Description
Phonemic awareness is critical to the development of reading and spelling. Phonemes are the smallest unit of sound in a word. They are hard to hear in words because of their short duration, and because of the variation in the ways that they are articulated. Bank Street School for Children (SFC) has developed a program to teach phonemic awareness and manipulation explicitly using techniques from a program called SOUNDS IN MOTION.
This collection was developed by Ellie Costa, SFC teacher, and Karina Otoya-Knapp, Graduate School faculty member. Together, they collaborated to organize and create this curriculum for graduate students at Bank Street.
