Stephen Clegg is a multi medal winning Paralympic swimmer and spoke to RNIB Connect Radio’s Allan Russell about the benefits that come from participating in sport and physical activity. The Partially Sighted Football League is a breeding ground for talent on the international stage, but it’s also a place for new players to pick up the game and have some fun. A visually-impaired football fan and his guide dog have become the first pair to visit all 42 Scottish league grounds. Fantastic news now for Paralympics GB Gold medal winning Tandem cyclist Sophie Unwin as Sophie has just been shortlisted for The Sunday Times Citi Disability Sportswoman of the Year 2024 award.  Sophie and her Pilot Jenny Holl had a very successful Paris 2024 Paralympic Games winning Gold in the road race, Gold in the 3000m Individual pursuit, Silver in the Road Time Trial and a Bronze in the 1000m time trial. RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey recently caught up with Sophie to find out more about how Sophie felt being shortlisted for this amazing award which celebrates the achievements of a number of Paralympic athletes who like Sophie won many medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.  Before chatting about being shortlisted for The Sunday Times Citi Disability Sportswoman of the Year 2024 award Toby asked Sophie to take us back to the very successful games in Paris for Paralympics GB, all the visually impaired athletes and of course Sophie and Jenny’s great wins and achievements in Paris too.  Sophie also talked about her Paralympic cycling career which really only started in 2021 and how much she is looking forward to the award ceremony in January 2025 and what a great opportunity the awards will be to celebrate all the women in sport from grass roots level right up to Olympic and Paralympic medalists like herself and Jenny.  For more about The Sunday Times Citi Sportswoman of the Year 2024 awards and the other categories do visit the awards website - https://www.sportswomenoftheyear.co.uk  (Image shows Sophie and Jenny crossing the finish line with their right hands in the air smiling) Credit ParalympicsGB

The English FA have launched a new strategy to guide their disability football sides over the next four years.
