In our hyper-connected world, digital distractions can provide all too perfect an excuse for procrastination. Read a few emails or start that report? Browse social media or prepare a big pitch? It's tempting to reach in each case for the simple solution and waste yet more time.
This procrastination can lead to feelings of guilt, inadequacy, and depression all of which can kill motivation and creativity and perpetuate the unproductive cycle. Poor time management, feeling overwhelmed, unrealistic standards, or just plain laziness are a few possible reasons for procrastination.
Procrastination is choosing short-term benefits with long-term costs over long-term benefits with short-term costs. To overcome that, there has to be a good motivation.
