Description
We follow a format similar to a book club where we collectively decide on a game to play, retreat to our gaming rooms, and return and discuss our feelings around a careful crafted centerpiece. We avoid common rating systems involving numbers, thumbs up / down, or X out of 10 headcrabs. The goal is to come away with the question answered "is it worth my time to play through this game or not".

Once again unable to gather in person, we co-op our way through the opening stretch of Diablo 3 while discussing our recent experiences of the game that started it all - Diablo! Join us as we discuss our histories with the series and the action RPG genre as a whole, as well as our views on grinding for loot, brutal difficulty, and fun vs realism. So head to your grandma's place and fire up your 2x CD-ROM, it's time to get that loot! Next month's game is Borderlands 3! Time to answer the question on everyone's minds- is Xen good? Black Mesa is an HD remake of Half-Life that released in 2012, but they stopped just shy of the Alien homeworld of Xen. A few months ago, they finally released the Xen chapters, so we decided we needed to play and review it! In this special edition of the podcast, we play Sven's Coop (a multiplayer Half Life mod) while reviewing Black Mesa. So delve into the retro nostalgia of Black Mesa without the pixelated graphics of the original... except that we play the original while we discuss the HD Remake.
Season 2 of Pushing 40 Bit is here! And what better way to start the season off than with a game set in the universe we all love - Star Wars! We reminisce on past Star Wars games, share our love of Greez and gonk droids, and argue about story quality. Klipper feels empathy for enslaved wookies, Frosty brags about finding all the crates, and we all hate lightsaber resistant goats. Feel free to eat some chocolate and put on your Jedi robes during the intermission, then return to hear tales of Cynic hoarding stims and his policy on re-killing the undead. So install some safety bars in your shower and crank The Hu, it’s time to discuss Jedi: Fallen Order! Next month's game is the fan-made recreation of the original Half-Life, Black Mesa! The season 1 finale of Pushing 40 Bit is here! This month the guys played through Untitled Goose game and reunite to share tales of their favorite citizens to torment. Also on the schedule: a recap of this season’s games and episodes, games everyone is currently playing, and a few upcoming games they’re looking forward to. Lastly, Frosty finally finds a game to talk about that Cynic doesn’t already own, and Klipper defines what “giving a pump” means. Head wounds are never mentioned. We'll be taking December off but will be back in January to start Season 2! Having spent the month playing Mass Effect 2, we come together to discuss Commander Shepard’s continuing journey in this sci-fi trilogy. We’ll share our love of the particle beam weapon, reveal what we called the mini-game symbols in our head, and disagree a bit about “assuming control” of Joker. As the episode continues, Klipper judges anyone who stands on furniture, Frosty quacks, and Cynic does a Dr. Claw impression. So either pay off random strangers or ignore your friends requests for help, it’s time to make some tough choices in Mass Effect 2.
Grab your pistol and hammer and load up on black ale, it’s time to discuss 2011’s Bastion. Join us as we struggle to remember the creepy narrator’s name, but have no trouble agreeing that lunkheads are the worst. Frosty demands story elements never be presented during loading screens, Klipper never gives up his starting hammer, and Cynic never uses his shield. To finish out the episode, two of us look forward to next month’s game, Mass Effect 2.
Today’s episode is all about Watch_Dogs! We’ll talk a bit about E3 reveals VS final products, compare and contrast the game with GTA, Deus Ex, and Saints Row, and we praise Jordi, this game’s star character. Plus, Cynic raves about the blues and jazz options on the radio, Frosty NAILS a joke about (unlicensed) Chicago’s nickname, and Klipper throws his notebook yet again. Then things finish crazy - We all have differing final opinions!
It's time to discuss Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall 2! We'll jump right into the important topics like imploring future engineers to design better escape pods and whether or not the Impossible Mission Force is a part of this game. Plus Cynic teaches us some Spanish, Klipper has flashbacks of going to Radio Shack, and Frosty theorizes about a secret crush. Finally, we do some speculating about Respawn's upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Next month we'll be playing Watch_Dogs! Come along as the guys of Pushing 40 Bit gather around the centerpiece to discuss Rayman Origins. They'll explain the linguistics of slang, lament the thought of Darksiders being the only game to survive the apocalypse, and marvel at Globox's virility. Plus Frosty wonders if Rayman is part of the John Wick universe, Klipper throws his notepad in anger over the nature of gravity, and Cynic sings a Strongbad classic. And you definitely don't want to miss the special appearance by Sir David Britainborough! Titanfall 2 will be next month's game! Having mentioned it in every episode thus far, Frosty finally gets his wish to immerse Cynic and Klipper in the world of Mass Effect. Cynic reveals he played as a jerk who said no to every galactic citizen who asked for help, while Klipper names who he thinks is the Randy Quaid of the universe. All while Frosty takes everything far too seriously, especially the differences between VI and AI. So fire up your omni-tools and coat yourself in element zero, it's time to discuss the original Mass Effect. Link for AMD fix: https://steamcommunity.com/app/17460/... Having recently all finished their playthroughs, the Pushing 40 Bit crew assembles to discuss the award-winning BioShock Infinite. Will Cynic be able to make sense of the timeline? Will Klipper still consider it his favorite single player game of all time? Will Frosty have enjoyed his first time playing this game? Lettuce? Tune in for these answers and much more!
Pushing 40 Bit takes on the sequel to Freespace 1. Will Cynic's wrists hold up to the challenge? We compare and contrast the original to the sequel and see if its worth continuing the journey or tapping out after the original.
Freespace: The Great War has been harled (by us) to be THE space combat simulator of the late 90's. Gather around the centerpiece to discuss the merits of an action-packed arcade space simulator that captured @40bitfrosty attention with its superb audio engineering, gave @40bitklipper a chance to dust off his beloved Sidewinder joystick, and is the likely cause of @cynicplacebo early onset carpal tunnel syndrome
Join us for a discussion about Darksiders! In this episode, Klipper laments the lack of combos, Frosty hates everything, and Cynic does a pretty spot on impression of Mark Hamill.
Join us for a discussion about Crysis, the first game we've played for Pushing 40 Bit. From Gene Hackman references, to vests from Baby Gap, to repeatedly saying THRUSTERS... we've got something for everybody ;)
Join @40bitklipper @40bitfrosty and @cynicplacebo as they explain a little bit about their backgrounds in gaming, why they were / are drawn to the hobby, and how falling through a roof can earn you an original NES.
