In the sixth installment of his series Living By Design on the fan-favorite “Phil in the Blanks” podcast, Dr. Phil continues his discussion of the 16 steps people can take to come out on top - from learning to claim and accept praise, to knowing your real currency. For more information: https://www.drphilintheblanks.com/
If you want to be a winner, Dr. Phil says there are 16 things you need to do to get ahead and come out on top. On this week’s all new Living By Design Phil in the Blanks podcast, learn what you can do to maximize your position in life.“I am going to tell you why winners win and losers lose, and trust me, it is not an accident and it’s not luck,” Dr. Phil says. “You could be a Goody Two-shoes, or you can be a winner; but you can’t be both.”
Every 92 seconds, another person experiences sexual assault. That’s according to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. On this week’s podcast, Dr. Phil discusses campus safety, sexual assault and what parents can do to better prepare their kids for college and the best resources students can use to reach out for help.
Veteran police sergeant and author of 400 Things Cops Know and Police Craft, Adam Plantinga, is Dr. Phil’s guest on this week’s Phil in the Blanks podcast. Ever wonder what a cop knows? How they think? What they feel? How they cope with the streets? How they do their jobs? Sgt. Adam Plantinga knows the answers to all these questions. That’s because he’s been a cop for almost twenty years and he’s smart. And funny. And honest. Thankfully for us he’s turned his life into best-selling books that share his sometimes shocking, breathtaking experiences and insights- books that screenwriters and crime novelists use to help them create believable characters and stories. Turns out being a cop is not at all like what we see on television and in the movies. What do cops think about the communities they serve? Racial profiling? Gun control? Interrogation? Diversity training? Fearing for one’s life? Dealing with the bad ten percent ninety percent of the time? Their mental health? What do they really need? If you care about how to understand and help the men and women who keep you safe then you need to get yourself settled in and listen to Dr. Phil’s conversation with San Francisco Police Officer and Author Adam Plantinga. Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Mary Lambert’s says she was abused as a child, attempted suicide at 17, turned to drugs and alcohol before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and survived multiple sexual assaults throughout her childhood. Her poetry collection “Shame is an Ocean I Swim Across” explores themes of childhood abuse, sexual trauma, body acceptance and mental illness, stemming from the entertainer’s personal experiences.“I'm really impressed by it - and impressed by your courage,” Dr. Phil tells the artist on this week’s “Phil in the Blanks” podcast.
Robin McGraw is a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and best-selling author. She also just happens to be married to Dr. Phil! “I fell in love with you that very first night,” Robin tells her husband, whom she fondly refers to as “Phillip” on this week’s “Phil in the Blanks” podcast.  The couple, who celebrates 43 years of married life on August 14, talk about their family, key moments in their life together, Robin’s considerable accomplishments as a businesswoman and advocate, and life in the public eye. Leading body language expert human behavior analyst and author, Susan Constantine, talks deception detection, ways to catch a liar and decoding the truth behind lies on this week’s “Phil in the Blanks” podcast from Dr. Phil. Susan looks for "deceptive language – liars appeal to your logic, often using words to remove them out of the event. Every word is important because the subject selects them, it’s unconscious and provides a wealth of information." More information: https://www.drphilintheblanks.com/
Americans are fascinated by athletes. There is an entire media industry built around critiquing their work, assessing their value and holding them accountable to the adoring public that craves their success and pays their salaries. Athletes rarely allow the public to see beyond carefully crafted branding strategies. Some shun the public’s attention altogether, some crave that attention and can’t live without out it. Metta World Peace is one of those rare athletes who makes no pretense of hiding who he is and what he’s about. Metta has struck a chord with Americans. Whether by design or not he is more transparent and accessible than most athletes and exerts far less control over what he allows us to see. When he won a championship ring with the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most recognizable and valuable sports franchises on Earth, he thanked his psychiatrist in his post-game comments. Not the kind of thing most athletes would do. But our guest has had to struggle for everything and knows what is real accomplishment. He was raised on public basketball courts in New York City where people have been killed over petty personal disputes. He has had to look over his shoulder his whole life. In one of the most competitive sports, he became a first-round pick in the NBA, an All-Star, won the NBA’s coveted Defensive Player of the Year Award, and of course, became a World Champion. While achieving the impossible he struggled to leave his past behind. He has fought his battle with mental health in front of the cameras and has become an important voice in understanding mental health and how mental health problems impact athletes and athletics. He has come so far from his rough and tumble roots that he won the J. Walter Kennedy Award given to the NBA player who shows outstanding service and dedication to the community. Of all the things he has achieved that is among the most impressive, because it shows the true colors of this playground warrior.
Renowned neurosurgeon and concussion expert Dr. J. Patrick Johnson talks about how medicine is changing and the markers that can tell whether someone is likely to have Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) - the brain condition associated with repeated blows to the head. Plus, Dr. Phil talks about safety tips for children with Tracie Arlington Founder and lead instructor of Play It Safe Defense. She’ll cover empowering children with knowledge and techniques to combat verbal defense, bullying, sexual assault prevention and more.

oh my God dr. Phil I just listen to murder and mystery The disappearance of that 7 year old boy I could have written it better! you had horrendous grammatical errors in your speech and major voice transgressions to imply guilt or innocence by raising or lowering the timbre of your voice and I just want to ask you when the hell is enough money for you that you stop selling s***? I loved your show after oprah about what was it 18 years ago when you actually seem to give people in sight into behavior and ways to change that in a positive manner. now it just seems as though you are exposing people on your show to be laughed at and shamed and spending way too much time on the moments where the audience is having a really big response and any real work is turned over to your mini minions and their programs where are you send people in the last 10 minutes of your show to get real help. I am ashamed of you for a good old boy two now have two podcast that only appeal to the emotion ality of the issue and what is your f****** excuse to provide entertainment where to make more money??

I am enjoying the series greatly, thank you.   I would like to hear more on “[one’s] way of being in this world,” how one is presenting themselves to the world, and “owning your statement.”  It is my experience my statement is frequently misinterpreted.  I wear a lab coat over a generic, dull business suit of solid, quiet colours {Occasionally a protective apron, biohazard, or clean suit} in my office or in the lab with my hair up in a bun or long braid.  I mean jacket, high-collared shirt, trousers, and flat Doc Martin type steel-toed shoes.  I am not showing any flesh save my hands and face and I am overweight.  I have sensitive skin so no makeup, no piercings, or wild hair colour. I have considered what people say when I am not present.  Conference calls:  Mute Button Fails reveal much.  Professional, frank, and personable sums it up.  However if it is a video conference, there follows emails of how lovely I am and would I consider a date when they are in town. My statement is brilliant scientist, Dr. with a huge brain who is clueless about anything pop-culture or fashion, slightly frumpy, and would rather cuddle a microscope.  Someone – both sexes –almost daily makes a serious proposition.  Hearing more of your accumulated knowledge on “[one’s] way of being in this world” would be helpful to all who are misread.

Thanks for the little peek into your relationship. it's nice to know that even people we see on television every day are more like we are than you would ever think. It's nice to hear a couple who are still in love after all those years.
