Eric Kirk and David Frank discuss the politics of the day.
This week’s archive radio show goes around and comes around as we take pictures of history and as we tell the dirty secrets of Afghanistan. In Part 2 we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and for the feature piece we point out how the elites are coopting a lot of ‘green’ organizations and NGO’s. Perfidy mixed with iconoclasm. It’s the Thunderbolt!
Sonic Café, Dysfunctional, that’s Demolition 23. So ahh welcome to our mildly dysfunctional radio café, I'm Scott Clark and this is episode 385. This time the Sonic Café asks the question, is the glass half full, or half empty? Sometimes it can be both. Comedian Brian McKim is here to explain. Our eclectic music mix is pulled from 52 years and includes, none of us are free, a great Ray Charles & Eric Clapton collaboration. Also Radiohead, Oasis, Sly & The Family Stone, The Woggles, The Mother Truckers and more, including the Sonic Café’s first ever Two-for-Two feature, it’s a new thing we really like, this time we’ll spin The Animals original 1965 classic We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place, followed by a 2012 cover from the Romantics. Cool stuff! And finally, like everyone, we’ve embraced Artificial Intelligence here at the café. What could possibly go wrong, right? Well nothing, because we’ve got Starship Captain James T. Kirk on our side, he possesses the reasoning ability to force any AI to destroy itself. So yeah we’re boldly going into the future. So ahh let’s Take It Away, here’s Paul McCartney and we’re the Sonic Café.
In this edition we discuss the “No Match” rule established by the Bush administration on August 10th, 2007. If a person is employed and the employer sends in the employment payment records with a social security number that doesn’t match the name on the social security number according to the Social Security Administration, A “No Match” letter will be sent to the employer that says “fix it.” To discuss this problem and the possible effects it has in California, we visited with Attorney Carl Borden, an associate counsel for the California Farm Bureau Federation, in his offices in Sacramento, California on August 20th, 2007. The book recommended by Carl Borden is “Overcoming The Fear (of Death)” by David Cole Gordon
This episode features Father John Dear, an American Catholic priest, peace activist, lecturer, and author of 35 books on peace and nonviolence. He has spoken on peace around the world, organized hundreds of demonstrations against war, injustice and nuclear weapons, and been arrested 85 times in acts of nonviolent civil disobedience against war, injustice, poverty, nuclear weapons and environmental destruction. He has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize. Father John Dear spoke in Binghamton, NY on April 4th, 2024.
This week, we are now focused on what happens next now that Iran has drawn a line in the sand no longer tolerating further offences against their citizenry like the APRIL 1ST ATTACK on their embassy in Damascus, and speaking to two expert guests who relay what they understand about what happened last weekend and what it potentially means for the region and for all humanity . In our first half hour we have journalist, lawyer and activist Dimitri Lascaris talking about the legal logistics of the various players of the war and about his most recent trip to the area. In our second half hour, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson offers his critique of the Iran attack, the consequences of an israeli counter-retaliation and the prosepcts of the US intervening militarily on the Israeli side. Finally, he hear from groups across Canada about what they plan to do this weekend in their attempts to confine the authority of the Israeli bull in a china shop.

We share one on this week's show. The best in contemporary Celtic music for over 20 years, it's Celt In A Twist with Patricia Fraser!
Putumayo continues to make world music accessible to the globally-curious. We sample two of their latest compilations off the top. Talk about global music projects; Vancouver's Los Furios have just released Old Ghosts recorded in different venues, studios, kitchens and hemispheres between Canada and New Zealand. We bring a debut. And, Elisapie from Nunavik in Northern Quebec recalls the radio hits that affected her on her new album of covers, Inuktitut. It's hard to beat World Beat Canada!
Every April, various Western countries bring charges against some member of the Rwandan diaspora. They do this in solidarity with Paul Kagame's regime in Rwanda. Because April 6-7 was the moment Kagame's RPF went on the attack and pursued a war of conquest and enjoyed unanimous support of the NATO gang, the "cruelest month", as T.S. Eliot described it, Rwanda's allies arrest someone to intimidate others of the diaspora. This year a man in Ohio and another in Belgium. They will not receive the presumption of innocence, because the process is largely symbolic and the media is relied upon to put "genocide" in all their headlines. Tony Leah, Unifor member and labour historian. The United Autoworkers continue to show what can be accomplished with class-conscious leadership. Their next ambitious goal, after humbling the Big Three, is to organize autoworkers in states that are very anti-union. The effort will be "old school", the UAW will turn to rank-and-file workers to devise and carry out the drive. ALSO Tony L. points out Electric Vehicles are here to stay and North American automakers seem inept, and maybe unwilling. to face the fact. Ford is pushing back the start at its Oakville plant. Meanwhile China is advancing its EV production by leaps and bounds. Closing commentary of Phil Taylor: Israel attacked the Iranian embassy in Damascus and the US/Canada/UK looked on and said nothing. In Ecuador the army entered the Mexican embassy and kidnapped an Ecuadorean political leader seeking asylum. Again, the great white north looked away. Western hypocrites, sewing the wind oblivious and arrogant, they will reap the whirlwind.

When it comes to energy transitions, marine vessels tend to get overlooked, even though they are some of the worst polluters of our oceans and air. The heavy duty diesel fuel used by most ships presents serious problems for the planet. This week on Sea Change Radio, we speak with Maria Gallucci, a Senior Reporter at Canary Media, who describes efforts being made to transform boats and ships into zero emission marine fleets. We look at a project to electrify tugboats in San Diego, a cutting-edge hydrogen ferry about to launch in San Francisco, and innovations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the international cargo shipping space.
