Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley are back to assess the impact of the Patriots' signing of Stefon Diggs. He fills an important void on the roster, but how much will he elevate the offense with Drake Maye? They also lay out some draft possibilities, with Will Campbell looking a bit more likely as the target at No. 4, before really going off the rails with non-Pats Chat toward the end.Doug also announced that he and his family are raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphona Society, in honor of his daughter Hallie. Doug Kyed has released his first mock draft of the season, and he and Michael Hurley go through all the options that could or should be available for the Patriots at No. 4 overall. They also discuss the still-pressing needs at left tackle and wide receiver, what can be done at center, Cooper Kupp and Tee Higgins being off the board, and finally some thoughts ahead of the season 2 finale of Severance. Also: Join Hoops For Hallie! The 3-2 Patriots are heading to New Orleans to take on the 1-4 Saints. If Drake Maye and Rhamondre Stevenson can hang on to the football, the Patriots should be in good shape. Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley take a look at the current roster and identify areas that could be improved via trade, and then take a look at how each member of the rookie class is doing. Some thoughts on Bill Belichick's disastrous situation at UNC ensue, then some takes on Rolling Stone's top 250 songs of the 21st century, Taylor Swift's latest release (from two Taylor Swift experts), and some pop punk/KPop thoughts to finish this one out.
A podcast so nice, the fellas had to do it twice!Look, a 2 a.m. podcast couldn't possibly have covered all that needed to be discussed after Drake Maye and the Patriots beat the Bills in Buffalo, so a sleep-deprived Doug Kyed got back on the podcasting horse and joined Michael Hurley to get through everything that might not have been discussed in the previous podcast. This is like how Taylor Swift releases 45 different versions of her albums for her adoring fans. You're welcome.
Holy mackerel, the Patriots won in Buffalo. Drake Maye suited up for his first prime-time game as a starter and was outstanding, outdueling Josh Allen in the 23-20 Patriots victory. It was Booms galore on this podcast: Stefon Diggs, Andy Borregales, Marcus Jones, Christian Gonzalez, Robert Spillane, too many Booms to count. The Dooms were fewer, though Rhamondre Stevenson's fumble and some avoidable penalties certainly made the list. How does this win change the season? Why, Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley will answer that very question on this special late-night/early-morning postgame reaction Pats Chat Podcast.
The Patriots are heading for prime time, as they'll take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football. Can they win? Sure. Will it be a disappointment if they don't? Probably not, but it depends on how they compete.Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley are here to do the requisite Josh Allen-Drake Maye comparisons, while breaking down some keys to this game, injury updates, expectations for Stefon Diggs, players to watch, and more. Then it's Baseball Bois time because, well, it's October. And as Dane Cook taught us all 20-plus years ago, THERE'S ONLY ONE OCTOBER!!!!
The Patriots have beaten the Carolina Panthers. Soundly. It was a little tense early, when the Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead and the Patriots went three-and-out, but a Marcus Jones punt return TD turned it around, and Drake Maye was nearly perfect in the 42-13 win.Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley break it all down, hand out booms and dooms, and then talk about a ton of other things because this game was what it was.
This is a big one. Some would say the biggest ever. The Patriots are playing the Panthers. And it's a MUST WIN ... in the sense that the season could be going down a bad path if they lose. Plus, is Drake Maye actually performing better than we think? Is Stefon Diggs happy? What's up with Christian Gonzalez? A deep dive into the PFF grades up and down the roster and a cameo appearance from the Baseball Bois ends this episode, which was historically good. You'll be telling your grandkids about it.
The Patriots turned the ball over five times against the Steelers and still ... kinda/shoulda won the game. That says a lot about many things, but the Patriots are now 1-2 and Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley are here to break it down. They have extensive thoughts about Rhamondre Stevenson and his fumbling problem, Drake Maye's good plays and brutal turnovers, the famed BOOMS and DOOMS, thoughts about Julian Edelman's and Bill Parcells' team hall of fame inductions, opinions about Mike Vrabel's philosophy on penalties, takes on J.J. Watt calling a T.J. Watt game for CBS, and much more. If you don't listen to this one, you're nuts! Sorry if that offends!!
It's Week 3, and the Steelers are coming to Foxboro. Who's going to win??? Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley have the answers. OK maybe not, BUT, they talk about Christian Gonzalez, the state of the roster, Drake Maye's love of Aaron Rodgers, and an impromptu power ranking of broadcasters on Patriots Super Bowls. You've never heard anything like this!!
The Patriots won in Miami. That's crazy, don't you think? Drake Maye was outstanding, so hopefully we never have to hear people wonder if there's too much "on his plate." Doug Kyed was in Miami for the game and breaks it all down with Michael Hurley. It certainly wasn't a perfect team effort, but it was entertaining. Enjoy the BOOMS and the DOOMS and then rate and subscribe and send it to your friends. The Pats Chat podcast will not be denied!
