TJ checks in with her friend, Anastasia, about her experience growing up in New Mexico. Interestingly enough, being multi-racial is such a shared experience but also seems to be one of loneliness... an experience about figuring out one's place in a cross-section of culture and race. While race is a man-made construct, it does not make the impacts of racism or racial divides any less difficult to navigate. Anastasia deals with being both fetishized and simultaneously lumped into a racial group for the ease of others' understanding. Is this experience truly necessary for our family who wants to identify as multi-racial? Have Americans limited ourselves to understanding how a person truly and fully identifies? Either way, Anastasia is on the path to figuring things out and allowing space for her daughter's experience to be whatever she desires it to be.  www.yoigotaquestion.com
Follow along with Kholi and Dice as we continue part 2 of their conversation; we learn more about Kholi’s upbringing and a very specific experience with a teacher that impacts the way he views himself. Another global citizen, Kholi speaks on his experiences as a black man having lived in 6 different countries. Follow Kholi along to several points in his life, including land distribution in Zimbabwe, making connections in Toronto and where he currently calls home. www.yoigotaquestion.com Guest: Kholisile Dhliwayo Website: https://blackdiasporas.com/  Podcast: "Ngano"   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/afrourban.art/
In this two-part interview, Dice interviews his friend, Kholi who shares a bit about his background; we learn about his family, discuss a little about the impact of colonization of the Zimbabwean culture, and even a surprise family member. Kholi shares that because of his mother's upbringing in which she was restricted to only speaking Shona at home, she had to relearn her language at University; Dice is returning to his own roots and a different appreciation for his Zimbabwean culture is reborn. Because understanding one's history always informs your path. Again, a common theme seems to be parallels across the diaspora as we have different experiences but it seems that we're all just trying to figure out exactly, "So... where is home?" www.yoigotaquestion.com Guest: Kholisile Dhliwayo  Website: https://blackdiasporas.com/     Podcast: "Ngano"   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/afrourban.art/
Joe is back from season one. Our fearless leader, Etik, dives into a little bit of Joe's background; they talk about everything from kindergarten crushes to women's body hair. Sexual identity is a piece of the conversation and they discuss how sexual orientation impacted their young adulthoods, perceptions of gender roles and how we all develop these thoughts and perceptions of what should be. Keep in mind, this show is for grown folks! So the talk gets real. But it's all for the sake of education and providing insight into other communities which we might otherwise remain ignorant of or ignore. It's important to hear others' experiences and hear something different from your own; you just may understand someone a little bit better. Etik and Joe agree on this: the self is a shifting thing. Self should be learning, ever-evolving, ever-growing. And just because your self doesn't align with someone else's self, this doesn't negate another's experience.

Join TJ and Jamie as they talk about two sides of the same coin. On this episode, we are introducing our last podcast member for this season and her furry sidekick, Biscuit (spoiler alert, he's a dog). Jamie picked the pen as her superhero's weapon of choice. We all know the old adage, "The pen is mightier than the sword", which simply means that intelligence and wit can often deliver a more impactful blow than violence. Occasionally, Jamie chooses both... violence but keep it cute, complete with gift wrap and bow. TJ also dives into the experience of being a Black American with Jamie and they stumble across some unfortunate (but telling) shared experiences and discuss what has been different for them both. How have their regions, families, cultural/ethnic backgrounds shaped their perspectives? How has this informed the way they date? Does cultural awareness even really matter in dating? Find out what they have to say. Feel free to give us your feedback regarding this episode and of course, let us know if this episode sparks any "quick questions" for you. We look forward to hearing from you! www.yoigotaquestion.com
Just like that, we're back! On the kick-off of season 2, we're introducing our new co-hosts and curiosities to you. We have some new additions to our Quick Question family! Etik, our polyamorous polymath (don't worry, we'll explain) has returned but we're joined by TJ (our empathic bibliophile) and Dice (Captain Alkebu-lan). Dice sets the tone; born in Zimbabwe, he has also lived in England and Toronto. He shares with us his curiosity for how other global citizens like himself view the world. TJ experiences travel through reading. As she talks about reading, you can hear the excitement in her voice! The common thread between us all is a desire to learn more about other cultures and walks of life. Etik also tasked each of us with creating our own super heroes, emphasizing what we find to be the best of ourselves. Enter the polyamorous polymath, empathic bibliophile and Captain Alkebu-lan. I see a very off-beat Marvel-esque movie in our future… just saying. We are many things; siblings, employees, friends, parents (if only to a struggling Calathea plant- damn, I really need to water my plants) but in creating these superheroes, we were each forced to consider the qualities about ourselves of which we are the proudest, add clarity to them and put those thoughts in words. The process was empowering in itself! So I’ll start with our first question of the season: what do you look like as a superhero? Which are the qualities about yourself that make you bad-ass? Are you persistent af, despite multiple setbacks? Are you a sensory being, able to gift calmness to others by your presence? Maybe you have the gift of making others laugh? Now consider this… are you living your life in a way that consistently brings those qualities to the forefront? Not for others but for you. How can we start showing up as the best of ourselves? Just some Quick Question pondering! There will be plenty of that this season. Please be sure to join us for our next episode and send us your questions! WWW.YOIGOTAQUESTION.COM
