A complete show to honor the memory of the late-great Dickey Betts. Forrest Richard Betts (December 12, 1943 – April 18, 2024) was an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer and founding member of The Allman Brothers Band. Early in his career, he collaborated with Duane Allman, introducing melodic twin guitar harmony and counterpoint which "rewrote the rules for how two rock guitarists can work together, completely scrapping the traditional rhythm/lead roles to stand toe to toe". Following Allman's death in 1971, Betts assumed sole lead guitar duties during the peak of the group's commercial success in the mid-1970s. Betts was the writer and singer on the Allmans' hit single "Ramblin' Man". He also gained renown for composing instrumentals, with one appearing on most of the group's albums, including "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Jessica".

The mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, welcomed this year's Labor Notes Conference, the mayor having been a union activist himself. Delegates watched returns from the union organizing vote in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where VW workers voted 73% to join UAW. That's in Tennessee, one of the southern states that tries to block unions. And Shawn Fain came to the Notes conference with a militant message: organize as the working class, fight for a shorter work week, coordinate strike dates so that all contracts end on May Day, and American workers join in solidarity with rest of the world's workers Shawn Fain is calling on other unions, in the US and internationally, to set their contract expiry dates for May Day 2028.

Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh speaks about Israel's lethal goals and plans.
At a time when we are witnessing an Israeli-perpetrated genocide, and the International community fiddles while Gaza literally burns, we need to examine how this came to happen. What led to the horror we are witnessing in Palestine today? When you ask that question, the Israeli response is that the Hamas raid on Israel and the taking of hostages on October 7th is the cause for Israel's massive retaliation. But the facts go much deeper. Today we turn to the eminent Israeli historian, Ilan Pappé, to put this horror in perspective. The presentation you will hear was delivered at the University of California in Berkeley last Fall, shortly after the October 7th event, and is edited to meet time restrictions.

Via Skype from Palestine as Israel denied him travel documents to attend the event. Omar Bargouhti reminds us of the larger meaning of the liberation struggle to be found in the Passover story and remembered in the celebration of Yom Kippor that Jewish Zionist have worked to erase. Muslims, Christians and Jews once lived in symbiotic association prior to the arrival of the European Zionists whose intention from the first was settler colonialism, supremacist nationalism and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian non Zionist population. Along with Palestinian land, history and culture it was necessary for Zionists to steal Jewish identity, to conflate it with the Judaisms anathema, to infuse their project with a legitimacy it id not deserve.
