In this episode of RSQY, host Jonathan Chicquette and guest Jen Jacobson talk about motivational interviewing and how it can help improve communication. Motivational interviewing is a set of tools developed by two doctors in New Mexico that focuses on open-ended questions, affirmation, reflection, and summary. The goal is to trust and believe that the person being spoken to has everything they need and is the expert in themselves. In addition, we address ambivalence, techniques for clarifying goals, and helping people move forward instead of staying stuck in conflict or tension. What are some scenarios where you have felt stuck or conflicted and could apply these tools for better communication? Send us your thoughts and questions to rsqy@575agency.com, Twitter, or Instagram. RSQY (pronounced: risky) is about rebranding the status quo and why. In this episode, we start a risky conversation on how Thanksgiving has been rebranded over the years. Delve into the darker side of the holiday's origins, the implications it has had on Native people and the land that we live on. Can we rebrand the status quo to recognize our history while still being thankful for those in our personal lives (friends and family) and in our business (employees, coworkers, customers, etc.)? In our first episode, we delve into the core of what it means to rebrand the status quo and why we do it. To start things off, we have to ask, "What is branding?" Most people have a vague understanding of branding. Yet, they don't quite grasp the modern implications, complexities, or purpose. In short, your brand is who you are. Branding is the process of creating and managing your identity, which in turn creates and manages perceptions. This is critical for businesses today. Rebranding evaluates an existing brand or core concept, challenges it, finds the strengths and weaknesses, and creates something better, more meaningful to the current needs.  As a branding agency, we love helping organizations recognize their core values, create meaningful goals, and align their brand. But we've decided to take the idea of rebranding 10 steps further. Using the rebranding process to evaluate, challenge, and change the status quo. Anyone can rebrand the status quo for themselves, their business, community, and the world. Interested in learning more? Perfection can blind us as we continue to seek outcomes that are entirely subjective, causing us to overlook the imperfect beauty of the present moment. Ignoring the nuance of life and our pursuit of flawlessness outcomes, the beauty in the NOW can be missed, and the small, imperfectly unforgettable moments are lost. Don't miss out on joy, love, and excitement because they don't fit some ambiguous notion of perfection. Instead, take in these moments and build on the journey of life you are already participating in. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rsqy/support
In our second episode, we delve into the core of goal setting and letting go of perfection. To start things off, we have to ask, "What is a goal?" Often, people get confused between goals, strategies, and tasks. We break down what they mean and how they relate to each other. SMART goals are a common corporate management practice that can be applied to all levels of business, community, and personal decision-making. Planning smarter rather than harder. But SMART goals aren't necessarily about being more intellectual. SMART is an acronym. Goals should be: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Based How does this relate to rebranding the status quo? If you want to change the world or even just an aspect of your life, follow the SMART goal method. That way, you are planning smarter rather than harder. When you over plan and overthink (which we are intimately familiar with), you get caught up and usually fail to complete your goal. Allow yourself some grace and learn to let go of perfection. Let go of goals that are no longer relevant to you or your brand. Interested in learning more? Listen to our podcast episode and tune in next time for more RSQY conversations.
