Grunge Icons, The People's Rock Band, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. These are just few of the descriptions that describe Pearl Jam for over 30 years! Whether it was sticking it to Ticketmaster or opening eyes and ears of listeners to what's going on in their own backyard and beyond, Eddie Vedder and company have lead the charge with no signs of stopping. Even their live shows including their most recent tour (which ended in the US a few weeks ago) have been hailed as religious experiences (and they have the Bootleg Live shows on CD to prove it!) There are many people who will argue when this episode ends this week. But there will be reasons for my placements of their 11 albums. Tune in, call up "Jeremy", finish making that "Wishlist", be nicer to that "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" and feel happy to be "Alive"! This week, I review and rank the amazing discography of Pearl Jam! This version of this week's episode is available on most streaming services and includes no song clips. This has been re-uploaded due to technical glitches in the system during recording of my #1 pick (how appropriate! HAHAHA) and has now been rectified. My apologies for any inconveniences. Heading up to Duluth, Minnesota this week with the best band to come out of the area. Since 1993, Low (led by Al Sparhawk) have been one of the most legendary indie rock acts that have had one of the most devoted cult followings ever. Not just in their hometown, but around the world as well. This week, we take a deep dive into the genre known as 'Slowcore' and discuss the eclectic discography that has garnered rave reviews over the years including back-to-back Year End Lists on Pitchfork for their albums "Double Negative" (2018) and "Hey What" (2021). While it may be cold up dere (eh?) where you are, the discussions I'm sure will heat up once this week's podcast is over. A band that most people tended to let slip under the radar for over 20 years. Yet, they are one of the best bands from the emo genre that tended to focus on the positive than the usual whiny lyrics from that era. Even more so that they reunited in 2019 after what was supposed to be a permanent breakup 5 years prior. The reactions to the reunion tour and the release this year of the EP Silvermine (Their first album of new material since 2014) have shown that Anberlin are FAR from done. Led by Stephen Christian, the Florida based rock band have wowed audiences with their lyrical content, energetic live shows, and phenomenal musicianship that makes one wonder WHY OH WHY are they still not known by the masses!!! This week, I will tackle their discography and rank their albums from worst to best. In addition, I will also give my two cents on the new EP. Tune in to find out how your favorite Anberlin album ranked! Starting with this episode, you will get a BRAND NEW episode of Randumb Albumb Rankings for the remainder of the year (including RandumBonus episodes and Best/Worst of episodes). This week, I wanted to tackle the discography of one of the most successful female-fronted musical groups of all time: Heart! Fronted by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, this band has had many ups and downs (including a nasty implosion between the siblings themselves in 2016). But through it all, Heart has sold 35 million albums worldwide, amassed 20 Top 40 hits (Two of which went to #1), and pioneers in breaking genre barriers during their near six decades of activity! Tune in this week to find out where I rank the discography of the Seattle, Washington band Heart! Also on this week's podcast, I have some news I have to share with you and this news will determine the future of Randumb Albumb Rankings going forward. I've done some thinking these last few weeks I've been out and at this time, this is something that NEEDS to be brought to your attention. Tune in and find out. THIS IS A REVISED VERSION OF THE EPISODE FROM MEMORIAL DAY DUE TO ISSUES BEYOND MY CONTROL! I AM AWARE IT'S PAST MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND! I hope you enjoyed this episode before and still enjoy it now. Hope your Memorial Day was happy and safe. Now back to the grind of daily life and another new Randumb Podcast! The metrosexuality of Duran Duran, the haunting synth of Depeche Mode, and the 'from-the-heart' lyrical prowess inspired by Springsteen, The Killers are one of the greatest American bands of the 21st century and one of my all-time favorite bands these last few years. The Vegas band, led by Brandon Flowers, continues to evolve and experiment with new sounds wowing critics and fans to this very day. There are a lot of people who still have childhood memories of listening to their debut album. But with 7 albums under their belts, The Killers proved to be more than just the band who sang "Mr. Brightside". Tune in this week as I rank the discography of The Killers. You may be surprised what comes out on top here. Topics discussed: Corporate Music Industry games, 80s flashbacks, and the incurable disease known as Hedupasitis! Because of the recent announcement of a new album set to drop later this year, the intended summer finale for the Re-ranking of the Red Hot Chili Peppers albums will now be moved to next season. This RandumBonus episode will be the last episode for at least a month as this podcast is going on hiatus after this week. Randumb Albumb Rankings will return to wrap up season 3 starting October 3rd. Thank you for your support, have a nice trip, see you in the fall! :P We all have those particular songs, artists, and bands that we really enjoy hearing when they come on the radio/TV/media source of