Inflammation is certainly a buzz word these days, isn’t it? Every time you turn around, you’re reading about something that’s causing inflammation in your body. It’s a minefield of misinformation and here to help clear up some of that confusion is educator and author, Linda Tyler, who recently released the book, The Plant-Based Anti-Inflammatory Cookbook.Because inflammation is an emerging area of research, that makes it ripe for misleading advice and a lot of poor information. In fact, most can't even define exactly what it is.Inflammation isn't all bad. In fact, it's actually your body's way of protecting itself against disease or injury. But what's happening, primarily because of the standard American diet, is that your body is constantly in a “fight or flight response” creating chronic inflammation. It’s this damaging state that can play a dangerous role in diseases, many types of cancer, aging, and even weight gain. The good news is that you can reduce inflammation through your diet, and eating a healthy plant-based diet is especially helpful for calming the immune system. The Plant-Based Anti-Inflammatory Cookbook delivers tasty plant-based recipes centered around foods known to play especially helpful roles in the fight against inflammation, including ginger, turmeric, garlic, berries, citrus, and high-fiber foods such as legumes and whole grains. She also shares tips and recipes from her cookbook that incorporate all of these superstar foods. This conversation inspires mindful eating habits and highlights the joy of nourishing anti-inflammatory meals. Dr. Rak Jotwani - aka Dr. RAK - is a lifestyle medicine physician who has the all-too familiar story…working long stressful hours in the hospital, eating the standard American diet, and managing crippling depression. It got to the point where he couldn’t be present for his own wife and kids because he just felt so tired and overwhelmed. Dr. Rak shares his experiences with burnout in the medical field and the profound impact of meditation and a plant-based diet on his well-being. He now emphasizes the importance of whole food, plant-based nutrition and conscious living through his virtual lifestyle medicine practice, RAK Your Life.Dr. Rak highlights the pillars of his practice - roots, awareness, and kindness - focusing on finding your personal “north star,” becoming more compassionate, and making kind decisions that are both good for us and make us feel good. Instead of seeing change as a punishment, he sees it as an opportunity for improvement and THAT’s the medicine he practices daily now – helping others establish belief that they can make a change, that, yes, they can RAK their own lives. Episode WebpageWatch the Episode on YouTubeCOMPLEMENT: Use code PLANTSTRONG for 30% off at https://lovecomplement.com/pages/plantstrong-special-offer Upcoming Events:Black Mountain Retreat - April 14th-19th, 2024 https://plantstrongfoods.com/pages/2024-black-mountain-retreat Sedona Retreat - October 8th-13th, 2024 https://plantstrongfoods.com/pages/2024-sedona-retreat Leave Us a Voicemail QuestionLeave us a voicemail: https://www.speakpipe.com/plantstrong Follow PLANTSTRONG and Rip Esselstynhttps://plantstrongfoods.com/ https://www.facebook.com/GoPlantstrong https://www.instagram.com/goplantstrong/https://www.instagram.com/ripesselstyn/ Let Us Help Your PLANTSTRONG JourneyUse Code: KALE20 for $20 off Annual Subscription at https://home.mealplanner.plantstrong.com/ https://myplantstrong.com/b/trailblazer Follow the PLANTSTRONG Podcast and Give the Show a 5-star RatingApple PodcastsSpotifyTheme Music for Episodehttps://app.soundstripe.com/songs/10845

