Description
Welcome to the Psalms to Help You Sleep podcast with Sarah Frazer and Jennifer Holmes. If you struggle to fall asleep at night or go through your day fighting anxiety and depression pull up a chair. Psalms is a book that gives us permission to feel but also to hear.
In the Psalms we find recognition and clarity because each of the psalmists gives an honest voice to our deepest struggles. They also give us a chance to hear another voice: that of our caring and ever-present Father. This is the voice we need to hear in the middle of the night when despair keeps us awake. The voice of God can sing us back to sleep. Join us as we read through a psalm, share a short devotional, and end in prayer.
Take a breath. Let’s begin.

Depression and anxiety use absolutes like “always, never…” What we love about the psalms is that there are particular chapters that can speak to us during these times in a profound way. We do not need a platitude of “Things will be better in the morning….” We need a voice to say, “Yes, it is hard, but we are not alone, forgotten, or unloved. This is what Psalm 31 is for us. Welcome to the Psalms to Help You Sleep podcast with Sarah Frazer and Jennifer Holmes. This week’s episode is from Psalm 16. Jen shares how we are never truly alone at night with our worries and anxieties. We learn from Psalm 16 how God cares for both our inner person and our outer person and cares so much for us that he will co-regulate with us so we can rest securely. Read Psalm 16 here. * If you struggle to fall asleep at night or go through your day fighting anxiety and depression pull up a chair. Psalms is a book that gives us permission to feel but also to hear. One of the goals for this podcast is that it is a resource for you when you need it. We hope you will listen to every episode after it airs, but also, we understand that our mental health ebbs and flows. You might go a few weeks and sleep really well. Or it might be that a certain time of year is really bad and you need a little help. No matter how often you listen, we encourage you to listen again, not to our voices, but to the Voice of God in the Book of Psalms. Another goal for this podcast is that you will use it as a way to get into God’s Word daily. Both of us are super passionate about Bible study and Bible reading as a daily practice. This podcast can help you when reading your Bible is hard. Take this podcast and listen to it as a way to stay close to God’s Word and hopefully you will go to sleep better at night.