choice. However, you tend to hide that love in front of your friends when they start being decimated verbally in front of you. Saying "Hey I like them!" would warrant odd or dirty looks towards your direction. They're called "Guilty Pleasures" This week, your snobby friends can go f*ck themselves! :P I have had to hide many songs and bands and artists over the years. And thanks to the internet and the world of podcasting, I'm letting it all loose... but I'm narrowing it down to 10 songs. You may be surprised as to what can of music I've really been digging away from classmates, close friends, and even my wife/show producer all these years! Sit back, relax, and feel unashamed as I count down my Top 10 All Time Guilty Pleasure songs! THIS IS A PODCAST, SHE'S IN THE SPOTLIGHT! Could I make it any more obvious? :P 2022 certainly had its moments in the case of music and everything in general. But NOBODY expected this year to be the year Avril Lavigne made a successful comeback, have a top selling album and a sell-out headlining tour (ALL OF WHICH actually happened to her EXACTLY 20 years ago!!!) So with that said, I figured NOW was the time to tackle the discography of the Canadian Pop-Punk Princess herself. This was actually supposed to be a joint episode this week. However, my wife/producer fell ill last week and therefore unable to be part of this episode. BUT thankfully, she has approved my rankings for this artist. So ladies and gentleman, SK8ER BOIS and GIRLFRIENDS, "Complicated" Children of all ages: ARE YOU READY TO ROCK? If so, get ready as I rank the albums of Avril Lavigne! This week, I decided once again to #GoProgorGoHome . So why not go with a band who's career has spanned over 5 decades, 13 albums, and one of the pioneers (if not THE pioneer) of Progressive Rock? This is probably one of my deepest dives in not only this genre, but also in my years of being a music nerd and the short history of this podcast. Believe it or not, this band is more than just one iconic album from the 60s or their iconic founding member, Robert Fripp. AND, you can even thank them for bands such as Tool, Opeth, Genesis, Yes, YOB, and even Mudvayne and Nirvana. This week, tune in and let your mind explore the deepest depths of Prog as I tackle the discography of the illustrious King Crimson! Shout-out and thank you this week: Follow @progressiveheadreviews on Instagram for reviews and rankings of all things Prog and then some. Very awesome page! You can also check out his lists online at albumoftheyear.org/user/progressivehead I have trusted his opinions on a lot of music these last few months! You will not be disappointed! Singer, songwriter, actor, multi-instrumentalist. Goes without saying that Lenny Kravitz (like Stevie Wonder and Prince before him) can do it all! With a career spanning 40 years, 11 albums, and multiple awards, it was a given that the son of TV's Helen Willis would be thrown in the spotlight soon. This week, we shall "Dig In" to Lenny Kravitz's discography. Tune in as I rank his albums from worst to best. Just know "It Ain't Over til It's Over"... or at least until we reach the #1 spot! Thank you for tuning in last week for my "Post Beatles" episode. With that episode and all that's happening in the world and the United States, I figured it was appropriate to undertake the controversial task of ranking the albums of John Lennon. For those of you wondering... YES! I am including the early albums he did with Yoko Ono. But don't expect me to be nice about those. LOL. Jokes aside, I promise a fair and balanced review of all of his work and at the same throwing in my personal opinions about each album. Hopefully you'll tune in this week to see where your favorite ranks. Topics discussed: Dick Cavett, Morris Levy, The Disney Channel during the late 80s/early 90s WARNING: Song clips and this week's podcast may contain trigger words and potentially sensitive topics. At the beginning of the series, I decided to do an episode dedicated to the discography of that little band from Liverpool known as The Beatles. It wouldn't be long before I would start tackling their solo discographies (one will be done next week). So while you wait tooth and nail for next week's ranking of John Lennon's discography, I figured it was time to dive into what I think are the best solo Beatles tunes (SPOILER: Ringo made the cut!). Remember, this is my opinion and I'm entitled. But if you pay close attention this week, you might learn something! :) NOTE: This is not a End-all, be-all list. This top 10 is merely one person's opinion. I'm entitled to mine just as much as you are to yours. With that said, I hope you enjoy this episode. THANK YOU! One of the most brilliant bands in the genre of Alternative music, Dinosaur Jr. have soldiered on for almost 4 decades with their style of music ranging from lo-fi to hard rock to just plain noise (because they felt like it. :P)) It's also impressive that the 3 members that founded this band (J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph) are still a cohesive unit that have appealed to fans of classic rock, grunge, and even Beavis and Butthead. But where do their albums rank? Tune in this week to find out where I place the 12 albums of Dinosaur Jr's career from worst to best. This week, I decided to do a little something different and tackle the discography of one of the greatest bands of the 1960s. Tommy James & The Shondells dominated the latter half of the decade with 14 Top 40 hits (2 of which went to #1), pioneered a genre known as Bubblegum Pop, and had a very interesting history involving run-ins with the mob... via their record label!!! It's a shame that this band has never been considered for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since their inception because their music has stood the test of time and have been covered by many artists for over 5 decades including Billy Idol, Tiffany, Dolly Parton, and even Green Day. Today, Tommy James, continues to tour in rock revival shows and hosts his own show every Sunday on Sirius XM. And their music lives on in the hearts of many. In what's expected to be a fun time for all, please tune in as I rank the discography of Tommy James & The Shondells! 