Grace, from DotWatcher.cc, talks with me about the ultra racing scene, it’s growth, the difference between bikepacking and touring and the furore that surrounded Lael Wilcox Tour Divide participation. Who is Grace Lambert-Smith? Grace is the kind of rider who says she hates hills yet constantly finds herself at the top of them having created a route she thought was benign. No stranger to long-distance, you'll find her taking part in Audax UK events, cycle-touring around Europe and venturing around her local hills in the Peak District, UK. Her 2019 goal is to ride Paris-Brest-Paris. When I first decided to take on this trip, cycling all the way home, I wanted to find a way to showcase the trip, to create memories and inspire other people to do the same thing. As part of the creative side of the trip, I wanted to reach out to likeminded cyclists out there, crafting and creating stories on their journey. Sami gave me an insight to storytelling that I hadn’t thought of, and has since inspired loads of creative ideas. It’s interesting to hear her perspective on visualising the work she does day to day. Listen to Sami Sauri share her experiences, how she got to where she is and how she finds ways to share herself and work with the world. http://www.thereabouts.com.au/ https://www.instagram.com/samisauri https://www.samisauri.com/ Pedaling Podcast is a show bought to you from Australia as I begin my cycle back home to Britain. The first step was arriving in Sydney, still not 100% ready, I share my insights and experience so far in Australia as I finalise all the pieces for my bikepacking trip all the way back to the UK. I also chat with my hosts, Paddy and David from Of Mountains and Men, who invited me to stay after listening to my recent podcast with World Spoke People Anneke and Tane, who are also following the same path that they did, just like I am. A couple of kiwis with their UK visas coming to an end, decided to get home the long way.  Anneke and Tane share their story with me from the beginning. Listen to their journey that started out in a London pub when the idea first started, the venture across Europe, Asia and back to New Zealand, 20,000 kilometers later. The funny start to the story is that Anekke and Tane gave me the inspiration to do this trip myself. After seeing their journey starting, visiting their website, I would often be found searching across their map. Now that my trip is starting in two weeks, I have both of these two to thank for helping kickstart my trip in a similar way back home. In a few months I'm starting the journey of New Zealand (Tour Aotearoa), not only covering the distance in 30-40 days, but sharing the story on my journey. But what exactly do I want to share? How will the journey shape the story? How do I creatively manage my ideas whilst producing and riding consecutive days? In this new series, I'm talking with creative thinkers from inside the cycling industry, starting with Erik Nohlin. Some call him the Dark Lord, others call him a creative cycling messiah. Erik is the Creative Director on the Sagan Collection and the chief architect of a bikepacking movie called the Length of Sweden, the story that inspired me most. Erik shares his perspective on creativity, what drives him to create and the story behind the Length of Sweden and offers me advice on bringing my own journey to life. Back when I was in Wellington, I had no intention of talking with Dan at Bicycle Junction, mostly because I didn't know much about him and the shop. After a few days cycling around, seeing the shop, their social media and the odd things going on, I was curious. I stepped in and had a coffee, watched everything go by and was fascinated by what Dan was doing, from the style of bikes, the coffee shop, the layout of the space and the odd-looking bikes parked outside. Dan sat down to take me through his journey to where he is now, his motivation for doing what he loves and the true purpose to why he setup Bicycle Junction. This show was setup around this idea of exploring the way the cycling industry is shifting and changing and Dan's story is a key part of that change that is focused, niche and offers something different. Passing through Wellington, New Zealand, I stopped by to meet-up and talk with the Kennett Brothers. You've probably heard of them if you'd done a little cycling research in this country, but I knew little about how everything has come about since the 1980's. Listen to how these three kiwis have pioneered cycling in their home country on a scale not often seen in a single lifetime. They're still influencing big decisions, coaching volunteers and building lots of tools to showcase why New Zealand is a big destination for all types of cycling activities.  I’m John, Pedaling from New Zealand back home to Britain. New Zealand's artisan wheel builders invited me into their Wellington hub to talk about the dark arts of building great wheels, every time. If you're like me and you don't know the difference between a basic wheel, a wheel bought online and why you would spend extra money for a company like Wheel Works to build your wheels, then have a listen to this. What is Pedaling Podcast? Im John, I created Pedaling Podcast as a way to document the cycling stories as I cycle all the way from Auckland, New Zealand to London, United Kingdom. I became interested in the industry almost recently, when I spent a brief period working in Auckland’s oldest bike shop called T Whites. I mulled over this idea of collecting the stories, politics, business and social side of the cycling industry. I run everything either through the website, http://www.pedalingpodcast.com or via my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/pedalingpodcast If you have any feedback on my journey home, the show itself or recommend anyone I should speak to on the journey, follow the above links and get in touch.

Want to know the best ways a company like Worralls can support you? Or curious to know what makes a successful retail shop? What is Pedaling Podcast?