From “Chicago Med” to a cozy Michigan farm…Today, we talk love, compassion, and self-care with actress, musician, and philanthropist, Torrey DeVitto.  You may know Torrey from her six-years on the TV Show "Chicago Med" playing Natalie Manning, or from her many other film and TV credits, but she also spends a tremendous amount of time advocating for causes that encourage more compassion and conscious living. Torrey is a self-proclaimed, “Jill of all Trades.” Her father, Liberty DeVitto, is the longtime drummer for Billy Joel so it’s no surprise that music was her first passion - excelling in violin at age 6. In addition to being a touring musician and actress, Torrey is also a dancer and model, where she works to promote eco-friendly fashion and makeup. These days, though, you’re more than likely to find her on her farm in Michigan hanging with her new fiancé and having the occasional sloth day, which we definitely all need from time to time.Follow her on Instagram at @torreydevittoEpisode WebpageWatch the Episode on YouTubeCOMPLEMENT: Use code PLANTSTRONG for 30% off at https://lovecomplement.com/pages/plantstrong-special-offer Upcoming Events:Black Mountain Retreat - April 14th-19th, 2024 https://plantstrongfoods.com/pages/2024-black-mountain-retreat Sedona Retreat - October 8th-13th, 2024 https://plantstrongfoods.com/pages/2024-sedona-retreat Leave Us a Voicemail QuestionLeave us a voicemail: https://www.speakpipe.com/plantstrong Follow PLANTSTRONG and Rip Esselstynhttps://plantstrongfoods.com/ https://www.facebook.com/GoPlantstrong https://www.instagram.com/goplantstrong/https://www.instagram.com/ripesselstyn/ Let Us Help Your PLANTSTRONG JourneyUse Code: KALE20 for $20 off Annual Subscription at https://home.mealplanner.plantstrong.com/ https://myplantstrong.com/b/trailblazer Follow the PLANTSTRONG Podcast and Give the Show a 5-star RatingApple PodcastsSpotifyTheme Music for Episodehttps://app.soundstripe.com/songs/10845
Mastering the ten essential habits to help you move freely and live fully starts from the ground up. Literally. If you’re having trouble with movement and mobility, know that it's not your fault. At age 49, Rip's guest, Robert Band, had a stent because he had 95% blockage in his carotid. Surgery "fixed" him, but at age 60, he discovered that the blockage was returning. Four years ago, through the recommendation of a Lifestyle Medicine physician, he found the work of the Esselstyn family, including PLANTSTRONG. Today, thanks to a radical change in his diet and lifestyle, he now has 0% blockage and lives a vibrant, active life in Colorado. In this live session with Rip, we'll learn a thing or two from Robert's personal "Plantstrong Playbook." Very interesting podcast. The only issue with background sound. There is too much noise, talk behind.

Getting enough sleep is easy when you're young - just go to bed early and get enough sleep. I'm 65 and having sleeping problems for many years and it's getting worse. Almost all people I know in my age group have these problems. I don't know what to do, since all advice is always in how to fall asleep, not how to stay asleep and have a deep restful sleep. I have no problem to fall asleep, I go to bed at 9pm but wake up 2 to 3 hours later, then I can't go back to sleep for hours until the early morning when I get a few more hours until my alarm goes off at 5:30am to go to work. I get an average of 5 hours not very restful sleep. Am I doomed 🙃?

This guy sucks. Jesse eats fish once a week, eats raw most of the time, doesn't have any grains and he's being promoted as healthy. We all know grains are good for you, fish isn't in any way, it's also cruel and catastrophically damaging to the earth, and eating raw is horrible for your health and detrimental to most people by promoting eating raw. it's not in any way healthy and this should not be an episode of plant strong. This makes me embarrassed to have promoted plant strong to my friends and family.

I would so LOVE to have access to Engine 2 products in Canada! Anywhere would be great as I am used to going to stores in the area that carry what I need. Loblaws would be a great starting point as they own an array of opportunities and carry lines that are in the Natural Health caregory.

I just came across this and I love it! I went WFPBNSOS about 6 months ago and I've never felt better... and I weigh what I did in high school (more than 40 years ago!). I loved the conversation with John Stewart. especially part 2 about talking to and convincing others. He is wise and funny and kind. thank you Rip.

Could not love the Plant Strong podcast more! Finally a real guide to transitioning to a whole food plant based lifestyle that takes on the challenges of real life...like not being able to find a restaurant (because you had to race out with a sick child) or not getting enough sleep. We are all dealing with these kinds of roadblocks, it is good to hear that we are not alone! The guests are awesome, Joe Inga is amazing, RIP is fabulous and I just love Ann! I can't wait to listen to the next episode!

I have Multiple Sclerosis and live practically symptom free (like 98% of the time) on a plant strong diet. I wish more people with MS knew about it, and it might be a good idea to interview a plant strong MS'er in a future episode.
