Work Culture is one of the most important pieces to the business. It's the heart of the business and it becomes a guide to how your team and employees behave in the office. There are many companies out there are have fantastic culture and you can see it within the people who work there. Culture creates massive growth within a company because everyone has drank the Kool-Aid, they have bought in and believe in the business. . Janney Roofing was a company I helped build from the ground up. Derek Janney was able to create such an awesome and strong work culture for the company that it grew into a $50 million dollar company. The growth was fast and tremendous that it caught the attention of a Hedge Fund in New York. Janney Roofing was later acquired. .If you want to grow your company, start with culture. I'm always happy to help. Let me know what you want to know in the comments down below! Love you guys, see you in the next one! . . I started my career in Corporate America, but wanted more for myself and my family. I quickly found success in Roofing, specially, Tile Roofs. I moved to Costa Rica for five years and continued my entrepreneurial journey there with Real Estate Development. Those five years taught me the ins and outs of clay tile and have been specializing in Tile for over 35 years! I came back to America and now sit on the board for the Florida Building Code for Roofing. I'm also a member of the Florida's Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA). Pivoting Through Life is all about making necessary changes within life and business so that you can grow and become successful. Today, we talk about three companies whose business is completely different now than what they had initially started out. This wraps up Season 3, The Pivot. I hope you enjoyed this season as much as I did. Season 4, The Buy In is coming soon... Love you guys, see you in the next one! . Starbucks is one of the most famous companies who pivoted. They went from selling beans and machines to selling already brewed coffee. .Groupon is one of my favorite examples. They shifted their business model and created a huge platform that numerous people use today. They've been able to partner up with local businesses. .Twitter pivoted out of necessity. They were not finding traction, profits were little to nothing, and they were on the verge of shutting down. They really pulled through, turned things around to create one of the most used, household social media platforms of all time. Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, he has now rebranded to X. We'll see if this rebrand successful of not, but either way, it's here. . . . A Little About Me: I am an Indiana native who migrated down to Central Florida. Took a bit of a break to spend time with family and welcome some new additions to the family! We are back and better than ever. Today we pick up with the future of roofing in the state of Florida. We talk about solar, the implications of e-verify with immigrants, and the mess insurance companies are creating for homeowners. . Solar panels have become increasingly popular and I believe they will only continue the trend. However, solar isn't where I would like it to be at its current state. There are some kinks to be straightened out before I get them myself. .With recent legislation from Ron DeSantis and his team, the construction industry finds itself in a tight squeeze with projects and labor. The implications of shifting the responsibility to the business owners will increase bidding regarding future projects. For homeowners, this may mean your roof quotes may increase as the shortage of labor continues. Projects will move forward, but in a more expensive, maybe slower pace..Homeowner's Insurance in Florida has been a hot topic for a while. As these companies change their policies, homeowners are left with less options. Premiums are going up, HOA fees are skyrocketing for many older buildings, and responsibility is shifted to the homeowner. I believe in time, the insurance issues will correct itself as the pendulum swings, but when will that be? Who knows... . . . Today we are talking about how to tap into a new industry. Breaking through and finding success in a market where you may not be the expert in can be scary, but very doable. The key to success when you're trying new things is being okay with hiring the experts and letting go of control. . This isn't a new concept. Many investors want a piece of the pie when they see an emerging market prove itself over time. Just because an industry is lucrative, doesn't mean everyone knows what they're doing. Finding quality mentors and hiring business coaches are what can make a difference in your company, especially when you have little to no background knowledge in a specific field. . . . A change in the pecking order can make or break a company. There's a couple of leadership styles that can help define key roles in each department, but you need to understand who the employees are and what works well with your manager. A change in leadership can be seamless or it can be troublesome. If you're getting acquired, you might want to give your employees a heads up and reassure them. No one wants to be kept in the dark. . The difference between a CEO and a COO is how they interact within the company. a CEO is the face, the visionary, etc. The COO is the driver, in the grind day to day, ensuring things are getting done. Both are vital, but you need to decide which one you are because you can't be both. . . Listen to the podcast on-the-go: https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/gxSLuIa8Gxb . . . If you're looking for funding from a bank and/or investors, they will want to know how much your making. Cash flow is super important for a business. It can be the quickest way to see if your business is gaining momentum. You can build traction or track your progression on social media. This is especially helpful if you have a DTC business. Navigating social media and the digital world can be pivotal in the early stages. You'll see traction ramp up as your demographic continues to adopt your product, service, etc . However you see traction, ensure you can track it. You need to be able to measure your success. As you scale, you're revenue will grow, but margins will shrink. No one likes getting ripped off, but what do you do when you get ripped off? There are many options out there: you can resort to violence (I do not recommend), legal routes (can be costly), or good ole negotiations. Whatever route you take, will depend on your situation. With 7 billion people in this world, and counting, there will always be someone trying to rip your idea off of you, especially if you're leading the market. . I've seen people rip off or scam others and I've been ripped off by some previous homeowners. The best way to handle issues like this is to implement good business practices. Try to be understanding, see if there's some sort of resolution both parties can agree on. If needed, you may want to proceed with legal action. Most small businesses can afford to shell out the capital needed to fund that journey, but maybe you can negotiate and come to agreeable terms. . Whatever you choose - be smart, be understanding, and if you have any questions, let me know in the comments and I'd be happy to help! . . Negotiations are a part of life. We negotiate, give and take, everyday. Today, I talk about the four most common negotiation strategies. Perhaps they may be considered more mindsets, than tactics, but they are prevalent nonetheless. We go over Compete, Collaborate, Compromise, and Accommodate and some examples for each. Some deals are easier or harder than other, depending on what strategy or mind you choose and the other party adopts. Ideally, both parties would be able to collaborate or compromise to make the dream work. It's all about what each party needs and what is feasible. Don't be afraid to take the risks or walk away. I came back to America and now sit on the board for the Florida Building Code for Roofing. I'm also a member of the Florida's Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA). As I continue with my roofing business, I thoroughly enjoy helping and mentoring other entrepreneurs, guiding them to success! . . Say hello with the links below!
