Description

How do any of us learn at university? On the one hand it seems so straightforward, particularly when you read many of the policy and guidance documents in higher education (HE). However, we are not so sure. In working with students something magical can happen that we cannot quite put our finger on. In this series of podcasts we take common subjects in HE learning and teaching and explore what is going on.

In another informal podcast, we talk about our first-week experience of teaching online and using virtual tools.
Teaching international students is commonplace. Rob and I discuss some of the issues and situations that occur in the classroom.

Here we tackle the use of standards in Higher Education learning and teaching. We are both involved in apprenticeship programmes where standards are used to evaluate overall apprentice achievement.
Should we be using a metaphor of foraging within our sessions and modules, giving students space to explore and select their own key knowledge? This moves us away from sprinkling a trail of breadcrumbs and pushing a more linear approach. In this podcast we discuss foraging and how Rob has implemented it.
A little more on creativity in terms of our practice and behaviours in the classroom, seminar and workshop.
This is one of two episodes on creativity. Here we look at our experience of encouraging students to be creative in their practice. Colleagues tell us this ‘generation’ do not like ‘ambiguity’ but how do the things we do, in order to be clear and provide guidance, encourage students to look for newness in their thinking and output?
Assessment is a significant activity for both lecturers and students in Higher Education. In this episode, Rob and David discuss their experience of assessment and explore their practice.
