Quintessential ZA — We sat down and had a chat with Henry Marsh, a qualified Industrial Engineer, but works as a full-time professional photographer. He makes sure to capture the raw, unadulterated emotion of the moment. He describes his style as photo-journalistic, or documentary, as he doesn't tell his clients how to act or when to smile, but instead documents their lives. Henry spoke to us about how to give back to the community as a photographer, making your passion your career and how instagram actually isn't important to him.
Quintessential ZA — Featured on CNN, Lead SA, The Guardian, Mail & Guardian as well as the pages of famous bloggers, Jo Buitendach is no stranger to the streets of South Africa. A registered tour guide and archaeologist started her business Past Experiences which offers a wide variety of city tours in Johannesburg, Soweto, and Pretoria. She started out with inner-city walking tours in very dangerous areas, but in the past few years has built a company that not only serve locals and tourists but also builds customized tours for corporates and schools. Her goal is to encourage locals to fall in love with their own cities and make them believe in its future just as much as she does. Johannesburg’s inner city graffiti has led Jo on one of her most interesting journeys so far. She has recently completed her Master’s degree in the heritage value of graffiti. Graffiti and public art are vital parts of the city, particularly for the children who live and move around in it every day as it is their school on walls.
