Episode 13 - Idea Dump

2016-09-0733:59

In this episode I ramble on. A lot. I ramble on for a while. You should check it out. I may not have had the most coherence, but I did manage the cleanest sounding audio yet…maybe. Give me your feedback on that! Special thanks to Andy Lenox for use of some of his music for the intro and outro of the podcast. Listen to Cranial Grass (the one I used) and more at diver.bandcamp.com. As always all ideas and names presented here are property of Phantom Nimbus Games and Beau Severson.
The podcast rises! Again! After a new contract change I have a daily commute again. That means if I can use my travel time to write my game design stuff down, I will spout it into the aether for all you fine people again. Today I talk about a few designs I have kicking around in the old noodle and how my tabletop RPG obsession has been spinning into my design work. Mostly I just drone on about game designs, but check it out anyway. Also, this one i [...]
Like a Phoenix from the ashes I arise once more to spout out my misguided insight. This week I talk even more Tabletop RPGs. Rules-light systems, the merging of that concept and board games, and how play by post works for me. Check it out, or don’t. Either way, I’m back, baby. Special thanks to Andy Lenox for use of some of his music for the intro and outro of the podcast. Listen to Cranial Grass (the one I used) and more at diver.bandcamp.com.
Having had a recent position change this episode is up a bit late, and I didn’t have any new projects to discuss. So I go on a misguided insight rant about story and mechanics as it relates to both board games and tabletop RPGs. Special thanks to Andy Lenox for use of some of his music for the intro and outro of the podcast. Listen to Cranial Grass (the one I used) and more at diver.bandcamp.com. As always all ideas and names pr [...]
In this week’s PhantomCast I discuss more clarifications on Tavern Dice. I also discuss my own fan-made mashup called One Night Ultimate Sheriff. I also do a very quick review of Monza! the children’s color-matching racing game. It is quite good. Last I forgot I also wanted to talk again about Cash and Grab, an early prototype of mine I have been finding new ideas for. Special thanks to Andy Lenox for use of some of his music for the intro and outro of the podcast. Listen to Cranial Grass (the one I used) and more at diver.bandcamp.com.
Sorry for being so late with the post for this. As I mentioned on Twitter we had no kid in the house this weekend so I got SOO much sleep. It was fantastic. This weeks episode features much of my signature rambling, on my creative process, and a review of Tiny Epic Galaxies. My new favorite little space game. I will be posting a more in-depth review on my blog eventually. Check this out, and I look forward to talking more game design next week. I also hint at a giveaway that is indeed coming true. Check out more details here.
In this episode I am already pulling a game back after shelving it only two weeks ago. Potions Class is getting a makeover, manicure, pedicure, the whole works. Check out this episode if you want to hear anything and everything Potions Class related, in addition to the new version of it, Tavern Dice. This whole episode is decidedly dicey. Special thanks to Andy Lenox for use of some of his music for the intro and outro of the podc [...]
Building upon last weeks episode I choose to openly ramble on about tabletop RPGs for nearly 40 minutes. I discuss the things I think make some systems just primed for a more entertaining time, as well as where I would like my proposed system to land on the spectrum of RPGs. I also seem to exude a love for the End of the World RPG system from Fantasy Flight Games. Enjoy! Special thanks to Andy Lenox for use of some of his music for the intro and outro of the podcast. Listen to Cranial Grass (the one I used) and more at diver.bandcamp.com.
This week I talk all about RPG systems, podcasts, and my own ill conceived thoughts on making my own. Listen as I make the rookie mistake of biting off more than I can chew as I talk all RPG all the time. You can even hear my own misguided insight into micro-RPGs and one-shot style systems. Buckle up, and I’m very sorry.  Special thanks to Andy Lenox for use of some of his music for the intro and outro of the podcast. Listen to Cranial Grass (the one I used) and more at diver.bandcamp.com.
On this installment of the PhantomCast I ramble on a bit about the #ThriftStoreDesignChallenge I made up and started doing, as well as more on Dicey Dungeon Delve. For my misguided insight I tackle two topics. What to do with feedback, and how my games go from twinklings in my mind meats to prototype and, if I’m really lucky, to being sold. Special thanks to Andy Lenox for suggesting part of the topic this week, and giving me use of some of his music for the intro and outro of the podcast. Listen to Cranial Grass (the one I used) and more at diver.bandcamp.com.
Episode 3 - Now In 3D!

Episode 3 - Now In 3D!

2015-08-2427:40

This week I will be discussing what game currently has all of my free design and development time. It’s a great little idea called Dicey Dungeon Delve. I also try and school ya’ll in what it means to be a press-your-luck dice game. Unfortunately it’s a very misguided lesson. I’m also planning on scheduling post releases for Mondays. It’s almost like I’m a real podcaster! Enjoy. As always all ideas and names presented here are property of Phantom Nimbus Games and Beau Severson.
In this installment of the PhantomCast I discuss how the first playtest of my game prototype Shared Resources went, another project I have on the backburner called Cash and Grab, and just when I couldn’t sound anymore misguided I discuss what I know about roll-and-move as a feature versus action points and card draws. As always all ideas and names presented here are property of Phantom Nimbus Games and Beau Severson.
In the first episode I talk about the two games I’m currently working on Shared Resources and Space Junkies. Also I give my own misguided insight into rummy style games and what I think I know about them. Enjoy. As always all ideas and names presented here are property of Phantom Nimbus Games and Beau Severson.
