Sixteen years after the death of Marcus Aurelius, his dream of Roma has died. Twin Emperors Geta and Caracalla have brought nothing but cruelty to the empire. Lucius Verus Aurelius—the grandson of the former emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of Maximus and Lucilla— who was exiled by Roman as a child by his mother for his safety, becomes a gladiator after his home is invaded by the Roman army led by General Acacius. Lucius seeks revenge against Acacius and fights as a gladiator for Macrinus, a former slave who plans to overthrow the emperors Geta and Caracalla.