The Patriots laid an egg (sort of) in Week 1. Surely they can turn it around against the Dolphins, who had the stinker of all stinkers in their loss to the Colts ... right? RIGHT? Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley break that down, while giving thoughts on Terrell Williams, Mike Vrabel, Drake Maye, Christian Gonzalez, TreVeyon Henderson, Efton Chism, Mack Hollins, short receivers, Stefon Diggs' jersey number, and probably a ton of other stuff. You'll have to listen, like, and subscribe to find out!!!!!!!!!
The Patriots lost to the Raiders in Week 1, and it stunk. Drake Maye didn't do star quarterback things, Josh McDaniels didn't run the ball, Mike Vrabel's defense gave up far too many explosive plays, all leading to a dud of an opener. What's this mean for the season? Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley break it all down, while also discussing Bill Belichick's latest comments and some very timely DeflateGate thought.Shoutout to Doug and Mike for not playing with visual cues or having microphone issues for an entire podcast. Must be football season. LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!!!
Week 1 of the NFL season is officially underway, and Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley are previewing Sunday's game between the Patriots and Raiders. This is a tough one to get a feel for, but they really try their best, folks. Doug also reported that UNC has banned Patriots scouts from Tar Heels practices. Isn't that sad, everybody? Plus some great RedZone debates, a cameo from the Baseball Bois, and much, much more! SMASH that subscribe button and send this episode to your family. They need to hear it.
It's football season! That means Michael Hurley is ENGAGED. He and Doug Kyed are here to talk about the biggest news of the week, like Jabrill Peppers getting released. Are they really good enough to just cut good players? Also, 2025 captains were named -- any surprises? Christian Gonzalez still isn't practicing, when is it time to worry with Week 1's game against the Raiders just days away. Also, are Patriots fans rooting for Bill Belichick at UNC? Did the bozos who designed the MGM Music Hall not know that people pee? Is Salem, Massachusetts the scam capital of the world? So many questions, and a few answers.Download, like, subscribe, become our friend, come with us to the Hinder show in Providence, learn our deepest secrets.
The Patriots whittled their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday, and Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley are here to react right after the official announcements were made. Biggest surprise? Probably the eight receivers, including Javon Baker. Speaking of receivers, will it be hard for third-round rookie Kyle Williams to get on the field? Which of the players on the roster might get bumped for players claimed on waivers? All that, plus accidental Taylor Swift talk, questions on whether Hard Knocks is dead forever, and some existentialism/male loneliness chat to close the show. RATE AND SUBSCRIBE, FAM!
Bad news: Doug's podcasting from the car. Good news: Michael is not, and we edited some of the more wonky parts of the podcast. This should be the final car pod for maybe ever?Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley break down what happened in the Patriots' final preseason game against the Giants and discuss what's next for Mike Vrabel and crew ahead of next week's roster cuts.Rate, review and subscribe:Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/63az1kKeXzeiQOXCJ8EJiIApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pats-chat-a-patriots-podcast-with-doug-kyed/id1658450530YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@patschatpodcast
Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley are here to make a 53-man roster for the Patriots. Unfortunately, it wasn't very difficult. That means there's still a long way to go to get the Patriots to the level where their talent is going to set them up to compete with the NFL's best. That's the main point of this one, but there's also an in-depth discussion about the current state of the offensive line, some lesser-known players who will probably end up on the team, and some deep Baseball Bois talk. That "Play Ball" song at Fenway really is the pits.
Doug Kyed and Michael Hurley are BACK at their computers, not in the car, and the timing is great, because the Patriots beat the Vikings 20-12 in a preseason game. There was a lot to like in this game. Drake Maye had a couple of misfires, though. Efton Chism has MADE THE ROSTER (unofficially). What do they do with Kyle Dugger, who played until the very last snap? And Anfernee Jennings, for that matter? Alex Austin, he's pretty good, huh? All that and more, plus some complaining about Tom Brady in a Raiders jacket and the way people drive their cars.
The Pats Chat fellas are BACK, with Doug Kyed fresh off a quick trip to Minnesota for two days of joint practices with the Vikings. How did the Patriots fare against one of the NFL's better teams? Is the offensive line a nightmare again? Is Stefon Diggs causing a problem perhaps? How is Kyle Dugger so far down the depth chart? All of these questions and MORE are answered, along with some Taylor Swift Twitter ranting from Michael Hurley. Also, Doug was in the car for this one, so yes, there were a few blips along the way. But we are too honest of a podcast to edit that out for you. We are authentic. Take us as we are. OK bye.
