Description
When hobbies become obsessions, we often like to share what we know and love about them with others. Although we have dedicated the most time learning the ins/outs of beer, brewing, and breweries, we have also extended our knowledge on those things that complement it: bourbon, wine, coffee, food, and cooking. Listen in to Evan, Ryan, Mark, and Dan, and with periodic guests, dissect those crafts that we love to imbibe.

It's been a spell but it wasn't long before Evan and Ryan played catch up with beer news (local and national), sipped on some barrel aged stouts, and sampled some bourbon. Lots to catch up with including the Olympics and the Halftime Show! Tune in to hear about our beers (from Weldwerks Brewing Co., Aslin Brewing Co., and Triptych Brewing Co.) and our bourbons (Weller Antique 107 and EH Taylor Single Barrel). Cheers from P+P!!
Got a special one for you this episode! Our friend Pat shared the entire 2021 BCBS catalogue with us for a special tasting of this years' offerings. Evan, Kyle, and Ryan debriefed after our tasting of the full line up and give you our picks and breakdowns from the reserve bottles to the unique variants. It was a great night with even better beers to get us excited about this upcoming Black Friday release of Bourbon County!
Wow, it's been a while but we couldn't have been more excited to share some time with Adam Sommer of Evergreen Farm Brewing in Metamora, IL. Adam has been working steadily to bring a brewery to his family farm and create a destination for drinkers to gather on the family farm, enjoy a wide variety of styles of beer and take in the scenery. You are sure to find a beer you will like with a broad spectrum of styles and enjoy a pint on the quiet and picturesque setting. Our time spent at the brewery was also shared with a group of bourbon enthusiast called the Whiskey Trust where we no doubt were able to make some new friends! Enjoy the episode!!
In a super busy summer, Ryan and Evan sat down to catch up on good beers and great summer times. Ryan gives a breakdown of a recent share with some friends and their favorite beers of the night - unfruited lambics and barleywines! We also talk about what's left for the rest of the summer and what beers we are looking forward to enjoying the most!
Ryan, Evan, and Bryan sat down for some Weldwerks Brewing Medianoche, first for the Reserve and then for the Bananas Foster. Adjuncts you say? Sure, but done with such detail that these are always so enjoyable! Recently, Belle Meade released batch #2 of their honey bourbon and since none of us won, we snagged a Starlight Distillery version to see what all the excitement is about. It was great to get back together for an in person recording so tune in to enjoy!
For the love of lagers!! What a fun time Ryan and Evan had talking with owner and head brewer Thomas Beckmann of Goldfinger Brewing in Downers Grove, IL. Not yet a full year open, they are creating excitement in their community, a passion for celebrating tradition, and some seriously crispy lagers! Tom talked about how his brewery came to be, his family brewing roots, and how they fit in their community. Tune in to hear about one of our favorite new regional breweries making their mark for their light, refreshing beers!
Evan and Ryan invite Charles to join in on a music and Chicago focused episode. We've shared lots of great beer with him at bottle shares in the past and wanted to catch up with him to see how his enthusiasm of Chicago beers and music has been going. We talk special vinyl records, Phase Three Brewing, and why a non-fruited lambic is best to drink for the rest of your life. It was great to catch up with Charles and we look forward to cracking a good bottle soon with him! Cheers!!
Daniel and Evan sit down for another chat and talk lots of topics including when we getting back to drinking at our favorite watering holes: breweries, dive bars, and pubs. When, where? Also on deck for topics include avocado water, the Super Bowl, and getting outta the cold snap here in the Midwest. Tune in and cheers!
Ryan and Evan had a great time hosting to Mike Zoller, midwest editor of PorchDrinking.com, to talk Chicago beer and all things current in craft beer. Check him out on Instagram (@chicagobeer) for great craft beer insight and cheeky content about the absurdities we see in the industry. We got to talk about what Chicago is doing great in the current climate and what he likes about the city which loves craft beer so much. Tune in to hear all this and what Mike considers his desert island 4-pack. Cheers from P+P!!
Ryan and Evan catch up on how the 2020 Holiday season went and start the new year off right. We were fortunate to sample some beer sent to us from Waypost Brewing Co. in Fennville, MI, which was a great zwickel style lager. Musings on the Kyle and Evan annual home-brew stout, online beer ordering apps, great selfies and of course a sip of some Swish from Bissel Bros. Brewing Co. out of Portland, ME. Cheers!!
