Escaping the Flames of Maui

Captain Chrissy Lovitt, a local and seasoned mariner out of Lahaina Harbor, and her story of how she saved two 5- and 6-year-old children has spread all across the news. However, in this podcast, we wanted to go deeper and really understand what happened at the harbor and the rest of the town that day. This way, we can truly grasp an idea of what Lahaina is going through and how they are picking up the pieces today. Captain Chrissy herself is a significant part of the healing process. Not only is she housing several victims of the fire who lost their own homes, but she's also actively working to get another boat, so she can begin running much-needed supplies to her people. Let's hear this story in her own words. You can find Capt. Chrissy's GoFundMe page at the link below: https://bit.ly/CaptChrissy Learn more at pmymag.com Subscribe to Power & Motoryacht magazine at pmymag.com/subscribe Subscribe to our FREE newsletter This episode is sponsored by Imtra (www.imtra.com). Special Report: Lake Tahoe's Deadly Freak Storm

A charter captain recounts one of the deadliest storms ever on Lake Tahoe. Sponsored by Imtra During the afternoon of June 21, an unexpected, ferocious thunderstorm swept across Lake Tahoe. Before the storm, scores of boaters were out enjoying a Saturday on the lake. One was longtime Tahoe fishing charter captain Mike Nielsen. The owner of Tahoe Topliners sportfishing, Nielsen has grown up on the lake and from his 22-foot Duckworth, he had a front row seat to a storm that sank or capsized many boats and tragically, killed eight in what may be the worst marine disaster in Tahoe history. Shipwrecked in the South Atlantic

This episode is sponsored by Volvo Penta. Matt Lewis was an ambitious 23-year-old fisheries biologist when he set foot aboard the 144-foot Sudur Havid, an aging longline trawler casting off for South Atlantic and Antarctic waters in search of Patagonian toothfish–or “Chilean sea bass,” as it’s better known on your dinner plate. A quick–and underrated–bilge-pump replacement, along with a short but dire series of events led to the boat’s sinking. Of all the 38 crew aboard, Lewis was, as his book’s title suggests, the last man off, and one of 21 survivors. In this episode of the Power and Motoryacht podcast he sits down with Senior Editor Owen Burke to tell his tale and reflect on the tragedy. You can get Matt's book "Last Man Off: A True Story of Disaster and Survival on the Antarctic Seas" on Amazon. ▶ Learn more at pmymag.com Subscribe to Power & Motoryacht magazine at pmymag.com/subscribe Subscribe to our FREE newsletter Learn more about your ad choices.
