We talk about platforms so often these days that it appears protocols don't exist. But they do, and they power large chunks of the internet. Email, blogging, and podcasting are perhaps the last vestiges of the open web publishing. So I try to make a case against the much-talked-about YouTube for podcasts. The stated purpose of a lot of writers who deal with mythology as subject matter these days is to make the younger generation aware of India’s rich culture and heritage by telling stories which have remained untold. But I can’t help feeling sometimes that not enough attention is being paid to the shape of future India. What will these young people grow up to become? What kind of adults will they turn out to be? What manner of India will they build? Is it going to be more of the same — an India powered by outrage and offence, crying out three times a day demanding to be treated like children by the authorities? Or can it be something different?Theme Music: Werq, by Kevin MacLeod Get on the email list at vimoh.substack.com
Let's talk about privilege

Let's talk about privilege

2019-02-2300:10:36

Nobody wants to admit that they had help getting where they are right now. In their heads, everyone is a hero who did it all by themselves. And this is why people hate it when their privilege is pointed out to them. Get on the email list at vimoh.substack.com
Don't be your own boss

Don't be your own boss

Being your own boss probably isn't what you think it is. So I clarify a key thing you need to keep in mind before taking the plunge into self-employment. Get on the email list at vimoh.substack.com
There is this pretentious streak running through many artists and writers that I feel is counter-productive. It involves them not taking responsibility for their own success and blaming the market instead. A rant. Get on the email list at vimoh.substack.com

A lot of cultural infrastructure that goes into the making of human civilisation is fictional in nature. For example, there is literally no difference between talking animal characters in children’s stories, aliens in adult science fiction, and the gods of mythology. They all come from the same source — human imagination in service of the human survival instinct. They all came into being because we need to understand.Today’s audio is about that. That and Duck Tales of course. Get on the email list at vimoh.substack.com
The Juggler's Joy

The Juggler's Joy

This is a story about the importance of making mistakes and how trying to avoid making mistakes is a sure way to drive joy out of your life.**Music:** Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Get on the email list at vimoh.substack.com
The Vaanar Who Flew (Hindi)

The Vaanar Who Flew (Hindi)

I have a problem with depictions of Hanuman where he is little more than an angry, brooding, musclebound hero. He has always meant something more to me -- someone brave enough to doubt himself. Valmiki Ramayan makes several mentions of Hanuman's fears. So I wrote a story about self belief and put Hanuman in it. This story is a personal favourite. Also, this is the first episode I have made with sound effects in it. I hope I didn't go overboard. Let me know! Also, this is the first episode to have patrons listed in the credits at the end. Do listen till the end.---**Music:** White Lotus Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License [http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/)**Sound Effects:** [https://freesound.org/](https://freesound.org/) Get on the email list at vimoh.substack.com
The City God

The City God

2019-01-2300:06:18

When you think about it, omnipotence is a somewhat silly idea. We assign it to our gods unthinkingly, never stopping to wonder what we are burdening them with. So I wrote a story to put myself in a god's shoes. Get on the email list at vimoh.substack.com