Ryan, Evan, Brad, and Kyle virtually gather to discuss their stand out beers and breweries of the year 2020. It must have been the year of the lager because many great lagers showed up on our lists in addition to some obvious beers (did someone say B:B:T from Side Project??) and some surprises like the one from Homes Brewing. Some breweries pivoted amazingly this year and we also talked about how well we did in our local liquor stores allocated bourbon raffle (it didn't go great). Tune in!!
Evan and Ryan caught up with a couple friends they have know virtually for a number of years. While never having a beer in person together before (well, Evan and Nate did a long time ago), Max and Nate joined in to see where all the hype is these days as excitement has moved more into the bourbon world. We still enjoyed some good beers on the chat but much of the conversation shifted towards spirits. Tune in to get our take and enjoy a fun hour with Nate and Max.
Ryan, Bryan, and Evan sit down with more than enough barleywines to sample for a weekday evening. Notable entries from Side Project Brewing, Fremont Brewing, and Bottle Logic Brewing round out the best of the sampling. Get yourself ready for the breakdown and tune in!
We finally got a gang of four together and enjoyed a night discussing the best parts of our summer on Ryan's back porch. Great night to be outside and sip on some stouts and talk our favorite beers and food over the last couple of months. Ryan, Mark, Kyle, and Evan (with Brad joining us off mic) enjoyed some great beers from Bottle Logic Brewing, Side Project Brewing, Funk Factory Geuzeria and more. From BBQ to homemade Korean Fried Chicken, we all enjoyed some wonderful meals this summer - tune in to hear all about them!
Last time Daniel and Evan sat down for a chat was the hot sauce episode pre-COVID and a lot has happened. We got to catch up on our summers, favorite beers, and what podcasts we are digging right now. Sampled the new wild ale from Bearded Owl Brewing and touched on topics like what the fall sports season looks like in the pandemic era. Also on the docket was the recent backlash against unfriendly patrons at Short's Brewing in Michigan and why you gotta play nice with those businesses navigating their new rules. Listen in!!
We are back! Yes, summer got busy, but not too busy for coffee! Ryan and Evan talked to Neal Beegle of Alert Coffee Co. from Tampa, FL. He's a friend of the beer world who moved his interests from home roasting coffee to starting his own business. Listen in to hear us talk about favorite regions, how Neal procures his beans, to why he partnered with a local brewery for his coffee shop. Don't forget to snag some beans from their site alertcoffeeco.com!!
Ryan, Kyle, and Evan sat outside on a beautiful night to record an appropriately social distance episode to give some last minute ideas for the best Father's Day gifts one could find on short notice. Mainly some beer, wine, and whiskey ideas plus kitchen, BBQ, and cooking gadgets. We sampled some beers in the first half of the episode from Phase Three Brewing, Sideward Brewing, and the new home-brew Evan just finished. The second half was dedicated to some bourbon sampling which expanded our tastings of some well known and not hard to find bourbons. Enjoy!!
This year kicked off great from the start for Norse Brewing Company in Wake Forest, NC. Although the pandemic has altered the plans for the brewery, it hasn't slowed co-owner Chris Jorgensen and head brewer Brad Wynn down from making a mighty return. It's all about community for the brewery, making their taproom a destination for locals to return to with plenty of great beer and food. Chris shared his passion for building a welcoming brewery where it always feels like home. Brad has deep brewing roots and has had some extra time recently to fill the tanks for the return of thirsty drinkers. Listen in to hear all about how Norse Brewing Company is truly the heart of their community!
Evan and Ryan had a great conversation with Zach Dobeck (owner) and Nick Kelly (communications director) of Kinship Brewing Co. in Waukee, IA. This yet-to-be opened brewery is building excitement and community around its brand and work is underway on their location which will include lots of room for families and even a dog park. Zach speaks to his roots as an long-time, avid home brewer and his savvy in building a business that looks to be more than just a place to grab a beer, but a destination. Nick shares his motivation to join the team and get the word out in a city that has a vibrant craft beer environment. Don't miss our on our recording with Zach and Nick as they share their passion in creating a craft beer destination in the heart of the midwest. Cheers from P+P!
Ryan, Evan, Mark, and Daniel all got an opportunity to talk to Neil Fisher of WeldWerks Brewing Co. based in Greeley, CO. One of our favorite breweries and one that pushes the envelope of beer, Neil shared with us the inception of WeldWerks and how they transitioned into one of the most well know breweries in the country. From their creative adjunct beers, to thoughtful selection of bourbon barrels for the Medianoche series, their creativity pushes the boundaries of what we know about modern beer. Listen in to our conversation, you won't want to miss it!!