25 Years ago on April 8th, the self-titled debut album from Third Eye Blind was released. The album was both a critical and commercial hit that still holds up after all these years! Over time, the only original members of the group are controversial lead singer/founding member Stephan Jenkins and drummer Brad Hargreaves. Last time I tackled their discography, a new album ("Our Bande Apart") came out a mere two weeks after that episode dropped. Since then, I vowed to rectify this situation and give all their albums another listen. Normally, I wouldn't bother going back and re-ranking. But I realized as I was listening to their discography... OPINIONS CAN CHANGE since last fall's episode. So with that said, here is the very first Re-Rank episode. This one is dedicated to Third Eye Blind. Topics discussed: High School angst, Billy Corgan, LGBTQ culture. One of the most successful platonic relationships (if not THE most successful) in music, Beach House has a habit of putting out albums that tend to induce relaxation by blocking out the negativity in the world with their dream-pop sound. The duo has remained popular among critics and fans of alternative music for the last decade and a half. With the release this year of their eighth album "Once Twice Melody" (An epic 80 minute album who has released albums that always FELT like epics), they achieved their first #1 album on the Billboard US Album charts. And most likely going to end up placing very high on my year-end list. The best description for their music: If you love Brian Wilson mixed with My Bloody Valentine and the feminine charms of girlinred and Mazzy Star, this is the band for you. Tune in, lay back, and listen as I rank the discography of Beach House. What hasn't been said about this band for the last 6 decades? Hands down, one of the biggest names in both Psychedelic and Progressive Rock is Pink Floyd. With several albums hailed by critics as masterpieces, debates over which era was the best (Syd Barrett? Roger Waters? David Gilmour?), and their place in cinema, Pink Floyd could take MULTIPLE episodes to talk about. But I'm going to try my best to tackle their discography in one episode! All in all it's just another band yet to rank! :) Topics discussed: Pokemon, Happy places, Wizard of Oz, Mental Health, Follow this podcast on Instagram @randumb.albumb for updates on future episodes, music news, and everything in between. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/randumb-albumb/message
2 EPISODES IN ONE WEEK??? That's the beauty of having musical acts with small discographies some days. Controversy aside (From Kurt Cobain to just plain not keeping her mouth shut the last 2 decades), Courtney Love should be recognized as one of the most iconic female artists of all time as well as the leader of THE BEST female-fronted band in the history of Grunge music. It's been a very dizzying history for Hole with lawsuits, tragedies, and total chaos! But they have put out a small discography that deserves to be looked at again because whether Kurt wrote the lyrics or not (still up in the air), there's some good stuff on there. And you can even thank them for bands like Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, and Spiritbox for being as successful as they have been! As I said at the beginning of the year, new rules will apply. You will find that the nu-metal band from Minneapolis, MN has a very small discography. FOUR albums total in their short career, to be exact! While the band has been inactive since 2017, they continue to make an impact as far as being one of the most underrated and hardest in the genres of nu metal and industrial. So which AHC album is their best? Tune in and find out. NOTE: Since this will be a short episode, expect a little surprise later in the week. It took 3 seasons, but this week's podcast is the first where I tackle a former contestant on American Idol. Oh sure I could've done one for Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood, but those will happen at some point (just not right now!). This week, I am joined by my lovely wife/producer J.C. as we take a look at and rank the discography of the North Carolina based rock band Daughtry led by the one and only Chris Daughtry (who placed 4th on American Idol back in 2006). Which one makes our #1 spot? Tune in this week to find out. Topics discussed: Fuel (the band), D-Bag concertgoers at rock shows, our wedding (you'll find out why. ;) <3 ). After tackling some serious artists, I decided to have some fun this week. Since 1997, Flogging Molly (like Dropkick Murphys and The Pogues before them) have introduced a new generation of music fans to the unique genre known as Celtic Punk. 25 years later, the band led by David King continue to put out awesome albums, hosted a successful annual cruise since 2015 and are one of the best live acts I've ever seen! With only 6 albums under their belt (and a new single that dropped earlier this year), one must ask... what is their best album? Grab a pint and rock out with your shamrock out for I, B.C., will be ranking Flogging Molly's discography from worst to best.
