This week doesn’t have a super tight theme. The episode title is “little bit o’ devil” because there is a slight theme of The Devil™. Overall, it’s just a great mix of aggrotech and industrial mixed with dark synth and old school goth. I’m very proud of how some of the mixes in this batch in particular came out and I threw on some of my favorite tracks by Icon of Coil, Trevor Something, Suicide Commando, and Switchblade Symphony just to name a few. Enjoy!
It’s great to be back! My hiatus is over and we’re moving back to biweekly shows. I’m putting the show videos on permanent hiatus for now (more details in the show), but the regular podcast will still be coming out. Look for new episodes every two weeks on Sunday. This episode is all focused around the musical sub genre of Dark Synth. The term “dark synth” is probably new to a lot of you, but the sounds most likely won’t be… think of classic 80s retro synth wave mixed with industrial and you’ll start to get the picture. Lots of my own musical influences in this show so it is not one to be missed! Featuring Perturbator, GosT, Judge Bitch, and many more!
We’re back! This episode features A7ie, Collide, Centhron, Supreme Court, 00tz 00tz, and many more. DJ Lyra discusses her absence as well as the future direction of Dark Whispers. A big thank you for hanging in there. No video for this episode as DJ Lyra is currently re-thinking and re-structuring the video format.
We have another randomizer episode for you this week. DJ Lyra discovered a couple of underground artists she wanted to spotlight and thought another randomizer was in order. The two underground artists featured are Autopsie d’Une Ombre – a coldwave artist based out of France – and PROGRAMYST – an instrumental EBM artist. Links to their work can be found below. This episode also features some great tunes by the likes of [X]-Rx, God Module, Phosgore, Krsytal System, Alien Vampires, and Psyclon 9. https://youtu.be/v-96UAiadW0 Autopsie d’Une Ombre: https://autopsieduneombre.bandcamp.com/releases PROGRAMYST: https://soundcloud.com/programyst
Our 20th episode! We’ve officially broken the “most new podcasts die before getting to 20 episodes” limit! DJ Lyra celebrates by doing a special video. The theme for this episode is “Whispers”, thus completing the exploration of what this show is: Dark and Whispers. All the music on this episode features whispering type vocals. This episode features C-Lekktor, Trakktor, Suicide Commando, Velvet Acid Christ, ESC, Amduscia, Hocico and many others! Don’t miss the video and don’t miss the podcast! WARNING: Video is NSFW. https://youtu.be/dZDt15BH9A0
On this episode, DJ Lyra is doing another theme: Dark. She focuses on four artists and pulls some of their darkest material. Lyra explains on the podcast that she has always enjoyed songs in a minor tonality, and that is where we’re going with this show; she finds beauty in the sadness of the songs. Don’t worry, however, as she makes use of her remix deck to keep the beat going. The background music for this episode was written, recorded, and produced by Lyra and is titled “Sophismata”. She would love to hear feedback on the episode and the background music. Note regarding this episode’s video: DJ Lyra is having technical issues with her cameras. Running three cameras simultaneously and loading up her remix deck in her DJ software is causing pops and clicks in the music because so much memory is being used. The same thing happens even without the remix deck. So, rather than sacrifice the quality of the music, the video for this episode is just the DJ console and DJ Lyra speaking during the break. She apologizes for this and is still looking for a solution. https://youtu.be/aKJsfPtbR_k
On this episode of Dark Whispers, we do another theme show: DJ Lyra focuses on her favorite word. All the songs are focused around that word in some way. This show features :Wumpscut:, Centhron, Aesthetic Perfection, Pigface, Velvet Acid Christ, Razed in Black, Combichrist and many others! It was a fun show to put together and to DJ! The “rustling” sounds that can occasionally be heard while DJ Lyra is talking are from her PVC outfit. For the video, DJ Lyra was experimenting with floodlights, and forgot to put in her usual transitions so the video is nothing but hard cuts. Sorry about that! This week, DJ Lyra says farewell to the longest running goth, EBM, and industrial program on RFS. JNothing picked all the tracks for this week’s show (except one) and DJ Lyra agreed to DJ them as a final send off. This week’s show includes Noisuf-X, Centhron Suicide Commando, Combichrist, Miss Construction, Grendel, Covenant, and many more! The video element to the show is making the talking portions of the show that much more interesting. This week, Lyra gets real classy and talks about her “fuck stick”. She pushes a lot of buttons in this episode as she adds a lot of custom beats on top of tracks to mix it up. Beyond that, we will all miss The Sanitarium. Warlock JNothing will still be around doing The Metro and other projects. It was an honor, privilege, and a blast to put this together for him and everyone out there. Thanks for listening/watching! If you haven’t watched yet, click the YouTube link below and leave a comment! You can also subscribe to DJ Lyra Shae’s YouTube page here. This week, DJ Lyra Shae brings back themes to bring you the theme of Heresy! A spiritual (for lack of a better word) successor to her very first episode: Leviathan Rising. This episode is all about heretical songs and features Gary Numan, Velvet Acid Christ, Centhron, Front Boundary, God Module, and many others! We are pleased to announce that Dark Whispers has gone to a video format as well so that you can now watch the episodes as well as listen to them. We hope you enjoy them as it takes a lot of extra work on DJ Lyra’s end putting the video together. Enjoy and let us know what you think! Side note: DJ Lyra is aware is fucked up and said “Dark Voices” instead of “Dark Whispers at the beginning. Please don’t comment to her or e-mail her about it.
