Often when people first hear about Ayurveda they might see a few posts online talking about doshas, or list of ideal morning routines (I make those graphics myself). But, if you dive deeper with the right coach for you, ideally you start to know yourself more. You learn how to trust your intuition, you understand when a dosha is out of balance and how to get yourself back on track. It becomes less about all of the rules to follow and more of a trust to what your body says. Kourtney Thomas is on a mission to help women find their own inner Dolly Parton. Through guided self-discovery work and coaching, she helps women see themselves so they can trust themselves in every choice they make for their bodies, lives, and businesses. On the daily, everyone needs the blunt (but kind) reminder that the only “right” way to do something is the way that works for YOU. With her background in fitness and life coaching, Kourtney has a gift for understanding all kinds of people, building instant rapport, and saying what she means without being mean. She helps women cut through the fluff to the conversations that matter. There aren’t confetti cannons around here, but there’s a whole lot of grit and growth. When she’s not coaching, Kourtney enjoys bicep curls and hiking fueled by cake in Denver, CO, where she lives with her husband, dog, and two cats. The morning hours are such a sacred time for self-care. Especially in the quietness of winter. Sleep is often something one might over indulge in during winter , but it’s important to wake around 6-7am to start your day even if the sun is not out yet. If you’re struggling to get up around 6am make sure you’re getting to bed before 10pm. *If you’re in your menstrual phase of your cycle you might need an extra hour of sleep (7am) during the winter months. In the winter season routine is important. The vata dosha enjoys variety but to make sure you stay grounded a regular routine will help pacify the vata dosha. This is a topic that pulls right at my heartstrings. Finding deeper, and deeper layers of yourself. I have been on a path to learn, absorb, embody various wellness practices through the years. I find that the more I invest in the things that are interesting to me they always pay off in finding new depths of who I am. For myself it started in college I was a double major and double minor. I added religion as a minor because I enjoyed taking and learning the religion classes that I ended up having enough classes to minor in it without that being my intention. I really enjoyed learning. That has continued into my adult life. I took my 230 hour yoga teacher training in 2014. I wanted to know more about yoga and what I was practicing. I loved it! I then went into Ayurveda school for 3 years where I transformed my life. This year I'm investing in my 500 hour yoga teacher training. I wasn't intending to do that but it was a calling. Last year I didn't do a super in-depth program or skill learning and this felt like the right time to go deep with something I knew I wanted to do at some point in my life. Winter in Ayurveda is associated with the vata dosha. Which means it can be a time of scatteredness, cold, dry, mobile, subtle, rough energy. Both in the mind and body. In Ayurveda what is going on outside the body is going on inside the body. I think many of us have lived separate from that reality for many years. I know I had. This year being 2020 it's a time to really embrace the rituals that fuel you and give you life, hope, and meaning. For me that is the winter solstice. It is also a very powerful time of the year astrologically speaking.  A reminder the winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Growing up we had two choices in menstrual wear- pads or tampons. I personally wasn't a tampon person, they didn't work/hurt. I never really was shown how to insert one properly and was born in the pre/internet days. So no video to watch on how to do it safely and properly. I decided to break down the difference between menstrual underwear and menstrual cups. Which one is best for you? Before we dive into monthly rituals for your menstrual cycle, what are rituals? Rituals to me are something you do with intention. Instead of thinking of it as a habit where you do it day after day and it feels as if you're checking something off your to do list a ritual has more intention with it.
