follow us on Instagram: @PairOfDinks

Ever felt that shiver down your spine when you dip your toes into the abyss of the ocean? That's where we start our conversation today, riffing on the comedic gold of "Finding Nemo's" seagulls before veering into the deep end of our own phobias. The sea's vast mysteries hold both allure and terror for us, leading to a cascade of thoughts from our irrational fears of sharks (thanks, "Jaws") to the nostalgia of coastal living and the succulent seafood we crave but can't quite reach from our landlocked state. Our homes are our sanctuaries, and in this heart-to-heart, we peel back the layers on what makes a space comfortable and private. From beachside toplessness to the quirks of apartment living and the visions we have for our future dwellings, we bare all about our domestic domains. And what's a chat without some career contemplation? We share tales of being the overqualified underdog and the slippery slope of job market dynamics that label seasoned pros as too experienced for their own good. Diving behind the scenes of set life, we shine a spotlight on the collaborative dance of film production and the respect it demands. We unpack the tensions between being a technician versus a creative force and how navigating the 'dating period' with new clients can save you from future headaches. Join us as we let you in on the nitty-gritty of our professional escapades and the wisdom gleaned from these encounters, all served up with a side of candid banter. Before the Pair of Dinks Podcast, Jake had a short run hosting his own podcast called “Blursday.” He recorded some conversations with friends during the COVID lockdowns and asked two basic questions: what are you struggling with now, and what are you doing about it? In this episode, we revisit Jake’s conversation with Federico, a filmmaker based in Colombia, and revisit that strange period in North and South American History. Just when we thought our kitchen adventures couldn't get any more exciting, a KitchenAid mixer lands on our countertop, and suddenly, the culinary possibilities are endless. Imagine milling your own flour with an attachment as nifty as a stone mill grinder, or crafting the perfect patty with a meat grinder—this is the homemade revolution we're living! We'll sift through the benefits of whole grains versus enriched flour, and reveal why ancient grains like Einkorn could be the unsung heroes for those with gluten sensitivities. And if you're curious about the impact of the flour enrichment process on our well-being, we're grinding down to the gritty truth about what's really in our bread. As we knead our way through doughs and dreams, the episode takes a homely turn, sharing the joy of a reorganized studio space that's rejuvenating Jake’s music projects. We'll also tune into how home improvements are enhancing leisure time, all the way from a new TV to a basement in need of decluttering. In the spirit of creativity, we buzz about the near completion of personal music pieces and the potential of future collaborations. And while we're on the topic of wonder, let's remember that life's mysteries don't always need an explanation—sometimes it's the magic in the unknown that keeps the world spinning.