This episode DJ Lyra has edited the intro to be a little shorter, a little sexier, and a little better for everyone. This episode features Suicide Commando, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Grendel, Amduscia, Diary of Dreams and many others! DJ Lyra also gets into a spiel about the the 1991 cult film Nothing But Trouble feat. Dan Aykroyd. She mistakenly calls it an 80s film and then bitches about how horrible it is. All of this because one of the songs featured in this week’s episode makes her reminisce about watching this dreadful movie.
This episode of Dark Whispers has got rhythm (you’ll hear what Lyra means when you hear the episode) and features Unter Null, :Wumpscut:, VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, and much more! DJ Lyra has also changed up the background music with her own original composition. The track title is called “The Sickness” and it was put out under the moniker “Of Mice and Mixers” with help from her friend Jeff K. Let her know what you think of her composition and the new background music! Reach out to her on Facebook or twitter.
This week on Dark Whispers, we focus primarily on the bands Diary of Dreams and Hocico. These are two high profile darkwave and industrial bands that Lyra hasn’t featured yet on the show, so, she is dedicating most of the program to tracks by the two artists. DJ Lyra also features tracks by Switchblade Symphony and Suicide Commando as well as deep discussion on themes and lyrical content. Enjoy!
This week marks the end of themes, but not the end of great music! We’ve got Grendel, Eden Synthetic Corps, and much much more! This week we’re cookin’ up a whole batch of strange so strap in and enjoy.
This week’s theme is songs all centered around sin. Sorry for the delay in bringing you this week’s episode. There are a lot of catchy tunes on this week’s show as well as some strange ones. Enjoy!
DJ Lyra Shae is back! And with vigor! Recording live from her closet, it took her years to come out of the closet and now she’s forced to go back in just to bring you the best in audio listening pleasure. This week on Dark Whispers, I have an all covers episode for you. Don’t worry, it won’t be boring. There are some funky tunes in there to keep you entertained as well as some rarities and a few surprises DJ Lyra style. Enjoy!
Trigger Warning: this episode is a suicide note. I’ve had this episode shelved for some time. I didn’t think I would ever put it out. It was originally intended to be a goodbye episode should I ever succeed in killing myself. I’ve decided to put it out anyway because I enjoy the music so much and it has such a deep personal meaning to me. So, if you’re uncomfortable with the content or don’t like depressing music, skip this episode; I’ll have a regular episode out next week. This is by far the darkest episode of DW I’ve ever done. If you’re feeling suicidal or like a risk to yourself or others, please call the suicide hotline (1-800-273-8255), 911, or seek help at mental health facility or ER. What bipolar depression looks like: And the damage it can do:
My apocalypse episode! Each set tells another chunk of the story. Enjoy! Send feedback to @djlyrashae or leave a comment on my Facebook or the show page.
DJ Lyra Shae compiles a lovely, dance-y list of love songs then ruins it by playing some of the raunchiest EBM and industrial out there. She also talks briefly about the launch of her new podcast project Dark Voices, her equipment upgrades, and gripes about her heating fan.
This week’s show is focused on spotlighting German artists and songs. There are so many German artists in this genre, the point of this episode is to demonstrate that good music can transcend language barriers. Also, because it’s the holidays and a lot of you are performing/performed solstice Rituals, there are a couple of German Satanic self-empowerment songs as well. Happy Solstice and Yule from Dark Whispers! One last thing, 2016 will bring about the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Church of Satan, so there is also a message directed at those considering affiliation referencing Magus Gilmore’s post on the Church’s blog. If you have any requests for the show or questions about any of the bands/songs you hear on the show, get at me: @djlyrashae on twitter or on my Facebook page. Enjoy!
Satanist Lyra is back and recovered from plague! She is sorry she missed last week, folks. There is something going around, and Lyra had the misfortune of catching it. This episode DJ Lyra is spotlighting all female industrial artists. Enjoy the likes of Unter Null, I: Scintilla, Ayria, 00tz 00tz, and many more. There are very few female industrial artists out there, so Lyra wanted to highlight some of her favs.
