This week, Cobie and dawn chat about Nvidia, AI and Trump's Middle East excursion. In addition to the interest rate cut, the Fed signalled some dialling back of quantitative tightening to a more neutral position. There is much more detail in our newsletter, get on the database at www.rexsolom.co.za
AI is democratising access to information, especially for small and medium-sized companies. Cobie gives us some insight into how we do that at Rexsolom Invest. We have a look at Beyond Meat and the lessons to be learned in single-product, highly niche companies. The Rexsolom Newsletter has an in-depth story on bonds, and Cobie and Dawn touch on this topic this week.
Economies all over the world are having to face new realities, mounting debt and changing dynamics. This week Cobie and Dawn also look at the Health sector in RSA and the possibility of the loss of the Med Aid Tax credit, and funding of the NHI.
Government debt, especially in the US and France is front and centre of the issues at hand, what can be done to fix it? The USA doesn't care about Taiwan, they just want the chips from the TSMC - once they have it, then what? Why has it taken so long for the massive wastage at RSA hospitals to come under the spotlight?
Dawn and Cobie have an in-depth discussion this week around the Gold bonanza that has been lifting the JSE. The Rand is at its strongest it has been for a while - can these greenshoots last? The US shutdown is an ideal opportunity for the US to bring down its debt burden, extra points if the pain can be blamed on the Democrats. Taiwan is stuck between a rock and a hard place - does it give up its major bargaining tool - high-end semiconductors - or continue with its brinksmanship with the US?
Dawn and Cobie drill down into some of the valuations, especially in the US, and ask - is this a good time to buy or are we topping out... We also look at Argentina, and closer to home, the local JHB Mayor elections, and some of the issues facing the new incumbent.
This week, Jonathan Brummer and Dawn Ridler chat about the interest rate cuts and the independence of the Fed. We also have a deeper dive into the Chinese economy, which is cooling, and the prospect of increased dumping of manufactured goods.  This podcast is backed by our weekly free newsletter. This week, Dawn and Jonathan discuss the buoyant markets, including the surprise bump from Oracle. Is 3% the new normal for inflation in the West, and with the 25 bps drop in interest rates backed in, might we see 50bps?
How can the major nations solve their debt problems? They can't exactly go to the IMF for a bailout. The South African government, despite the GNU, continues to push potentially ruinous policies - could an opposition landslide in the municipals push out the ANC  before the next elections? Are you an AI solver? If so, your job might be safe(r).
This week, we have a discussion around individuals and academic institutions, either fighting or embracing AI. The US has threatened to cut RSA off from SWIFT - what does this mean? Many more topics in our weekly newsletter available at https://rexsolom.co.za/posts/ and get onto our free database.
This week, we have a look at Jackson Hole and the Fed independence, India and China are cozying up to each other - what does this mean for global trade? The world is wading into applying AI to everything they can find, and trying to get returns for those huge investments. Jonathan Brummer is standing in for Cobie in this episode.
Dawn Ridler and Cobie Le Grange bring you a round up and input on various happenings in the market in the last week. The US economy is pivoting from being monetary dominated to fiscal dominance, thanks to DJT, even if it means cooking the stats to do it. Markets are partying like it's 1999. Is it really sustainable?
This week, we focus on debt and bonds, and the implications of those chickens coming home to roost. Will Trump gain control of the Fed, and what are the consequences if he does? We also have a longer look at some of the tariffs and negotiating styles of different companies. Our newsletter (on which the podcast is based) is published on our website https://rexsolom.co.za/posts/ on Mondays
This week, we look at the tariff impact (yet again) and do a bit of a case study on Bananas and Aluminium markets in the US and the possible impact of tariffs. We also look at which jobs AI might impact, and which not. This is based on our popular weekly newsletter, you can get on the database at www.rexsolom.co.za
Powell is trading on thin ice with Trump, and the latest gotcha moment imploded on live TV. Still, there seems to be the question whether central bank independence should still be 'a thing'. Tariffs don't seem to be impacting inflation, yet, but is that still coming down the pipe? Are importers going to stop eating those tariffs and start passing them onto the consumer? This podcast is based on our weekly (free) newsletter, also available on www.rexsolom.co.za.
This week, we talk about the breadth of the S&P. Coffee prices are on the rise because of drought conditions, and now Trump wants to impose a 30% tariff. WE look at recent developments in the field of AI, and ways ordinary people can start leveraging this new technology.
This week we look at the light-speed changes that are happening in AI, and how large companies like Meta and Apple are starting to find their niches. It wouldn't be another week in 2025 without more on Trump's tariffs. Is it still TACO Don, or are these going to stick?
This week, Cobie and Dawn chat about the Trump Big Beautiful Bill, and the continued tariff fallout. They also discuss the weakening dollar and its effect on commodity prices and equities. Dawn also interviews the newest member of the team at Rexsolom, Jonathan Brummer, who will have a dual role in asset management and advisory.
This week, we revisit the state of the RSA GNU - is it crumbling, and do we need a 'regime change'? In the newsletter (www.rexsolom.co.za/posts) this week Cobie has taken an indepth look at diversification and what it really means, and we also go into that in this podcast.
In this podcast we discuss the topic of our recent post ( you can find it on our website www.rexsolom.co.za/posts entitled Difficult Financial Conversations. There are a few times in your life that these conversations, tackled head-on, can make a huge difference to your long-term wealth. Dawn Ridler and Liam Wright explore some of these in depth.
