Description

Welcome to Philosophication, the show where two non-experts philosophize about all things complicated, controversial, or simply interesting. We’ll tackle topics ranging from morality and ethics to current events, from politics to pop culture, and from philosophy to whatever else we happen to find interesting.

We don’t claim to be experts, and we’re sure to get things wrong from time to time, but one thing you will always find here is a commitment to free and open dialogue on a variety of complex and often difficult topics. We believe one of the best ways to improve our world is to practice and hone our ability to engage in these types of discussions in a civil and honest manner, even when we strongly disagree on a fundamental level. If we improve our abilities in this area, we improve our ability to solve every other problem our society faces.

Join us as we attempt to cut through empty rhetoric, look past simple talking points, and challenge deeply held beliefs.

It doesn't take much time on social media before you'll find someone reflexively ridiculing an expert who said something they disagree with on some political or ideological topic. Maybe we should not do that most of the time. For people on the political right, it might be easy to laugh and get excited over the seeming incompetence of the Democratic party lately. I'm going to try to convince you that maybe we shouldn't be so excited about it. This was recorded after the first sexual assault allegation came out, but before Christine Blasey Ford's name was released to the public. Both of us stand by everything we said. We also discuss Serena Williams' meltdown at the US Open final, the fatal shooting of Botham Jean in Dallas, systemic racism, and Colin Kaepernick. Michael and Jason discuss right-wing aversion to political dissent, shouting abortions, Kelly Marie Tran, and the relentless oppression of Michael's race (gingers) by the massive ball of gas at the center of our solar system. Note: this episode was uploaded late, so some of the topics are a little outdated as of the time of upload. But our first episode was uploaded more than 70 years after the fact, so we're getting better. Music from Jukedeck - create your own at http://jukedeck.com
