Description

Perfectly Imperfect is the show for those who are searching for growth and acceptance. As two Asian American women, Christine Chen and Regina Fang started having real and raw conversations after work 10+ years ago about our community and us as 20 something women. Now we’ve turned our 3am talks to this podcast where we can openly share thoughts + feels about mental health, friendships, and life lessons we’ve learned along the way.
We create meaningful and deep connections that make you feel loved and seen. You are not alone, come join our perfectly imperfect conversations!

As 2022 is winding down, we wanted to share some lessons we've learned about how to grow more meaningful and vulnerable adult friendships. Not all friendships are built the same and it can definitely be challenging to decide to either evolve with your friends or know when you've outgrown each other. We also chat about how to be your own friend first and how to attract the friendships that foster deeper connections.  Follow us here! We're diving right into this season with the most requested topic: intergenerational trauma. This is a topic we've talked about before in Ep 85 (feel free to listen to that again as well), but since then, we've learned even more about identifying the patterns, learning how everything is connected, and sharing our own experiences on how we're trying different tools to break the cycle within ourselves and in our own families. As 2021 winds down and we begin to dream about all the amazing goals we'd like to reach for 2022, we're faced with the same questions: What's my purpose? How do I want to keep growing? What impact do I want to have on my world? In other words, how do you become "an artist of life and start creating your dream life through self discovery, self love, and living a meaningful life?" This week, our very special guest, Aileen Xu (@Lavendaire), not only has the answers for these questions but also the very practical guides on starting this journey for yourself. She's a mogul, content creator, entrepreneur, and a beautiful inspirational soul who we've learned so much from. Tune in on our final episode this year! Cheers!! Ever felt like someone was mad at you for no reason? Or that you felt sad when someone else got a promotion? Projection happens when you least expect it, but it can feel just as painful as the actual event happening to you. This week, we dive deep into the situations where we noticed that we were projecting or being projected onto. The scenarios can be hard to detect, and often times make more sense after it has happened, but when you do the inner work, you can learn to distinguish what is truly bothering you or the other person.  Subscribe to us here and get early access to all our episode releases! https://anchor.fm/perfectlyimperfectpodcast/subscribe Follow us here! What's the real deal with relationships? As women, we often go into dating blinded by the fantasy of LOOVE. Sometimes it's the Disney princess fairytale type of love or the chaotic but passionate K-drama love, but at the end of the day, we as young women were taught to stay innocent, never talk about sex, and always aim to please. This week our girlfriend Linda Dong, joins us as we dive into love advice we would give to our younger selves. We reflect on the patterns and self sabotaging ways that affected our past relationships or even how we date now. Thank you to our sponsor BetterHelp! There’s a saying that “image is everything.” In today’s social media run world, the pressures of that mentality are more overwhelming than ever before. With a click or a swipe, anyone and everyone can see what your life is about, how you look, how talented you are, as well as being constantly bombarded with images of how we SHOULD look, act, and live. We're often left with the question, who am I really vs. who I want people to think I am? This week, we talk to our amazing friends Jason and Justin Rodjanapanyakul who share their journeys from moving down to LA to pursue their Youtube dreams to now discovering what their next chapter holds. When do you know it's time to move on? How do you make the next step when it can be scary and uncertain? And how does one learn what your real truths are? Sexuality is something that is not often talked about in the Asian American community. We grow up very sheltered and everything is very black or white in terms of what is allowed and accepted.. However as we get older, we learn that the spectrum of attraction, gender, sexuality runs so much deeper than what we’ve been taught. This week, we are so excited to have our dear friend, Kenson Lee, open up and talk honestly about his journey with his sexuality. During the pandemic, he allowed himself to explore and share what he’s been learning about what sexual attraction means to him including his fetishes. When we were kids, our parents were our heroes - they seemed to do no wrong and taught us everything that we needed to know. As we got older and experienced life outside of our family dynamic, things started to change - we started to question those differences. Our instinct became to fight back, either with our parents or within ourselves.  This week, we share the family trauma we’ve experienced and how that has shaped us throughout our lives, especially now as adults. From mental to physical abuse, we talk about how intergenerational trauma has cycled into our lives, how we’re learning to recognize it, and how we’re breaking those toxic patterns.  Thank you to our sponsor BetterHelp! Are you an only child? Do you have siblings? Then this week's episode is made just for you! We invite back Michael, Christine's younger brother, to talk about all the pros and cons of being an only child vs. having siblings. Regina grew up in a household where she was the only child and got all the attention, good or bad. Christine was an only child until she turned 5 and Michael came into the picture! DISCLAIMER: Before we get started with this week’s episode about our thoughts on Disney’s new live action Mulan, we wanted to address the controversies surrounding the film. We understand the frustrations and concerns including the main actress, YiFei’s, comments on the Hong Kong protests/police brutality and Disney’s decision to film Xinjiang where there are active Concentration Camps. We do not in anyway condone their behavior or actions and believe that this is something that Disney needs to address directly, and we hope they do so soon out of the respect of the one million lives that are still in suffering.  With that being said, we respect everyone’s decision as to why they would or wouldn’t want to watch Mulan. This episode is meant to dissect the film based on our own love of the original animated one and the impact it has had on us as Asian Women, we hope you enjoy this episode. WARNING: SPOILERS Soooo, let's talk Disney's new live action Mulan. This week, we invite our incredibly talented sister, Minji, to help us dissect the film from an industry perspective, and we have a LOT to say. Having grown up with the animated film, we each have an emotional attachment to Mulan; she was the first Disney princess who looked like us and inspired us with her courage, perseverance, and loyalty. So, how did Disney do with the live action retelling? Listen in to this week's episode! P.s. Spoilers! Follow Minji here! Instagram: @minjeezy, Podcast: First of All Follow us here!
