This is an excellent episode. The lack of productivity growth and innovation is rather well understood. People often use the example of the weight brothers discovering flight and how that would be impossible in our modern government regulatory environment. All of those inventions that you mention would be so difficult to get to market right now, with red tape and compliance costs, that is not really much of a surprise that we have stagnated a bit. I was really hoping you would go deeper into that causation part of the story, but that's what econtalk and freakonomics are for I suppose.
